Fetterman Drops Significant Freudian Slip

Senator John Fetterman took questions from the audience at the Texas Tribune Festival when someone asked why he didn't just register as an Independent.

Without hesitation, Fetterman blurted out, "Because I’m a lifelong Republican."

Major Garrett, the CBS News chief Washington correspondent hosting the event, had to remind Fetterman that he is supposed to be a Democrat.

They both laughed about the gaffe and pointed out that it would make the rounds on the internet.

The thing is that Fetterman spent an earlier part of the event trying to convince people that he's still really a Democrat. And this wasn't the first time he's done that.

Here's a pro tip for you, Senator: If you have to spend most of your time arguing that you really are a Democrat, you probably aren't one. The truth will set you free. And if you're worried that there's no path for you to get reelected as a Republican or an Independent, I wouldn't bet any money on you doing it as a Democrat either.
