Goldie & The Gingerbreads - wildly popular in England.

Goldie & The Gingerbreads were something of an anomaly in the male dominated rock music world of the early 60's. They started out in 1962 and were the first female rock group to be signed to a major label (Decca) in 1963 and then to Atlantic in 1964. Goldie "Genya" Zelkowitz (who later changed her name to the more accessible Genya Ravan) fronted the band, and for the next five years (1962-1967) enjoyed huge success but primarily in Europe where they toured with most of the British Invasion acts from 1964 on. In the U.S. they toured but their popularity was mostly by way of their uniqueness.

Tonight's track, Walking In Different Circles was issued as a single in 1967 and their last for Atlantic. They would dissolve in 1968 but Goldie came back, reincarnated as Genya Ravan with a new band Ten Wheel Drive - but that's a story for the 70's.
