Hostage crisis over: Leeland Eisenberg caught
By John Amato Thursday Nov 29, 2007 5:34pmWhat a wild story. The guy looks like a pretty sick individual:
A mentally unstable man wearing what appeared to be a bomb strapped to his chest was arrested hours after he walked into a Hillary Rodham Clinton campaign office Friday, took hostages and demanded to speak to the candidate in a standoff that dragged into the night, authorities said.
Eisenberg made local headlines in March when he held a news conference on the steps of Rochester City Hall to complain about a police policy of placing fliers in unlocked cars warning motorists to lock their doors. "This is nothing more than a gimmick to get around the Constitution and go around in the middle of the night upon unsuspecting citizens in their own yard and search their vehicles," Eisenberg said.
I'll have more later...

I don't know who he is, or his history. I won't put money on him being a rethuglican, but, I wouldn't be suprised if he was.
Plus frist
I am very glad no one was hurt, but is it just me or does this remind anyone of the anthrax attacks right before the passage of the Patriot Act in Oct. 2001?
We have the S 1959 “Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007″ waiting in committee and it just passed the House 404 to 6.
And the guy being interviewed said that this guy (he was "told") was into "conspiracy theories and such".
http://willyloman.wordpress.com/2007/11/30/bomb-wearing-homegrown-terror...
I remember that story about flyers on unlocked cars. I thought the guy looked familar...
I was right, that guy is an Asst. AG, works for Mukasey.
I'm glad this ended peacefully, but you guys didn't watch the same news coverage I saw! "Walked into" the office??? Hell, no! He BARGED into it, dammit! STORMED, I tell ya!!! I heard it all afternoon from the Hyperventilation Brigade! Auntie Em! Toto! It's A Twister, It's A Twister!!! TV news coverage is embarrassing to watch.
IF feel you Willyloman but this may not be the agent provecatur of Cointelpro. Believe me I think he is just a nut. So far the only thing I see about this guy is that he might be the same Leeland Eisenberg that was molested by a catholic priest.
http://www.bishop-accountability.org/ma-boston/archives/PatternAndPracti...
I hope like you that he is justa nut and this an isolated incident and not the catalyst to crack down on you know who.
This isn't a right or left issue this is a security issue and why wasn't any type of security in place?
Per the CNN web site, Eisenberg wanted to call attention to the mental health system in America and the apparent lack of treatment available to people who suffer from mental illness.
I hope he receives the treatment he desperately needs. He put those people in the office, their families and friends, through a living hell.
Heard them say that the guy they got was complaining about the Mental Health Care
problems. Here is your ’staged set-up’. Hillary wants Universal Health Care, and this
hostage crisis will give her a ‘BOOST’ in her campaign message. We already know that
Murdoch has her back………..so, so staged.
This man is a mentally ill man...who is frustrated with the system, I believe, from what I'm hearing on all the newscasts. I'm glad all ended well.
As for "security"...why is that the first thing that everyone shouts after any incident? Do we want security and guards with guns in every single public building???
Fox News incorrectly outed some local guy as the suspect based on some young kid's version of events.
CLASSSIC!
see if you can post their hot tip before it went ice cold
he'll be revealed as a 'loyal bushie' who could not be appointed to a juicy judicial position because fredo is out as AG.
lavanda dolce @ 11:
No of course not but when you have someone like Hillary Clinton who's a former First Lady and current Senator running for President one would think there would be some type of security in place at her and others campaign offices to prevent something like this.
If 'mentally ill' is the reason for this affair, it makes you wonder why all the folks in the White House aren't constantly showing up in democratic campaign offices with bombs strapped to themselves.
lucid fiction @ 10:
Kind of repeating yourself aren't you? And, as I responded in another thread, you
must be kidding/joking; and if not it proves that you are a fool or perhaps better
described as an idiot who, like Eisenberg, needs help.
Ethan @ 14:
Why would you think that? Hillary Clinton wasn't in the building. You might as well wall yourself up if you want that much "security".
Oh and, law enforcements say that he was "very well known".
Hmmmm
Neoconservative Nepotism again displays its ugliness and absence of professionalism for all to see.
Courtesy of Lucianne Goldberg's Little Obese Boy at National Review:
Re: Sit-Rep In NH [Jonah Goldberg]
David writes:
The alleged bomber in Rochester, NH is a local man with a history of mental illness....
Who will be shocked to hear that he's miffed his video was cut from the CNN YouTube debate?
11/30 04:07 PM
John P. Normanson. Lucianne Goldberg's Little Obese Boy. Examples of why Neoconservative Nepotism remains the greatest threat to democracy, freedom, and American excellence by the sweat of one's own brow and the merit of one's own ideas.
This is what you get when you elect Repubs. The Return of the Dark Ages and the Wild West, where you are on your own and you better be quick with the trigger because everyone is armed to the teeth.
Looks like David Neiwert can do another hit peice, this guy was an "eliminationist Ron Paul supporter!"
Who else speaks of "the Constitution" besides "moonbats" and "loons" anyway?
I hope he gets the help he needs.
lucid fiction @ 10:
Like the "staged setup" when crazy Hinkley shot Reagan? Yeah, riiiight.
So the town crazy went, well...crazy. I would think that the office workers would know he was a downtown crazy when he came through the door. The whole situation might have been able to be handled by less than a SWAT team, since it was, after all, the town crazy. Someone might have thought that he probably didn't have a real bomb, since he was, after all the town crazy. Which is not to say a bundle of road flares wouldn't have made one helluva mess.
It's pretty funny that the Clintons went on full lockdown because a town crazy somewhere entered a campaign office. Terrorism obviously works, it seems to have reduced this country to a state of snivelization.
But note, he got what he wanted. So again, terrorism obviously works. Maybe the way to get your representative to listen to you is not to write poignant letters or submit a petition, but to go to his/her office with a bomb strapped around your waist.
Heard Tucker say that the guy should have done what a lot of other mentally ill people in this country have done - start a blog.
Now, if he had said start a RIGHT-WING blog, I could have agreed with him, but…
Thing Fish @ 17:
I agree. Let's see..there are 9 Dem candidates and 8 Repug candidates, and each have
numerous campaign offices located throughout the US., so let us theorized that each
has 3 offices(3X17=50 plus campaign offices) and now let's put 5 security guards in
each location, therefore we have 250 persons "guarding" the offices. Come on, get
real, come out of your basement periodically and see the daylight.
LEELAND ELI EISENBERG formerly known as RALPH E. WOODWARD, JR.?

Thank God that's over.
Doggiebobo @ 16:
well, as over the top as it may have sounded, can you 'really' put anything past these people in power?
Let's just see how this plays out. My dollar says that this incident will, how shall I put it...
Be used as an "opportunity" as our King George so apptly put regarding 9/11.
They use any and all crisis for their political advantage, which usually ends up being to our disadvantage.
just saying.
Get a load of this one
Republicans Report Much Better Mental Health Than Others

Thankfully, it sounds like he's not a muslim. Could anyone imagine the shitfit all the wingnuts would be having if he was?
lucid fiction @ 29:
Oh, I totally and completly agree with you as to "the present powers in office" trying to
do anything for their political advantage, but implying that this was "staged" by
Hillary's office is what I disagree with. Sorry if I over-stepped in my comments.
The guy looks like a pretty sick individual:
A Repig hardliner????? ;)
lavanda dolce @ 11:
Agreed. Campaign sites are always just a few local volunteers. There's no need for security because of one ill guy every hundred years or so.
The police there did a good job. And yeah, mental health care in most of the states is terrible and insufficient. Sounds like this guy was distraught about several life events and he had a history of erratic behavior.
Security's not the answer. Community support is. So is just reaching out to folks under stress. And remember, holiday season is historically the most stressful of all to the lonely and troubled. Remember to reach out a little more, and it will improve things for somebody. And that's really the best we can do while we try and build a functional healthcare system from the stinking one we've got today.
Ethan @ 8:
How secure do you think we ought to be? Everyone strapped in place? Permission slips to move? Stuff happens. Don't be afraid.
Swashbuckler @ 25:
What a fop Tucker is. Born with a silver spoon up his a$$, he's got all the answers except how to get viewers to listen to his whines.
jackpine savage @ 24:

It would have been unbelievably insensitive of them to continue their schedules with business as usual when you consider that one or more of their campaign volunteers were at risk of serious injury or death. I don't think it was a response to terrorism, I think it just plain humanity.
oZer @ 12:
I fell asleep watching Fox Noise endlessly repeating some guy's name (Troy Stanley), talking to his close friend about his "bad breaks lately" & wacky "conspiracy theories." Then I woke up & heard it was some name entirely different. Ooops! Never mind. Thanks for your great work & get back in your car, Mr. Cameron.
FedUpFred @ 38:
Not surprising...since most all of us informed/intelligent C&L posters know.."Faux Noise"
is just that...false clattering of the jaw bone and lips.
"placing fliers in unlocked cars warning motorists to lock their doors."
I'd complain about that too. You can't tell anymore from looking at the outside of a car. What, the police there go around testing the doors to see if they're locked? Then they place the fliers "in" unlocked cars (after looking for pot no doubt). Kind of an invasion of privacy... not to mention the annoyance of having car alarms go off every few minutes.
Mentally ill eh... So, I guess he's a registered republican huh..JD
Chris G. @ 4:
Not "flyers on unlocked cars." Rather the police trying to open cars to see if they were unlocked. Nutso now or not, he was right to scream about that one.
Whatever the guys mental issues I have to agree with his being ticked off at that crazy police policy.
Swashbuckler @ 25:
Tucker is bitter lately. Short-timers
Checking the politics of chuckleheads?
Jeez.
Pretty soon this deranged individual will also be presumed
responsible for the Titanic.
Pretty convenient though, all wrapped up at 6:15 pm EST.
Was he negotiating with the networks?
JS
StirFry @ 44:
Tucker must be thinking of Drudge or Chas. Johnson.
Rahm_Emanuel_Is_A_Tool @ 42:
Did you actually mean to write "Nutso now or not"???
Helloooo? He strapped a "bomb" on himself and took hostages. I think the "nutso" part has been confirm.
You? I'm not so sure.
If I were a Republican and just watched the CNN/You Tube debate, I'd be pretty distraught, too.
sound familiar?
DeLay's health care lie (Nov 12, 2007)
Worst Person: Tom DeLay described the U.S. health care system saying, "There's no one denied health care in America."
http://www.olbermann.org/ko/index.cfm
Ethan @ 8:
why should there have to be 'security'?
Straight Shooter @ 9:
please don't tell me you believe cnn!
I definitely don't agree with his actions, but the quoted protest of police opening private citizens' cars and placing fliers within is completely unacceptable. Regardless of whether or not the local law enforcement determines unlocked vehicles to be an issue, in no way at all are they allowed to open said vehicle even to place a warning. Abominable breach of the fourth amendment.
*yawn*....what happened?
OK, Mr. Coleman, we're eagerly awaiting more of your cogent, reasoned and eloquent observations.
Assuming, of course, that you're not a stupid, myopic, reich-wing parrot.
Security should not be the responsibility of taxpayers. If a person decides to be a candidate they should pay for security/body-guards with their campaign funds...not the taxpayer paying for secret service, etc. If security was the responsibility of citizens, then every candidate who entered the race would have taxpayers paying for their secret service/body-guards, etc. Again, the campaign funds should be paying for this.
Another point is that there are so many negative emails about Hillary, blather, blather, blather by Chris Matthews that is was almost a certainty that something like this would happen. I hold them responsible too.
right wing nuts are really disappointed he is named Eisenberg and not Ahmed.
I'm disapointed in you Mister Admin, usually your more objective and don't succumb to sensationalism.
Calling him "pretty sick individual" (We know he had problems, but that hardly makes him 'sick') or adding excalmation points for the original part. Come on, we expect something higher than Fox News-ish teasers.
I hope some of you are pleased with your childish indulgence of left/right conspiracies. The most important thing is no one was hurt.
"He was mentally ill so he must be a Republican." or "He's a nut." or "He's the town crazy." Haha. This is one of the reasons why mentally ill people don't talk about being mentally ill. Stick labels and judge, Gods and Goddesses, people you don't know, that you don't about their life, don't know about their condition, you don't know fuck all about them except what they have done. You know fuck all about their motivation (this only applies if it applies to you; there are many comments that were sympathetic and non-judgmental) and you know fuck all about how Eisenberg came to his potentially disasterous conclusion.
I hate the labeling of mentally ill people or any person. Because until you walk a mile or at the least get to know about this person or anybody, you have no moral authority or right to judge people. You can say whatever you want and it's free speech and all that. Free speech doesn't give you the right to demean any person just because you have the right to say whatever you want.
You just don't know.
Road flares? Did this guy just finish watching Tommy Boy?
Regarding the many previous comments, if this man had been a Muslim, those "bombs" strapped to his chest would have been real, would have been activated, and many lovely people would be dead and maimed for life by now. Think about it.
Nice photo op for Hillary -- only not as longlasting as a mine collapse or a brush fire.
L.A. Confidential @ 30:
They definitely have it backward in that article when they say "In other words, party identification appears to have an independent effect on mental health even when each of these is controlled for."
It should say "Mental health has an independent effect on party affiliation. Better mental health leads to becoming a Republican!"
Hmmm, what did I just say?
You Democraps are a bunch of idiot fuckwads. :-)
Leeland Eisenberg wasn't caught by anybody. He surrendered to authorities. Hillary Clinton grabbed a microphone and thanked the authorities. Beyond that she had no involvement.
I miss the days when Bill Clinton would lob a bomb here or there to distract from the purjury scandal. These hostage things are just not as exciting.
Ed
Jefferson Mwangi @ 62:
Mighty impressive.
Did you type those words all by yourself or did Rev. Pat and/or Rev. Jim dictate them to you?
Mark @ 66:
Or perhaps Michael Ledeen, John P. Normanson, and the Atlas Shrugs Temper Tantrum Queen told you what to type and you, like any Neoconservative, mindlessly followed?
Your loyalty is impressive; your intelligence rather putrid. Keep trying though. No doubt the American Enterprise Institute has an endowment for blind Neocon followers like yourself. Just make sure that, unlike last time, they don't pay you in empty Pez dispensers gained from Uncle Sol's surplus stock out from that warehouse in Camden.
In the United States of America there is hardly any mental health care to speak of. It consists primarily of expensive pharmaceutical drugs or massively expensive counseling sessions that are normally not covered by health care packages. Check out this deranged guys plea. Our system is pathetic.
Hostage taker complained of lack of access to mental health care
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/11/30/clinton.hostagetaker/index.html
Someone posted "I hate the labeling of mentally ill people or any person. Suicide bombers should be demeaned in any way possible as many times as possible in a day, every day. I judge them and label them as evil as anyone in their right mind with a shred of a conscience would. Whether you rob a bank with a fake gun or a real one you get equal condemnation. Whether you're a real suicide bomber or a fake one you get the same judgments.
It doesn't justify taking hostages even if they're Hillary Clinton supporters, but that police policy is creepy as hell and I'd want it stopped if I lived anywhere that this was done. However, I'd definitely start locking my car door - to keep the fucking cops out of my car. Big Brother is all up in your grill.
Hitlery falling behind in the polls ... suspicious timing.
Let's see, a mentally-ill man seeking improvement to the mental health system? Does anyone else see a correlation with Catch-22? Was his real name Yossarian?
Then again, who better to consult on mental illness than Hitlery?
Nevertheless, has anyone ever seen a more non-threatening hostage crisis? He released hostages very quickly and didn't hold out very long. In fact, I bet there has never been such a docile "hostage" (wink, wink) crisis.
Quickly, news sources produced articles using the same buzzwords, calm, under pressure et al. What timng!
Is there nothing this communist would not do for power?
Go ahead, call for censorship, attack the messenger, but deep inside, you know this is all true.
