The Republican Party's official Twitter account unleashed a tweet to honor Independence Day using the flag of a different country instead of the American flag. This seems on brand for the party that idolizes Vladimir Putin and has a kink for authoritarianism. Instead of the American flag, the GOP used the flag of Liberia.
"247 years ago, our forefathers told Ol' King George to get lost!" the now-deleted tweet read. "Happy Independence Day from the GOP!
There are no takey backsies, Republicans. But still, they tried with a follow-up tweet after removing their inadvertent tribute to Liberia.
"Thank you to all the men and women in uniform who continue to defend our freedom at home and abroad," the tweet reads. "Happy Independence Day!"
