Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton got an unwanted earful as he tried to rally a Fort Worth crowd of what he thought were Paxton voters on Saturday. Paxton urged the attendees to talk to their friends and family and “tell them the difference between the parties and the difference between me and James Talarico.”
“Paxton, you take bribes!” a member of the audience shouted.
Paxton either didn’t hear or ignored it.
That is indeed a key difference between Paxton and Talarico. In 2020, a group of conservative attorneys from his own staff reported him to the FBI, alleging bribery and misuse of office. Paxton was subsequently impeached by the Texas House, although acquitted in the Senate. The FBI investigation was quietly dropped during the final weeks of the Biden presidency.
But that is only one of many, many criminal and corruption scandals on Paxton’s disgraceful record. I don’t know of any on Talarico’s.
Fortunately, Texans seem to have had enough of Corrupt Kenny. Talarico leads in most polls, though all are within the margin of error. That said, the enthusiasm and momentum are clearly on Talarico’s side.
Paxton just canceled three stops on his bus tour just days before the election, The Daily Beast reported. At one stop that did occur this week, a Texas Republican begged the crowd not to leave. Talarico, on the other hand, packed the room in ruby red Lubbock.
Campaign desperation may be why the Paxton heckler got into the Fort Worth rally. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that a busload of supporters from rural counties were bused in to attend the Fort Worth rally. Even so, only dozens attended, Aaron Rupar reported.
Fingers crossed!
