Chad & Jeremy - shaking the teen-idol image once and for all.

Chad & Jeremy were one of the most popular duos during the British invasion period of 1964. They had a string of hits starting with the memorable Summer Song and continuing on until they just had enough of that image and branched out. In 1967 they released the groundbreaking Of Cabbages And Kings which, even though it was taken seriously by the press and well received, didn't fare all that well in sales. They were respectable, but not on the order of the massive sales during their teen idol period.

So their next album, The Ark was even more of a departure with much more in the way of political underpinnings and songs of protest. It came out in August of 1968, right during the time of great turmoil throughout the world and was perfectly timed. But by then, Chad & Jeremy called it quits for the time being and The Ark became something of a forgotten classic.

Tonight's track, Transatlantic Trauma 1966 comes from The Ark and it's a big departure from the days of Summer Song, if you're memory of them is solely based on that period.

In case you forgot just how good they were in 1968, here they are to remind you.
