Fran Townsend Spreads Fear & Propaganda On Her Way Out Of Washington

Outgoing Homeland Security Adviser Fran Townsend appeared on Tuesday morning's Morning Joe on MSNBC and couldn't resist doing what she did best for the last 4 1/2 years -- spreading fear using unsubstantiated terror warnings and making excuses and running cover for the Bush administration's use of torture.
Co-host Mika Brzezinski does a good job of holding Townsend's feet to the fire, asking tough questions about the GWOT and waterboarding, and then actually following up on them. Near the end of the interview Brzezinski asks her about a recent statement she made about a possible terror threat during the upcoming 2008 elections and Townsend, in typical Bushworld fashion, implies that while there is no credible evidence of any plots in the works, the government should prepare for some sort of disaster -- between the elections and inauguration.

I agree with "andy" above. The disaster could be a loss of all electronic voting data, not enough paper trail to recreate the results and Bush declares the sabotage as a terrorist attack and institutes marshal law.
However real or far-fetched people would believe this to be, the fact that it's a topic of discussion does not rule it out as something that could come true easily. Just examine all the whittlings away at our Constitution. With a complicit Supreme Court, this is completely doable.
What does the military think of it? Will there be any heroes step up and denounce it if it is attempted?

It is highly doubtful if the U.S., that beacon of democracy, has managed to obtain any useful information after performing some extremely dubious types of interrogation on these prisoners, or, in the words of the administration, enemy combatants.

The inside story is that Townsend personally thwarted, in hand-to-hand combat, the single greatest threat to US security in the past four years. It happened because Leezaa was checking into what, exactly, the DHS under Chertoff was doing, other than awarding huge no-bid contracts to Israeli 'consultant' firms to advise him on what to do.
When Leezaa found that DHS and Chertoff were doing, and had accomplished, nothing, and was about to issue a report about the non-performance, Townsend, worried about her sinecure, basically a no-work, no-show, well-paid 'job', and that it was about to go down the drain, physically wrestled Leezzaa to the floor in Chertoff's office and threatened to release transcripts DHS had made of Leezzaa directly negotiating with Olmert to wrangle a date with 'Miss Israel'.
So DHS was saved from embarrassment, and possible disbanding, and this was characterized as 'The greatest threat to US security', by Townsend in one of her speeches, while refusing to give details of the 'threat' for 'national security' reasons.

Interview follow up questions require the ability to quickly think on your feet. This is an ability that today's all looks-no brains TV talking heads don't possess. Can you imagine Walter Cronkite being on TV today? In todays world CBS would rather try to make Katie Cour-rockhead look like a journalist than to try gussy up Walter to meet their demographic needs.

Congress goes on vacation as much as Bush does, and with the same results:
(1) Bush goes on vacation in August 2001. He's only been on the job six months. 9/11 happens one month later.
(2) Congress goes on vacation - Bush pushes through John Bolton, and other atrocities into Cabinet positions. Congress also leaves with a lot of legislation not passed and Bush starts issuing Signing Statements, developing his own laws.
