Radio Host Conflates Marijuana Decriminalization And Missouri Gun 'Nullification'

Local St. Louis radio host Charles Brennan defends the TeaBirchers in Missouri and their gun-nullification bill by comparing it to attempts to decriminalize marijuana across the country.

Missouri Gun 'Nullification' Law A '90s Militia Fantasy Come True.

I don't know if the Republicans have enough votes to override a veto, but even if they do, Missouri AG Kris Koster has said he doesn't want any part in either enforcing or defending the law. He knows it's not going to hold up in court.

What was really pathetic about Brennan's attempt to at least make the law not sound quite as insane as it is by comparing it to marijuana laws being passed in other states, is even he had to admit that it would be just that -- insane to be arresting federal agents, FBI or DEA for enforcing federal law.

As the other guests pointed out, it's not the same because the laws he's trying to compare this to don't have states going out there and arresting federal agents, and you had the voters weigh in and support the laws in those other states.

One other really good point that was made during this segment as well is that these legislators who are voting for this stuff know full well it's not going to hold up in court, so they're only doing it for the very cynical reason of trying to drum up support with their crazy, right-wing base.

I'm pretty sure Brennan didn't come up with this on his own, because there are other op-eds out there attempting to make the exact same points, like this one. If the talking point has made its way to the op-ed pages and the local C-listers like Brennan, I'm sure you'll see it on Uncle Rupert's Faux "news" any day now, especially if the wingnuts in Missouri decide to override the veto and they want to defend them for doing so.
