The 2008 Weblog Awards

I have the honor of writing this post for John Amato, who is taking a well-deserved break this week. Crooks and Liars has been nominated as "Best Liberal Blog" for the 2008 Weblog Awards. Online voting begins January 5.

Crooks & Liars is honored to be in the company below; this year brings an amazing list of nominees, including two bloggers in the C&L stable:

Hullabaloo

Think Progress

Sadly, No!

Brad Blog

Blue Gal (oops, is that a typo?)

Orcinus (C&L's David Neiwert's blog)

Truthdig

Wonkette

Taylor Marsh

Shakesville

The Confluence

Glenn Greenwald's Unclaimed Territory

Talking Points Memo

Yep, not only is this blog nominated, but Amato hires quality too, ha. [Frequent C&L contributor Driftglass has also been nominated, for best individual blogger.] Amato reminds his staff at various awards times that for him, blogging is never about hits, awards, or accolades. It's about making a difference and creating a community and dialogue with a lot of really amazing people. That said, it takes a large group of very dedicated people to put this blog together every day, and we're grateful for the nod.

Given that this award ceremony has only a virtual red carpet, I hereby exchange air kisses with Amato, David, and the rest of the nominees, as all of us sing the "it's an amazing honor to be nominated" refrain...
