Kevin Morris, Hunter Biden’s lawyer and lender, is demanding that the full transcript of his closed-door testimony be released after Comer used “cherry‐picked, out of context and totally misleading descriptions” of Morris’ testimony in public statements.
Republicans are suggesting Morris’ 2019 multimillion-dollar loan to Hunter Biden was not really a loan but a gift. But even with his spin, Comer could not say this was any kind of evidence of Joe Biden wrongdoing:
These ‘loans’ don’t have to be repaid until after the next presidential election and the ‘loans’ may ultimately be forgiven. Since Kevin Morris has kept President Biden’s son financially afloat, he’s had access to the Biden White House and has spoken to President Biden.
...
Kevin Morris obtained access to Biden White House after “lending” money to Hunter Biden. Despite donating $500,000 to $700,000 to Democrats, the only time Kevin Morris went to the White House occurred during the Biden Administration. Hunter Biden gave him a tour of the White House, attended a wedding at the White House, and went to the White House’s Fourth of July picnic.
Yeah, so what? Unless you are dumb enough to believe Morris engaged in substantive policy discussions with the president during a wedding or Fourth of July picnic, the whole thing has next to nothing to do with Joe Biden.
Meanwhile, Morris says his testimony was distorted by Comer and he wants the record corrected - stat.
“Here’s what they do: They bring up something totally innocuous and legal, get nowhere with it, and they run to the cameras and make spooky noises. What they do has an elementary school quality to it” Morris said in a statement shared first with CNN following Comer’s framing of the interview.
Morris’ attorney followed up with a letter to Comer, describing Morris’ treatment as “the farthest thing from ‘fair’ as you can get.
When we started today’s interview of my client Mr. Kevin Morris, I specifically pointed out the practice of Republicans in making partial leaks of witness’ statements rather than releasing the actual transcript so the public would know the truth and not your often inaccurate spin and misstatements. I specifically asked that this not to be done with Mr. Morris’ transcript and, if such were done, that the entire transcript be released. Your staff as well as the staff of other committees responded that Mr. Morris would be treated fairly. And, then you did not treat Mr. Morris fairly and engaged in your standard practice of partially and inaccurately leaking a witness’s statements. Not two hours after we left Mr. Morris’ transcribed interview, you issued a press statement with cherry‐picked, out of context and totally misleading descriptions of what Mr. Morris said. So much for the promise of your staff that Mr. Morris would be treated fairly. So, as I said at the interview, I demand you now release the entire transcript of Mr. Morris’ interview.
Morris' attorney cited nine examples of what he called Comer’s “false, inaccurate, and misleading” statements.
CNN noted that despite Comer’s repeated promises to be transparent and to release the transcripts of witness interviews, his panel has so far only released two transcripts of the eight interviews conducted in its Biden investigation.
I think we all know that if Comer had found anything truly incriminating about President Biden, the transcript(s) would have been published ASAP.
