In part of the Jan. 6th committee report released last night:

Now look, I don't like Maggie Haberman and I have my doubts about her journalistic ethics.

However.

When politicians say a reporter is "friendly," it doesn't always mean what it sounds like. (I know, I know - it's Maggie Haberman.)

But I remember one township solicitor acting hurt after one of my stories about him appeared. "I can't believe you wrote about that. I thought we were friends," he whined.

"Why? Because I listen to your jokes? I was standing in front of you, taking notes while you were talking. What did you think I was doing?"

As a reporter, I was at least friendly to the people I covered, however despicable. You kind of have to! Why would they talk to you otherwise?

I'm not saying Maggie Haberman isn't a sellout or a hack. I don't like her, and her judgment is, at the very least, questionable at times.

I'm saying this excerpt isn't the slam dunk people want it to be. It doesn't really prove anything, other than the fact that people felt she treated them fairly.
