George Bush Is Secretly Painting 'Ugly' Portraits Of Donald Trump As 'Art Therapy'

If there's one thing you can guarantee George W. Bush is not gonna do, it's publicly speaking out with any genuine conviction about pretty much anything -- including the current president, who is ripping the very fabric of this nation to smithereens right in front of our eyes.

But don't worry, George is coping in his own way.

Former Slate editor and CEO-turned-author Jacob Weisberg once compiled a set of bestselling "Bushisms" books that poked fun at the 43rd president's incessant history of verbal gaffes. Now, it seems Weisberg is taking aim at ole George once again, in his latest book, "Profiles in Cowardice: A Study of Collaboration in the Trump Era," in which he takes the former president to task for continuing to enable Donald J. Trump and his destruction of America-- not through his actions, but his blatant inaction.

In a new interview to promote his book with The Intelligencer's Michael Calderone, Weisberg didn't pull any punches for the 43rd president, noting that "There's sins of commission and sins of omission" and George W. Bush falls firmly into the second category, as he has stood by and idly watched as President Trump "dismantled USAID," the agency that helped to operate PEPFAR, the very same global HIV/AIDS program that Bush himself brought to life.

Yet publicly, Bush has remained as silent and docile as a field mouse, opting instead to vent his frustration through "art therapy," painting a "really ugly" portrait of the 45th/47th president that he "won't show to anybody."

"He's expressing all of his feelings through painting, this kind of art therapy," Weisberg explained. "He's trying to talk about politics and express his feelings without stating them explicitly."

The author went on to admonish the former war president for using his past presidency as cover for his refusal to speak out publicly against the current president.

"Bush is hiding behind, I think, a shibboleth which is that presidents have to completely remove themselves from ever commenting," Weisberg said, going on to pointedly note that multiple other past presidents have used their voices and platforms to speak out when they felt it was important to the safety and well-being of this nation.

"Bush could have done that, and he should have done that, but he won't say Trump's name."

While the thought of an ugly portrait of Donald Trump hanging out somewhere in George Bush's home is certainly entertaining for me, Weisberg is painfully correct in that the 43rd president's "art therapy" does absolutely nothing to help pull this country out of the pits of hell Donald Trump has pulled us into.

I understand and acknowledge that Bush hails from a different time, when politics were handled with an air of respect for your successors and predecessors, no matter how much you disagreed with their policies. But those days are long gone and have been for a while.

There is no more "middle ground," George.
