Schmidt: Yesterday I stood at Arlington National Cemetery attending the funeral of a young marine in my district. He believed in what we were doing is the right thing and had the courage to lay his life on the line to do it. A few minutes ago I received a call from Colonel Danny Bubp, Ohio Representative from the 88th district in the House of Representatives. He asked me to send Congress a message: Stay the course. He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message, that cowards cut and run, Marines never do. Danny and the rest of America and the world want the assurance from this body – that we will see this through.

If anyone ever questioned the racist leanings of Republicans, they should take a closer look at Jean's attire in this clip. A black friend of mine pointed out that the not-so-subliminal message of her red white and blue outfit is it's design proximity to the U.S. civil war confederate flag's "stars and bars". (there are no past or current "union" designs that include a blue stripe with white stars.)
Obviously, the message Jean is trying to send out the member's of her nearly all white constituency is, "Don't worry white folk, we got your back, in Iraq, and here at home.
Why she neglected to scream "Sieg Heil!!!" at the same time is anybody's guess.

Saw one of those lettered signs on my way from WV to MD today. It said "if you aren't behind our troops, why don't you get in front of them". Took me a few minutes to get angry. Much slower than the instantaneous, "what the hell?" response I had to whatever knucklehead in Congress reported the other day that the surge was one of our country's most successful military operations ever. I keep thinking it can't get any worse, but it does. I keep wondering which of my neighbors, colleagues, grocery shoppers, highway drivers are "those people" - the ones who still think Bush is great, and we're on the right track. They need electroshock therapy.

I'm rather shocked by the lack of knowledge of Mean Jean Schmidt's opponent, both in 2006 and again in this election cycle. Victoria Wulsin came very close to knocking Schmidt off without much attention from anybody save ACTBLUE. I've admired Jean's courage ever since she took her M-16 and headed to Iraq.
That was one of the few moments that the Democrats showed real backbone, on-the-spot. I'm serious. I recall hearing the voice of Massachusetts rep. Marty Meehan yell, "You guys are pathetic!" But I don't think that is all he said. I remember him also yelling to Schmidt, "Say it to his face!" And I heard a few F-Bombs too.
