During Trump's midterm conference, U.S. Interior Sec. Doug Burgum defended the skyrocketing gas prices under Trump's leadership and the war with Iran by saying they could be worse.
Not that they couldn't. When Trump took office from Biden, the national average gas price was $3.08 per gallon.
Today's cost is $4.30 per gallon, which is 38.55% higher.
Newsmax host Carl Higbie was perturbed that high gas prices were on the ballot for the 2026 midterms. Why should Americans care about their fuel costs, right?
"They always say, they always say, though, that gas prices are always on the ballot," Higbie proclaimed.
"Well, they sure are," Burgum admitted. "But thank goodness, with President Trump 20 months ago taking office and turning the American direction on energy 180 degrees in the opposite direction."
After listing off meaningless jargon, Burgum finished his remarks by praising Sleepy Don.
BURGUM: And here we are, as you just said, in a lead in number one oil and gas producer in the world right now.
Those are things that are all helping keep energy prices down in America, both for electricity and at the pump.
Without President Trump, our prices would be much, much higher than they are today.
In Burgum's view, America should be celebrating Trump for raising the price of gasoline by almost 40%.
Gotcha, that's surely a winning argument for November.
