Warren’s demand no doubt arose from news that Elon Musk’s SpaceX refused Ukraine’s request to activate its Starlink technology far enough to assist Ukraine attack Russian ships in Crimea.
Musk claims he turned down the request because it would make his company “explicitly complicit in a major act of war and conflict escalation.” But this is not the first time congenital liar Musk has stuck his nose into the conflict and quacked like a Russian agent.
It’s beyond depressing that far-right nut job Musk would play any role in our foreign policy merely because he’s a bazillionaire. But at least Warren is taking the right first steps.
From Bloomberg:
“The Congress needs to investigate what’s happened here and whether we have adequate tools to make sure foreign policy is conducted by the government and not by one billionaire,” the Massachusetts Democrat said Monday at the Capitol.
…
Warren, a member of the Armed Services Committee, said she also wants the Defense Department to look into its contractual relationship with [Musk’s] company.
Armed Services Chairman Jack Reed, a Rhode Island Democrat, also said he was concerned about the issue, given that governments traditionally have controlled satellites and presidents decided what to do with them.
As for the a-hole otherwise known as Musk, even his defense of his so-called patriotism was petulant and – well, anti-American. More from Bloomberg:
Musk later expressed his support for the US: “I am a citizen of the United States and have only that passport. No matter what happens, I will fight for and die in America. The United States Congress has not declared war on Russia. If anyone is treasonous, it is those who call me such.”
I could not be happier that Warren is on the case.
