Question: What is
A) universally recognized as an unlucky number;
B) the title of a movie starring Holly Hunter and Evan Rachel Wood
C) Vice President Dick Cheney's approval rating
D) all of the above.

Who the heck are these 13% that approve of him?
And what are they on?
What we need is a long speech by Dick Cheney. He can tell us all kinds of political, philosophical, and, moral aspects of today's international geopolitical world environment. Dick can express his personal views on current domestic issues, the environment, the price of gas, healthcare, the poor, drug abuse, Paris Hilton, whatever he wants.
Then, Michael Moore gets equal time for rebuttal, maybe with Sanjay Gupta’s neck in a noose, (a friendly noose for the this site manager), as a decorative backdrop.
That I would buy a ticket too.
*chuckles* And I'm sure it's keeping him up at night.
That's GOT to be a record. Someone call Guinness.
We're almost to a record. Just a few more points to go.
Hey He's the most powerful man in the free world with loadsa bunkers.
Do you think he gives two shits whether he's popular or not?
"Popularity!?! POPULARITY!!?!! I don't need no steenking POPULARITY!!!!"
e) George W. Bush's IQ
f) George W. Bush's average blood-alcohol content (until 1988)
g) Number of times Alberto Gonzales probably lied under oath to Congress
Thats actually not his approval rating, but instead his "favorability rating" per your source.
Just a small note.

I noticed that as well, but, hey, give it time?
Three posts. Working late ftl.
you mean everybody's dad doesn't approve of cheney and bush?
He's my favorite gun-toten Bastard!
ChickenMan @ 1:
They're on FOX News.
How could Quayle be less or as low as Cheney? Cheney lied the nation into war resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children, running up our deficit and running our military into the ground. Dan Quayle misspelled potato.
Angry One @ 7:
13²=169. By AT LEAST A FACTOR OF 2
Angry One @ 7:
h) Number of times Cheney crawled out of his spider hole to tell Patrick Leahy to go fuck himself.
i) Number of times Bush says "terrorist" in his radio address
j) Number of times Bush says "Al-Queda" in his radio address
k) Number of times Cheney missed the small pen raised quail before shooting his friend in the face.
l) Number of times his friend apologized for being shot in the face by Cheney.
Ruthless People @ 12:
The real issue with Quayle is that he tried to tell the kid how to spell potato and he was wrong. It's no wonder his approval rating was so low. Think of the children.

So, just how did Dick's lesbian daughter get pregnant anyway?
Why has this not been investigated?
Salmineo @ 17:
It wasn't by dick!
where's Jon Stewart when you need him?
Salmineo @ 17:
Dick might have something to do with it. When you are a dick your a real dick.
Well, I was rather worried that there might be a sexually active toilet seat out there somewhere.
This could be a public safety issue.
BaScOmBe @ 19:
I tell you, it looks like he's on reruns. Must be on vacation. He's missing a whole bunch of good material these past week and a half.
Angry One @ 7:
h) preferred age of Rep. Mark Foley's congressional pages
i) number of beers Cheney drank before shooting his huntin' buddy in the face and hiding from the cops overnight to sober up
j) number of weeks of vacation time George W. Bush took between January 20, 2001 and September 11, 2001
That last one is no joke. Of the 233 days from his inauguration to 9/11, Bush took 96 days of vacation (54 days at his ranch, 38 at Camp David, 4 at Kennebunkport). That's 13.7 weeks. He kept up this routine even after 9/11. In the 2 1/2 years after the attack, Bush spent 500 days - that's 40% of his time - at one of his retreats.

I'm hoping open thread means what i think it means. If it doesn't, oh well. To hell with ettiquatte. Please help. Action Alert: Help save one woman's life
How old are you guys? I read somewhere sometime today when I was bored at work that progressive blog audiences are from the baby boomer era.
I am 24.
I'm suspicious. Are we sure this isn't the TOTAL NUMBER of people who approve of him? I could probably name all thirteen.
Um, this post is lifted verbatim from Phillip Anderson at The Albany Project.
A hat-tip, at the very least, would be appropriate.
Hmmm, so Michael Chertoff has a "gut feeling" that there will be a terrorist attack here this summer.
send those 13% to help Betrayus with his surge :)
I just wonder which terrorists it will be that attacks us, Al Qaeda or the ones who live in DC?
As this is an open thread, I wanted to show this.
Saw this today on CNN, Michael Ware (who is in Iraq) reacting to Sen. Lieberman stating that we are winning in Iraq.
Enjoy!
Oh we would be surprised at the number of morons who still support little king pissy pants.
I there any hope for justice? Can the Bushies go to jail after they leave office for offences they have commited during their destruction of the US constitution?
Is there any hope that congress will call a constitutional convention and remove the ability of one small band of terrorists to take over the entire free world?
We don't need to leave the loopholes that George has used to destroy this nation
for the next stupid SOB to re-use. WE NEED to clean up our Constitution:
a) remove all justice department functions from the presidents control.
Just look at the yahoos that want the job next, do you want any of them
to repeat what George got away with and give us more of the same?
(we wouldn't need any more special prosecutors)
b) remove all presidential control of appointements to the judiciary.
(there has to be a more "judicial" approach to selecting these keepers of our sanity.)
c) make executive privilege a thing of the past. You take our oath, you owe congress an explination for any and ever thing you do or don't do. No exceptions.
(oh, and not telling the truth under oath has real consequences, and they are quickly delivered, like real jail time, loss of position, dis-barment etc.).
d) define, in very clear terms, what the phrase "Uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States" means, as well as the consequences for not achieving that promis.
Make lobbies illegal. Maybe we should just move right to a direct democracy, oh yea, those are the same fine people that voted George in in the first place, all is lost!
I think Chertoff meant today, 6/11/07.
Just a gut feeling.
Mommy, can we impeach them yet?
Dr. Carmona said he was ordered to mention President Bush three times on every page of his speeches. He also said he was asked to make speeches to support Republican political candidates and to attend political briefings.
And administration officials even discouraged him from attending the Special Olympics because, he said, of that charitable organization’s longtime ties to a “prominent family” that he refused to name.
“I was specifically told by a senior person, ‘Why would you want to help those people?’ ” Dr. Carmona said.
The Special Olympics is one of the nation’s premier charitable organizations to benefit disabled people, and the Kennedys have long been deeply involved in it.

Ron @ 39:
I have tried more than once to engage the right wingers. I did so in the most polite way possible, avoiding all personal attacks. I tried to avoid confrontation and just stick to the facts and reason. They just aren't reachable. They don't want to break from their perfect little fantasy world. They have their knee-jerk reactions to everything and they are happy with that. They like using nothing more than their brain stem for all decision making. As has been said by others, learning is painful, for some far more so than others. That said, I wouldn't bother trying to engage them as it is a hopeless endeavor. But by all means try if you like. But be prepared for a deluge of personal insults and then being criticized for doing that very thing when you've done nothing of the sort.
The average right winger has their whole identity wrapped up in their political beliefs. It's like trying to convince a devout believer in some faith that they're following the wrong religion.

Regarding baby boomers... I'd find that interesting considering baby boomers are making up the uptight members of society. Well-off baby boomers need to be stayed away from... Others, well...
They're adding a second shoulder of power to the growing generation of people like me (I'm 25) who are making up the working world and dominating the trends of business. These products of the 80s have very little except direct ideological poisoning in their upbringing leading them in the direction of the right. Add to that the growing concerns about health care and general lifetime material security (young or old, the Democrats seem to at least notice these issues to most anyone), and I have a lot of confidence in the broadening range of left-leaning (admittedly or otherwise) people.
Though it'd be my guess anyone from 18 to 60 would be here...
And on another note (since it's an open thread), I was just thinking today how nice it is that the President gave America the gift of a brand new generation of homeless. This isn't meant to be callous, but it's been a good 34 or whatever years since we put Vietnam behind us and watched the forgotten vets roll out into the streets with missing body parts and mental disorders, maybe to one day become a thing of history... And now there's a fresh crop of twentysomethings being badly injured in this war, only to come home to despair and end up on the street. I hope we don't vote in anymore war presidents who haven't yet made the connection between military trauma and our nation's shocking homelessness problem.
Can pelosi be recalled ?
I don't think she is man enough for the job nor do I trust her.
I'll bet she traded impeachment for rumsfeld's ass.
Cheney is NOT Vice President. Call him Cheney, like the common lickspittle he is. He has illegally occupied our office of VP for seven years after twice stealing election through felony vote theft and fraud engineered by himself, Karl Rove, Tim Griffith, Brad Schlozman etc etc etc.
Bush's father profited by trading with the nazis. Karl Rove has nazis in his background. The "new world order" is an essentially nazi-style plot to enslave the world. Halliburton, Cheney's former company, which Cheney made huge profits from after 3000 people were killed in the intentional destruction of the WTC, has been busy building prison camps on our American soil. Cheney is also in effect a nazi.
It is now seven years past time we Impeached the twice-unelected traitorous criminal nazis who have twice stolen our elections, who would put us in prison camps, and who want to brainchip the entire population that they don't kill, except for themselves of course. If you are police or military, do not for a second believe you will somehow be protected from these plans; the brownshirts were the first to be shot in the back as soon as the nazis assumed power.
These are profoundly unamerican and criminally dangerous psychopathic meglomaniacs; anyone who believes that they are in any way actually "conservative" or "patriotic" is brainwashed by the media and illegal mind-control which the same gang of globalist corporatists have been developing and using through the CIA and the entire host of alphabet-soup black-budget agencies funded by our tax dollars, to arrogate unearned, illegitimate and illegal power, control and profit for many hundreds of years.

You seem to have forgotten that those vets are baby boomers.
What's your point?
Um...13 is not universally recognized as an unlucky number. Get over the triskaidekaphobia already.
Those baby boomers are the ones I wasn't referring to, who are not well off, and who I would expect to be here.

Jason Wolfe @ 25:
Hell, I just turned 54 so I guess I fit your statistic. Yes, I watched the first moon walk live on tv, same with the Kennedy assassination only we watched it at school with our sobbing teachers. I watched as the Vietnam war ate up my school mates and military issue rifles cut down other people's school mates. I watched our country, the red-white-and-blue-flag-waving-pledge-reciting all-Americans turn their backs on the same young men they sent to fight in their stead. I watched crooks and thieves and liars and maniacs turn this country upside down and inside out and hardly anyone seems to have really noticed. Now I'm insulted by the largest jackass y'all could muster up for prezident and I'm effing pissed off that this is how I get to spend my coming "golden years," fighting the same battle in the same war with the same bunch of organized idiots we call our "government." Does anyone know the meaning of that word? Well, govern means to control and "ment" is from the latin root mente meaning mind. Control Mind = Government.
Is there any such thing as a progressive anarchist?
And since we're already on the topic of psychedelic relics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJg2FatUHI8
andre @ 57:
What, you think only upper-class, white-collar, baby-boomers are progressive? Maybe poor boomers don't have computers? Tell me, what would be the deal breaker that would polarize baby-boomers to the degree you are suggesting? Why, exactly, would "not well off" boomers not be expected to frequent this blog? BTW, I'm permanently disabled with PTSD, on a fixed low-income pension, nearly homeless and I visit this blog every day.
Gekke @ 29:
A good idea. But, its difficult to get cowards like them to fight. It might be a good way to reverse the immigration issue though. Just tell that 13% that they will be going to Iraq or Afghanistan and watch them run to the border. Who knows, if that happened we might hear cries of "Go home Gringo and fight for your Boosh and Cheney!" from the Mexican Government. Then again, if that idea were proposed Bush and Cheney would have poll readings of 0%.
Joe Scarborough and his guest (I don't know his name) are beating up on Michael Moore's CNN interview, and his disputes with Sanjay Gupta's "fact checking" story on Sicko. Joe called Michael Moore a "coward" for not confronting the companies he goes after in Sicko, and complained in that in "Bowling for Columbine," that Michael Moore went after "an alzheimer's victim," referring to Charlton Heston.
I just did some fact checking of my own, and sent an e-mail to the Morning Joe show:
From a commentor on the linked site:
"It’s all Bush and CHENEY’s fault?
Why is it that LIBERALS NEVER BLAME SADAAM?!"
For twerps like that commentor from the linked article they will never hold Bush and Cheney to account for their crimes just like Hussein's supporters never held him accountable for his. I'm glad I don't have that problem.
And, of course, Cheney couldn't care less. This isn't a democracy or a popularity contest, after all.
13& huh wow what a piece of shit.

M. Taylor says she doesnt intend to testify cause Bush claimed executive privilege. But Mr.Cheney said hes no part of the executive. Where´s the court to imprison these assholes?
I was skimming through the comments on that article, and this one (#50) made me ROFL:
I hope he/she was being sarcastic.
I predict that the next post here at crooks and liars will be about McCain. ;)
I can't imagine what those 13 percenters must be like.
I mean, are they fellow vampires who get excited about sending people to their deaths? Who love the idea of murdering people for personal enrichment? What's the attraction - eh. eh, I just love the way Dick has managed to manipulate the whole government to start a war to enrich himself and his cronies, bankrupt America and kill most of a million people, eh, eh, I just love him, eh, eh. What can they point to except criminal enterprise?
So as the deficit AND debt continue to rise, the Cheney/Bush team poll numbers plummet?

Joe O. @ 64:
Because Sadaam would've been a used car salesman if the US hadn't made him the tyrant he was. It was Dick's signature on those billions of dollars of checks we gave him back in the 80's when Dick was Secretary of Treasury under Reagan. And Rumsfeld who hand delivered the anthrax hand grown in Virgina Saddam used to gas Iranians in 83.
JohnnyThief @ 77:
I agree Johnny. One can not look at Hussein's actions without seeing Cheney and the others standing behind him.

Busholini's got his rose-colored glasses on. Obviously the money pit aka Iraq isn't included in these projections.
Funny thing is Friday the 13th is a Christian superstition. It's generally traced to Good Friday and 13 people at dinner Jesus and his 12 apostles.
If one uses the accepted numerological value of 13 it adds to 4 which is considered a stable number, like four legs of a chair.
That 13% is comprised of dentists. They are the same dentists that represent the 1 out of every 5 dentists who do not recommend sugarless gum for their patience who chew gum.
Sarah Taylor's testifyin' in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. It's live on C-Span 3.
Anyone watchin'?
I'm watching.
Hi Andy K.
She's brighter than some of the others we've seen. Wait until Feingold gets his chance
Hi Janet, here we are again watching a long haired blonde talk about this crap.
She's answers more than she's asked. Must make her attorney nervous.
Instead of "I don't recall" she uses the "executive" excuse.
Same shit. Different tactic.
Those people from Code Pink are distracting. Not their best idea to be the background at these hearings. But that's just my opinion.
Brighter than who? It ain't real tough to outshine the roster of GOP excellence we've seen lately.
That's true, Andy K. My bad!
Leahy should be gettin' rid of the Code Pink signs soon.
Yer right, they're distractin'.
I just don't see the reason for wearing funny hats to a hearing. It adds nothing for their cause.
On a very superficial note: Sara needs eithr longer or shorter sleeves. When she stretches those arms out across the table she looks like Karloff as Frankenstein's monster.
LOL
Is Taylor an attorney by trainin'?
Also, loved how, when answerin' Leahy's(?) questions per Cummins, Taylor said she heard Bud was plannin' on resignin' anyway.
Yeah, right.
She's going to let a cat out of a bag....wait and see
Oh my God, this Sara Taylor is SO annoying to listen to. Uhhhhh, uhhhhhhhhhh, ........., I'm trying to explain, uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
UGH!!!!!!
She's a former political director. Jeebus!
She does uhhhhhhhhhhh a lot. Like nails on a black board to me. Dr. what do you expect from this white house? They all have the same IQ and it matches their age.
"I can't answer that question".
Honey, you WON'T answer b/c you're afraid of Boosh.
God damn it, you are a PRIVATE CITIZEN and aren't under any obligation to restrict your testimony due to duress from anyone!
Let's hope she has to go to her attorney a lot. Her lack of volume control could be her undoin'!
Wonder if Harriet will show up and do this? These questions have no fu*king thing to do with security. They are about people lying. How the hell can the white house claim privilege?
I know Andy, you could hear every word she said. I still hold out hope that she'll screw the dog before this is over.
That's it, Chuck! Domenici has no privilege!
Why the hell can't she answer the simple y/n questions that don't reveal names? She may CLAIM she wants to answer but can't, but it's bullshit.
Sorry Mr. Attorney, but Busholini CAN NOT suppress the testimony of a PRIVATE CITIZEN!
Go get 'em Chuck Schumer!!!!!
So would the Domino's delivery guy be considered external communications?
What would happen to her if she answered a question that was not okayed by the letter? Would she go to jail? I mean I really don't know. It's not like she would be fired by the white house cause she no longer works there.
In regards to the 13%, I think of the phrase when someone limbos -- "How low can you go?" Anyone have any guesses at what number Dead-Eye Dick will bottom out at?
Andy K @ 107:
Apparently so...national security, you know. If anyone learned who likes what on their pizza we'd be doomed. DOOMED I tell ya!
Jesus, what a dog fu*k. All this just to try to find out the facts of a case. Bush is in ass cover mode and the world must stand still.
She fucked up good by talkin' about Cummins/Griffin!
Andy K @ 104:
