Obama says he'd possibly appoint <i>Arnold</i> to his cabinet
By John Amato Wednesday Dec 19, 2007 5:09pmHere we go---the good old bipartisan garbage. I can't stand primary season. Arnold got shamed by the Nurses and was forced to change his style of "governating" so why did Barack pick him?
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger: "What (he's) doing on climate change in California is very important and significant. There are things I don't agree with him on, but he's taken leadership on a very difficult issue and we haven't seen that kind of leadership in Washington," Obama said of the California governor
Paul Rosenburg writes:
Here's an article I wrote back in July, about how Schwarzenegger fired the head of the California Air Resources Board for being too enthusiastic about fighting global warming--and then lied about it, claiming that the fired official had resigned. I also refer to an executive order that, like a Bush signing statements, effectively undermined the law it was supposed to reinforce--the global warming law that Schwarzenegger is routinely hailed for.
And C&L's good pal Julia Rosen has a fairly comprehensive look at the Terminater's governing style.
Let me state up front that since moving to California two years ago, I have written thousands of blog posts on Arnold Schwarzenegger. This governor loves to say one thing and do another. His public statements rarely match up with his actions. I talk about Arnold's governing philosophy in terms of software versions, since it switches all too often...read on

I'm so sick of MFers trying to get street cred from the Broderite unity08 fetishists
He is not going to have a cabinet, unless he is talking about a bathroom cabinet.
Jingle All the Way 2?
Sinbad is still alive isn't he?
call me what you want, i kinda like aanold
Interesting how Arnold can "lead" on climate change, but when it comes to California's Medical Marijuana Laws, the Governator defers to Federal AuthoriTay and whines about being afraid of sending "mxed messages." And don't even get me started about his vetoes of the Hemp bills.
All the more reason not to vote for Obama.
End the Republican/Democrat circle jerk- Vote Nader
Obama loves to position himself as embodying post partisan politics. So I wish I could say this comes as a surprise. It's in line with saying that the drug and insurance industries should have a say in shaping healthcare policy and parroting the canard about social security being in trouble. I don't like HRC, but I won't be surprised to find out he's even worse.
Arnold is a piece of shit corporate hackers. Obama can kiss my ass if he thinks I will vote for him if he puts that idiot in his administration.
jr @ 1:
How is that Unity08 thing going, anyway? I don't see much about it anymore. Not that I would want to. What a lame idea.
Strange that dems think they have to be bi-partisan , whatever that means and republicans can be as biased , partisan and have to pass a strict litmus test . So I can see it as a deliberate political move this MIGHT get him a wider support from reps and dems , but A. I don't trust A.S. , because of his past affection with authoritarianism . We also have to keep in mind republican power machine ( G. Schultz) are doing everything they they can to get A.S. in the White House , so I hope Obama isn't making a deal with the Devil in order to get into the White House . Arnold is doing his best aCTING now , taking on issues in order to seem like he's a progressive , but do you really think the godfather of the republican power machine would support and advocate the constitution be changed for a a guy who would easily turn into a liberal . Something is at play here . Besides Obama said " we have to keep troops in IRAQ , to PROTECT OUR INTERESTS " Code word for controlling Iraq's economy . So anything is possible .
Obama is a spineless democrat who wants to work with these crooked republicans. Nothing will get done with Hillary and Obama.
As far as I'm concern the top 3 democrats should be Mr. Kucinich, Mr. Edwards and Mr. Dodd
They have all shown good judgement, leadership and a backbone.
Here we go. More purity posts. If he doesn't hate all republicans he's not worthy.
I don't see anything in that statement that indicates that Obama would even consider Arnold for a spot in his cabinet. He was asked to comment on a politician and he commented.
If you're just going to parrot abcnews you might as well stick a Support Hillary graphic at the bottom of these posts.
bcr @ 12:
If he doesn't hate all Rethugs, he hasn't been paying attention.
Never trust the corporatists.
I suppose he'll be Secretary of Bad Accents. Kissenger wasn't available.
This would be a great moment for Ahrnold to hold a press conference and announce, since the Republican party has abandoned moderates like himself, he is declaring himself an INDEPENDENT....while we could wish he would opt to be a DEM, the IND is probably the best we can wish and hope for...
I hope Bush and his policies, and his nasty attitude towards California (and maybe even his wife's counsel and urgin), will make him declare his total independence of this criminal administration.
COM'ON AHRNOLD...terminate your Republicaness!!!
ahhhnold and obamas a piece of shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!kucinici 08
Well, if this is true, Obama has lost any chance he had of getting my vote.
Well I'm glad Obama pick Aanold, as it should tell you much of what I had suspected of Obama. He wants popular friends of the media, but not real solution to serious problem. I have kind of thought Obama is more of a mugwamp sitting on the fence of both side. I am all for bringing the party together. But I am all for holding those accountable for the abuse on both party and not to appease the offender of Bush Crime family. I will give this to Arnold that at time he stood against the wishes of Bush. So we'll see.......but I am watching, but hoping more for Kucinich, and Edward.
ahnold is suing w for failure to lead on global warming.
Paulo, you so correct.
Another reason to not vote for Obama.
I would so much like to vote for a non-white/male for president. We have had plenty examples of how poorly they do in office. But Hillary or Barack? Give me a frickin' break!
Where is Dick Gregory when you need him?
Time to stick a fork in the Magic Negro.
You're done, Son.
Christine @ 19:
Ugh. Don't be manipulated by abcnews and then by this site into changing your vote because 1) you're to lazy to read the article yourself and see that it's a bunch of spin and 2) people are biased towards other candidates.
http://goldwatermiller08.com/
NOT a good move Sen. Obama.
A good way to get Ahnold out of the governor seat and get a progressive into the spot. I note all the above posters claiming this is the final straw, when they have posted the same thing hundreds of times before.
ALERT: OBAMA LEADS IN IOWA
IdahoMoe @ 26:
Did you even read the article?
hehe....bathroom cabinet...LOL
THIS makes Crooks and Liars, yet Hillary's lies, deceit, and attacks don't? Bullshit! He wants a bipartisan cabinet, with people such as Lugar and Hagel.
God forbid Barack Obama doesn't have a pathological hatred for every single Republican in history!
seele @ 27:
Yeah, how is Obama supposed to answer that question? "Nope, never, won't even think about it."?
He won't put Arnold in the cabinet; he's just playing nice with the press.
Steve Charb @ 30:
not at tall he loves them !
Steve Charb @ 30:
More and more it seems C&L is becoming a Hillary stump site.
medlakeguy @ 4:
I agree. The Governor has gone against BushCo often and strongly. He refused to knuckle under on stem cell research making California on of the few places in the U.S. actually working on the research with funding from the government. He is making strides against global warming, (no matter what his detractors say) and protected California's National Guardsmen and first responders from being taken by BushCo and used elsewhere. Just because he was an actor and a cartoony figure in Hollywood doesn't automatically make him a poor leader, just like a former heroic cowboy actor didn't make a particularly good leader.
Nonfactor @ 33:
she is a stump
Obama was asked what Republicans he would work with, and he answered, "There are many Republicans who I respect..." and proceeded to name a few. He never said he would appoint anybody to his cabinet.
He answered a question. We're supposed to be pissed?
Obama is alright by me.
This just in: "Obama vows to NOT imprison all republicans at Gitmo torture camp"
Yep, thats the last straw! I am voting for Hillary...
Old Billy @ 36:
I think it's more like John saw an entry to abcnews that might make Obama look bad to some of those on the left and he repeated it regardless of the fact that Obama never even says he'd consider Arnold for his cabinet.
I might put Andre Dawson and Angela Lansbury in my cabinet, but my negatives aren't as high as Hiliary and I won't galvanize the right.
Fuck Obama, and fuck this bipartisan bullshit. if we get a Dem prez and a Dem congress I do not want any of these goddamned Rethugs in the cabinet. They had their chance and they screwed our country rude. Let them crawl back to the ratholes they should have been confined to in the first place. Obama, just shut the fuck up. You are doing EXACTLY what that idiot Harold Ford did here in Tennessee during the '06 Senate race: running like a Rethug instead of a Dem - and losing because of it. When are these fucking dickwads going to realize that we want LESS bipartisanship, not more? We want a Dem agenda, not a capitulation to Rethug policies. Obame first pissed me off with that homophobic ex-gay asshole, then with his phony Social Security scare, then with his non-voting on controversial measures so it wouldn't come back to haunt him, and now this. And people call Hillary Clinton shallow and calculating? Pot, meet kettle!
Dom @ 40:
Try reading the articles you respond to before going apeshit and making yourself look stupid.
Obama can't be serious!
Arnold is a steroid freak with only one talent- self promotion.
"Here we go. More purity posts. If he doesn’t hate all republicans he’s not worthy." - bcr
"--If he doesn’t hate all Rethugs, he hasn’t been paying attention." - Jo
I've noticed a thread in many posts on C&L. Republicans who come out on the right side of an issue are still reviled. Democrats who don't hate all Republicans are just as bad...
What a bunch of mooks.
At some point, we are Americans. There are common issues and common ground that a leader must find to unite this country. You are as marginal as the idiots who still think Bush is great leader and Rush is right...
Get over yourselves and your misguided ideas of ideological purity.
You will always be on the outside looking in, too good to vote for someone who might actually get elected.
In 2000, you were the ones who voted for Nader, saying there was no difference between Bush and Gore. Idiots. I hope you're happy. You obviously haven't learned much...
Steve Charb @ 30:
Yeah, because it's worked out so well for Lieberman!
Hating the current crop of GOP politicians is like hating cancer, and God has nothing to do with it.
Nonfactor @ 41:
haha...EXACTLY...anybody who has that much hate / emotional reactivity to this whole thing needs to take a long look in the mirror...there is something missing from your life that has nothing to do with politics..
kiva
Make Arnie the VP
We are going to do to the Republican party exactly what you've tried done to us, but we're going further -- we're going to exterminate your identity, and stamp you as the traitors to America that you've become. You are Tory scum, and you are finished. We are going to purge you from America.
If Obama helps, fine. If he doesn't, he's in the trash along with you.
By all means, let's continue this partisan bullshit. It's certainly worked wonders so far. I applaud Obama for considering such a move. I know this will come as a shock, but not all Republicans are bloodthirsty monsters. Why not invite them to the table and hear what they have to say?
Limiting yourself to Yes Men is dangerous...whether it's on the Left or Right.
Why are all these Dem candidates (i.e. obama, edwards, richardson) announcing that they'll have Repubs in their cabinets?? I cannot think of ONE Republican who, based on past performance, deserves a spot in a Dem cabinet. It's just insanity and just another example of Dem self-destruction. Jeez, just worry about picking a running mate - forget about trying to sound bipartisan or worse, whore yourself to get more votes from the right and independents. Ain't gonna happen.
PLOP!
that was the sound of a California Democrat deciding who he's NOT voting for in the Primary.
anybody who characterizes Arnold as a trailblazer on this issue underestimates the voters of California.
WE are the reason he has got his head out of his butt.
Miss Manners says it's proper to wait and court the people who will never vote for you until AFTER you have the nomination.
theWalrus @ 49:
READ THE ARTICLE. If you can show me anywhere in Obama's two-sentence quote he says he'll appoint (or even "possibly appoint") Arnold to his cabinet I'll send you a cookie.
cage free brown @ 50:
You'd already decided, quit acting relevant.
theWalrus @ 49:
The question he was asked was, "What Republicans would you work with?"
Read the article.
Veritas78 @ 47:
While the Republican Party, as a whole, certainly deserves to be shunned and shamed based on their seven year track-record of lawlessness and corruption, you can bet that 5 minutes after a Dem is elected President next November they (the Right) will begin plotting on how best to strip the new President of all powers that have been used (and abused) by Bush. Based on the inability of the Dems to effectively fight back on anything, they'll probably succeed.
Nonfactor @ 51:
I did read it. The opener says: "ABC's Sunlen Miller Reports: Barack Obama has often said he'd consider putting Repbulicans in his cabinet and even bandied about names like Sens. Dick Lugar and Chuck Hagel. He's a added a new name to the list of possible Republicans cabinet members - Arnold Schwarzenegger."
Is that false? Has Obama "often said" that?
this makes me sick. how come every Democratic candidate, though way better than the criminal GOP, still has their heads up their ass?
Arnold Schwarzenegger's neo-con crook and is the same ilk as Cheney and Bush.
"Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “solutions to California’s energy woes” reflect those of former Enron chief Ken Lay. On May 17, 2001, in the midst of California’s energy crisis, which was largely caused by Enron’s scandalous energy market manipulation, Schwarzenegger met with Lay to discuss “fixing” California’s energy crisis. Plans to “get deregulation right this time” called for more rate increases, an end to state and federal investigations, and less regulation. While California Governor Gray Davis and Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante were taking direct action to re-regulate Califonia’s energy and get back the $9 billion that was vacuumed out of California by Enron and other energy companies, Schwarzenegger was being groomed to overthrow Davis in the recall. Thus canceling plans to re-regulate and recoup the $9 billion."

theWalrus @ 55:
Here's an example of media spin. Recognize it, and you could learn something.
Wow, good move Barack. It's always clever to appoint someone who wears an SS belt buckle on the cover of time magazine, and has a controversial neo-nazi background.
Let me break this down for people who still don't understand:
1. Media person asks Obama what Rebulican he would want in his cabinet.
2. Obama doesn't give an answer the media person likes.
3. Media person asks Obama's opinion on certain Republicans.
4. Obama gives a two-sentence response when Arnold's name is mentioned.
5. Media person titles article "Obama Says He'd Consider Arnold For His Cabinet"
6. John Amato sees this article and creates a blog post entitled "Obama says he’d possibly appoint Arnold to his cabinet"
Unbeknown to those who haven't read the article at the abcnews website, Obama never claimed that he would appoint Arnold to his cabinet.
I done told ya, and told ya again, Obama is a Manchurian Candidate.
Just another reason not to vote for Obama.
/California Voter
//The governator is as two faced as Obama, which is probably why he's attracted to Ahnold
///Arnold bi-partisan?! LOL
I don't have to apologize for anything I've said. After four years of rethug terrorism any move by Obama toward a reconciliation with republicans is blaspemy as far as I am concerned. He shouldn't even entertain the thought that he will accomodate the Rethugs. He should be damning them to hell, as should all of the Dems. If I go batshit crazy it's because he is beginning to do the SAME FUCKING SHIT that Pelosi, Reid, Hoyer, Emmanuel and the rest of the capitulating Dems do; buckle under to a non-existant call for bipartisanship - a call that only exists among the beltway pundits and elites. I want Dems, NOT Republican ass-kissers. fuck them. They had their chance. I thought everyone loved Obama because he represents change. Well, looks like the same ol' shit to me, folks. And it has to do with a lot more than his words about Ahnold.
Another reason for me NOT to vote for Obama.
My first problem with Obama is the notion that he can sit down and simply talk the CEOs of the insurance companies into giving up their mega-multi-million dollar salaries.
Its people like these:
People like this will not give up any of their power or one plug nickel of cash to anyone and anyone who says you can negotiate with them into doing it is either lying or stone cold nuts!
As to Obama wanting to put Arnold in his cabinet, the Julia Rosen piece analysis really says it all:
Great! Obama wants to take the Governator, who has chopped off the most vulnerable members of our society from health care! This is his idea of bipartisanship?????
I honestly don't know what to make of him. On another blog a poster gave a quote that he attributed to Atrios:
I don't think Obama is a "manchurian candidate" or any thing like that, he has a long record of voting against corpratist legislation and a real record of service as a civil rights attorney which he did for free.
But after this latest debacle you have to question his judgement, if not his sanity!
Nonfactor @ 65:
its not true i have stated that bill will traval the world with poppy bush with his jaws clamped around 41s cock, and hillery will expect pics from thier trip!
Thank god Obama doesn't have a prayer of winning. Guy's in the pants of the corporatists. As for Ahnold, remember his wifey saying "I know him, you can trust him, believe me". So much for him. Erase them all and take yer power back to your state...
it's beginning to happen anyway.
We've seen for the last 7-years what it's like when there is no effort to reach across the aisle and we hate that kind of governing.
Unlike Barack, Hillary won't have to worry about appointing a Republican to a cabinet position because she IS the Republican.
We are mere mortals and just do not understand. We must be obedient and follow as the hallowed Senator "present" teaches us. The Republicans really only want us all to get along.
Mere Mortal @ 71:
yes i can hear them now get along now just move towards the gate with the barbed wire on top!
Mere Mortal @ 71:
They are asking, no begging for their own obsolesence.
Ahhhh.
Ever more pandering from the freshfacenewdirection candidate.
Loves Lieberman.
Loves Donnie McClurkin
Loves Bush 41
Loves Ronnie Reagan
The liberals dream.
John, how could you promote this BS spin?
Oh, forgot... You're Hillary's boy!
derrick @ 63:
Give me a break. It has been said so many times I'm surprised you even think this. We're not endorsing ANY CANDIDATE. None of them. Period. Full Stop. Can I say it plainer for you?
We're a pro-Democratic party site, and we make no apology for it. But here's the deal: unless we fall along with your specific feelings on any candidate, it's not good enough. And that goes for every other one of the readers. Everyone feels we don't cover their particular candidate (and it doesn't matter who it is) and cover everyone else too much.
We do make choices about stories. Sometimes it falls to space, sometimes it falls to time constraints (I actually do have a job besides this one), sometimes it falls to having other content, like the Dodd filibuster or the Wexler impeachment campaign. I did have a story on Hillary using Bob Kerrey for a truly egregious whisper campaign against Barack, but the video I had was corrupted so we couldn't put up the post. By the time I got my hands on a clean clip, Kerrey had already apologized and Clinton made that stupid comment. However, Bush 41 went out and said it wasn't true immediately, so at that point, I didn't want to go chasing after a clip that was already out of date.
However, I'm really sick and tired of hearing people complain about some secret conspiracy we have to support any specific campaigns. Take off the tin foil hats. Maybe it's just because there's other stuff that we want to cover. Trust me, I've heard from the Clinton campaign that they're not happy with our coverage either.
I was there last night when he said that. He clearly wasn't naming people he would definitely put in his cabinet. He was just naming Republicans that he thought were good at their jobs and/or good people. With Arnold, he stressed strongly that he didn't agree with him on much, but praised what Arnold should be rightly praised for.
Barack Obama would pack his whole Cabinet with Republicans because he IS a conservative, another Joe Lieberman. Now, if Democrats keep ragging on Hillary after Obama has absolutely shown that he is more DLC than she is, then Democrats are just stupid and deserve another George W. Bush.
medlakeguy @ 4:
Then you must be a facist because he certainly is.
BennyP @ 6:
And have another Republican.
bcr @ 12:
Why is it okay for Obama to pander to Republicans and if Hillary doesn't want to legalize drugs, she's a DLCer? What a bunch of hypocrites.
Steve Charb @ 30:
Ever look into Lugar and Hagel's voting records? Not a pretty site.
Nonfactor @ 81:
I AM a blogger on this site. I am also the site administrator.
I can assure you that our preferences are NOT reflected in these posts. We make sure that doesn't happen.
I KNOW who I support. I know who John Amato supports. I know who Logan, Blue Gal, Scarce and Steve Benen support (and they're not the same candidate).
YOU don't know any of it. We are not endorsing any candidate.
ummm, obama needs to look at cali's deficit...15 bil and counting
ahnold has managed to outspend gray davis
and this wont win him any friends from the other side of the aisle....the repugs now all hate ahnold
Another reason not to vote for Obama. The idea that we should let drug and insurance companies have "a place at the table" in negotiations about health care is bad enough--these people have been ripping the public off for years. The insurance companies deserve nothing less than to be put out of business, and the drug companies need to be whipped into submission--nothing less.
And if Obama cannot think of hundreds of Dem and Independent candidates for his cabinet who are far better than Arnold, then he isn't fit for the position of president at all. The Rethugs need to be sent into the wilderness for 1000 years to pay for their crimes against our country. Screw the bipartisanship canard. And screw Obama if he wants to play that game.
see video: Ralph Nader says, "I Do Like Kucinich"
Even better, take him today. And would Obama consider loaning us the $14 billion to cover the state deficit Arnold's racked up out here?
Dear Mr Amato,
I have been loyal to this site for some time, but I really feel this has a real bias to it. I am disappointed in you for posting this in the way that you did. You did not have to copy the very misleading headline from ABC, but you did. Shame. If you read the above comments you will note that very few if any read the actual article. You have a very powerful voice as proven time and time again by this blog and I usually I support that. But this time, you have used that voice in a very negative way. Shame on you. I hope I don't see more of this crap in the future. If you want to endorse someone, then do it, but don't pretend to show no favor then post BS like this........
Again, I am getting angrier as I write, so I have to stop now. Shame, shame....
From a Californian's perspective;
Giving Arnold any sort of credibility is dangerous. Trust us. Obama shouldn't have even used his name. Arnold worked to kickout our former Governor, and won with only %20 of the vote.
We didn't want him then, we don't want him now. He's almost completely bankrupted our state, and instead of making medical-marijuana a taxable product and putting those *billions into the state treasury, he cut school and hospital budgets and increased funding for prisons.
Does anyone sincerely want Obama to be praising someone who does this kind of shit? Insanity.
Arnold would be great as Secretary of Education, if the budget would allow for a translator for him.
Um, what more does anyone need here? Can we get to a point where Democratic party candidates articulate Democratic party ideals, actually show up for votes that don't have anything to do with Jesus or puppies, represent the people and, uh, if you don't MIND, uh...
STOP OPENLY ENDORSING THE OTHER PARTY!!!
Criminy, I'm beginning to think that the right thing to do is become a moderate Republican and try to fix THAT party from within because THIS one is clearly fucked for good.
(not serious...Republicans are fucked for good too)
Ya gotta love primary season.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one that has been thinking there is some bias being shown around here.
To kaT
NONE of the other candidates can ever come close to being as big a DLCer as hillary is. She's been part of the leadership there
http://www.dlc.org/ndol_ka.cfm?kaid=137
See her smiling face on their website?
All hail Queen hillary
.
Hey, but that wonderful progressive libertarian Markos put a big (D)
next to Arnold's name on his site that (read the FAQ!) exists only to
elect Democrats...
Arnold called us "girlie men" twice, and once at the Republican
Convention where he got on his knees for Bush, among Arnold's other sins.
Whenever I hear a Democrat praise him, I know they're either ignorant, or a Repub in disguise...
This just goes to show how empty Obama's pretty suit is. And if
someone as shallow as Andy Sullivan and Stephanie Miller love Obama cause he's so purty, think again.
One more reason NOT to support Obama.
The Truth Hurts @ 48:
I'm sorry, but it seems a little disingenuous to all of a sudden want to hold hands. The Repulicans in power are a bunch of "bloodthirsty monsters." When the Republicans were in control of congress, they never invited any Democrat to the table, they instead relegated us to the basement (literally).
They're both NWO shills. Avoid both at all cost.
Kucinich/Dodd '08/'12
the reaction to this just proves.... that appearance is everything.. which I think is the fundamental of these campaigns.. it's just apperances... they say one thing, but c'mon.. we don't know what they really mean.
finally C&L is reporting the truth about obama instead of coddeling him the way other blogs do, no offense kos and huffpo, but they will get their little feelings hurt, since they've been pimping obama all along. Obama is kissing the republicans ass. I have not heard any repug candidate show any indication they would be willing to work with dems. They hate every thing the liberals stand for. The repugs will never give an inch to us. whether you like it or not they are the ones that invented partisanship. Remember gingrich and delay. We can't play nice with them. OBAMA IS NAIVE AND STUPID. all these people that say obama is likable don't remember that bush was so well liked, like the guy next door. see what we got. Wake up obama fanatics.
Obama's cult say that he is inspirational, stands for hope, will give the country back to the people. If you do a little research you'll find that is what Hitler preached. I'm not saying obama is evil(not yet ) But hitler gave the germans hope when they needed it, he was inspirational and was an awesome speaker. He especially inspired the youth, ring a bell.
Looks like he is sucking up to independants.
really don't want to hear crap about bipartisanship right now. If Obama truly said anything like this, he made a huge mistake. If I want a republican, I'll vote for one.
Obama is full of shit and always has been. he supported LIEberman over Lamont, obama has two LIEberman advisors on his staff. he's about 50% voting record on the crucial issues. Obama is NOT being bipartisan. he is apparently more DLC than he tries to let on.
I have no idea why anyone puts forth inflammatory lies about obie. the truth of his politics and leanings is right in front of our faces.
derrick @ 63:
whatever you're sniffing, please put it down immediately and enter a 12-step program.
What the fuck is Obama doing? If I hear that word "bipartisanship" again.....
I mean, why vote for a Democrat who seems to be more concerned about Republicans than Democrats (similar to the Clintons, who never met a Republican priority they didn't like).
This is almost as bad (though not quite) as Bill Clinton's insistence on Bush 41 being an envoy in Hillary's administration.
Then there's Kucinich thinking about Ron Paul as a running mate.
Next up on Democrat stupidity hotline, Bill Richardson will say that he'll appoint Tom Tancendro as head of the INS.
Joe Biden will appoint Joe Lieberman as envoy to the Middle East.
And Hillary will top them all by appointing Trent Lott to run the EEOC.
.
Bipartisan:

Code for having the Right wing and Left win work at keeping the bird in the air.
Too bad these miscreants don't realize the bird they're flying is diseased and dying.
Oprah-bama needs to start flapping harder...
.
A la Laugh-In, "Very interesting". Here I go again stuck in the 60's. Arnold could be the secretary of body building and bad acting. Obama is all talk and no action or soul. His favorite vote is "present".
SamDog @ 34:
please get a better look at ahhhhnold's record. all his public bluster means nothing. he fired the AG who decertified diebold machines and has built his cabinet from industry lobbyists.
Sorry Senator, but we are waaaaay past the point of bipartisanship. It's time to take a sledge-hammer to corporate fascism in this country.
The repukes declared war on the american people under George the Imbecile; and it's time to take the "people's" country back! Anything else is too little and too late! And I don't have (or feel the need) to discuss it with the miscreants who got us into this mess.
Oh my God.
I would definitely no longer consider voting for EDWARDS.
Arnold has damaged many seriously injured workers in California by his SB899 workers comp reform that benefited everyone in the equation at the expense of the permanently disabled workers in California. With the State Compensation Insurance Fund riddled with so many scandals and inside corruptions; particularly by a board member that was appointed by Arnold Governator. And He wanted to model Workers Comp Reform to his proposed California Health Care Reform.
For someone who belongs in the Republican Party that are suppose to be PRO-LIFE; he has shown himself different. As a matter of fact it was publiciazed in California Newspapers that He is Pro-death penalty and has even began to expand facility for this purpose; without the public knowing until it was discovered by whistleblowers.
Arnold has shown that he is an apponent of many working californian; from Service Workers to Teachers; Nurses to doctors; attorneys and civil rights; I would definitely not go there.
He continue to veto any change to his workers comp reform that has even cut the benefits by additional average of 70% of those injured workers benefit from an already low benefit pre-reform.
Although Court has determine that the rating were not based on "empirical data" and court declare that the disability rating standards are illegal; Arnold continue to veto any changes to correct the mistakes his appointed people made to the workers comp reform.
He is clearly not for the working Californians in his tenure but for corporate interest.
Californian @ 112:
I meant to say OBAMA...........not EDWARDS ( I appologise John Edwards)
This is the kind of POLITICAL massaging that I don't particularly like.
Obama gets too blind-sighted by opportunist that fail to see some other ramification of his action. If there are things he does not agree with; why not consider someone that has a strong beliefs and the will to protect our environment but do not have all these negative baggage that come along with.
Is UNITED STATE that dry when it comes to finding the best appointment? This is what I don't like about Obama. His thought processes are too hasty, eager to say anything that he thinks would advance his position closer to Presidency.
This was careless......... He should have just focus on issues and make clear on how to fix the issues we face in our nation today. His ambition is going ahead of his head. Is that what we really want as a President?
This is almost as bad as Bush endorsing Mushimushi of Pakistan as a great leader and a friend without considering the character behind the suit.
I don't know anymore; there is no more standard of excellence.....it's all about business; money, ambitions. If these are the less quality people we are willing to elect as President of United State; then we shouldn't expect the WORLD to genuinely respect AMERICA; the respect is only going to be so long as USA remain the largest economy in the WORLD. And the way we choose our President and elected officials; I would not be surprise if CHINA or other nation will go competitively further ahead of our nation.
Arnold has just sued the Bush Admin. over emission standards. Wow I never really had anything against C & L, but this is a little biased. Arnold is a RINO to me and might one day switch his party. I dont think there is anything wrong with what he said. I dnt like sites that attack Dems, even Hillary. C&L wont be on my history page anymore and Dems weaken themselves with baby politics like this. No wonder we have no power even with a majority house and senate.
Hey californian, you mispelled opponent, no "a" in there buddy. I say this because you went out of your way to correct your Obama stance. Obama08...never fade
That's it.. between Ahnold and Oprah, the Obama campaign has officially become a total joke.
Nicolle Bell, What about posting how Arnold is taking on the administration and is currently going to sue over emissions. All this fear of Republicans is stupid. There are (and maybe i can count all of them on one hand) some RINO's (republican in name only) out there that actually know what they are talking about. They are still American arent they? Obama08...
Most of you have got this wrong...Arnold is not the enemy! Bush and the neocons are the enemy and have gone a long way towards destroying the country we all love. Arnold in the mean time has been a great proponent of the environment and has pushed legislation that has turned the right wing in California against him. Not all Gop'ers are bad and not all Dems are good. Let's save our ammo for the neocons who truly deserve to be jailed, tarred and feathered.
Zenrage, the joke is when you are going to take the current President's daddy, (who Hill loves to chastise) around the world with your husband and fix ALL the things his son messed up. And why are we listening to Bill when it comes to Hill? Isnt he going to be a little biased? Why is her mom on TV ads for her? Of course they are going to support her. Can anyone other than Bill stump for Hill? Thats the joke to me. Can you say conflict of interest? Hillary wouldnt be a candidate id her husband wasnt Bill Clinton. Obama is self made...
Obama08...
I have been shouting from the rooftops that I heard Obama on one of the talking head shows say he would have voted to confirm John Roberts had he had the chance. No equivocation. No protesting that it was a hypothetical.
This is a guy who thinks he is gonna get into the corporate snakepit and not get bitten. We are supposed to hope that he does some nebulous good for us all.
One guy with a shot at this thing is out there fighting - that's John Edwards. He forced HC and BO to come up with their own (vastly inferior) healthcare plans by putting out his own. Think they would have otherwise?
He is running on public financing - while HC and BO are scooping up the corporate cash. Is it any wonder they aren't willing to take them on? Listen to his stump speech. Would BO or HC dare to say the things he does?
Sometimes I despair for my fellow Democrats.
UnEasyOne, you cant go on a poverty tour and get a $400 haircut. $400 pays my rent for a month and is also a child support payment to me. Its about 20% of my monthly take home. I wouldnt expect anyone to take me serious.
Robert @ 122:
How much do you think Bush spends on his suits - and what does that really have to do with anything? FDR and JFK were rich as hell too.
A poor man or woman has no chance of being elected today. JE's dad was a mailman. He didn't grow up rich - he earned every penny of his money - most of it sticking it to big corporations to help little guys like me and you.
FDR and JFK didn't have to be poor to help and support poor people. How many of the candidates give a crap about poor people at all? Except for John, thay sure aren't talking about em.
I ain't denying that $400 is a helluva a lot more than I would pay for a haircut. (My wife cuts it for free.) But I didn't earn 50 million bucks either.
Haven't you wondered why we don't know what Romney's shoes cost? Or Thompson's wardrobe? Or Hillary's pantsuits? It's because there is nobody the rich fear more than Edwards - and nobody they would rather smear.
I wouldn't care if the man dressed like Liberace and rode a unicycle. It is his platform that I care about. How can we expect the other rich candidates to represent poor folks after the election if they aren't even paying attention to them now?
Arnold has only one salvation -- his democratic wife, Maria Shriver!
Great move from Obama. We need to be as true to our beliefs in diversity as we criticism the right for. Unite the country instead of dividing from the left instead of from the right. Arnold has done a great bid flip flop on climate change. But I don't care. He is behind it now and could lead an effort. We won't get real climate change results without some folks on the right. Maybe some folks on the right will listen to arnold, because they certainly aren't listening to lefties.
I'm liking Obama more and more these days. (unfortunately it doesn't matter because by the time I get a chance to vote, it will all be over.)
Arnold as Ambassador to Israel?
Robert @ 122:
There are two types of rich people. Folks like FDR, the Kennedy's and John Edwards, who have some humility in the face of their wealth, and try to help others through their deeds and actions. They have often been the best friends of working americans.
The other group consists of wealthy people like the Bushies. Arrogant, lying, conniving, criminals; who through their sense of entitlement think it is their duty to use their wealth and power to screw everyone they can, in order to satisfy their insatiable greed. Laws don't apply to them, the sun rises and sets around them (and their cronies), the common good is abhorrent to their interests, and if 1000 innocent people die so that they can increase the return on their portfoilio's; well, they are only little people anyway! They are the scum of the earth.
Since some "rich person" is going to be elected in 2008 to the presidency, lets make sure it is someone from the FDR/John Edwards mold.
And Robert, how much do you think those repukes and other dems pay for their upscale dinners and other luxuries? Four hundred bucks to them, is like $5 dollars to most of us. This is just a GOP talking point, to take people's attention away from the real lying hypocrites - the GOP.
This is what turned me off from Obama early on. With all this bipartisan talk, he seems all too willing to shake hands with the opposition and call it even and move forward from that point on. Except the Republicans have invaded deep into our territory and all these bipartisan idiots will do is cede way too much ground. All in the name of "getting along" and "healing the nation."
The only lesson the Rs will learn from it is that they can push more and more and there'll be absolutely no pushback of any consequence.
Fuck that.
Him?

i think this blog should stick to attacking Fox News and the very far right media instead of doing posts like this. trade unions are not as good for society as they say they are, read a basic macroeconomics textbook to find out more.
equilibrio @ 5:
I don't know if you live in CA, but I do. A lot of us were pretty pissed off at the FEDS when they raided all the medical marijuana joints. The Gov actually has no choice; even if he allows the sale of MM, the feds move in and claim that their authority supersedes that of the local/state government. This is much like the garbage going on between CA, VT and other states vs. the EPA. FYI, the EPA is stating that the state govt's decision to drastically increase emissions standards is not something those govt's have the authority to do. Instead, they say, this is a federal matter. Perhaps, friend, you should get your ducks in a row before squawking on the horn.
Actually, Obama said something quite more subtle. Something bloggers choose to ignore. Watch the Obama-Schwarzenegger video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di8uTjdgSE8
Arnold is as useless as his language skills.
Arnold is good in sports, good in acting and a very good leader.
Nonfactor @ 51:
You can keep telling people to actually read the article over and over again all you want, but most of these passionate closed-minded repub haters aren't going to listen to you or the article. They are just looking for a catchy headline to get all pissy about and make ignorant remarks over how pissed off they are about something that never happened.
I'll say what nonfactor has mentioned 40 times already, even though the next comment by the time this gets posted will probably be somebody else pissed off at Barrack for asking AS to be his running mate.
BARRACK NEVER SAID HE WOULD APOINT ARNOLD TO ANYTHING. HE ONLY COMMENTED ON THE FACT THAT HE HAS TAKEN LEADERSHIP ON SOME DIFFICULT ISSUES!!!
I mean DAMN! The Spin Factor on this site is worse than FoxNews. You have all become what you hate about the other side.
equilibrio @ 5:
WRONG
truthiness @ 136:
Uh you might want to apologise to C&L for that crack. Seems you're the one who isn't looking into the whole story. A quick read of the abc news article yielded this:
“It’s premature for me to start announcing my cabinet. I mean, I’m pretty confident. but I’m not all that confident. We still got a long way to go,” Obama said.
But then the GOP names started to flow
Sen. Dick Lugar:...
Sen. Chuck Hagel: ...
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger: ..."
miss_kitty @ 138:
you're leaving out the fact that he said he doesn't agree with them on alot of issues and he said that he respects some of their stands. why can't you have a certain level of respect for someone who you disagree with? and he never said anything about appointments to cabinet positions. let's not be selective in facts to make points. we leave that to the other side to spoon feed their audience. we like to think of ourselves as the critical thinkers so quote the whole thing and let people make up their own minds on the subject.
It's who will promise the C F R the most time Ba-by . I'll promise you Arnold and raise Hillary's Joe Lieberman .....with David Gergen . OK Obama , I'll re raise your Gergen with continuing the occupation of Iraq for at least 50 years . DAMNNNN hilla , I'll call your occupation with Invading Iran AND over throwing their government and I'll throw in a couple fine Persian rugs.
Sorry Obama , I already promise the Council on Foreign Relations Iran AND AND Venezuela , they really like the fishing there . Damnnnn Hilla ....take it ,the presidency is YOURS , but I want tickets to the next Bilderberg meeting and a call when Bills out of town . you got it BRO , Fashizell !
Oh, that's fantastic Obama.
But, tell me. Why are we, the Democrats, always reaching out our hands to gesture that we will work together with the republicans? Why, is it, that we don't hear this from them?
Is it because the Democrats are willing to share the power and the republicans want all the power for themselves?
I know that this sounds good, but Obama, isn't there any other republican that will work with the democrats better?
What does Oprah say?
BennyP @ 6:
That is so 2000. Vote Bloomberg!
What would Oprah do, girlyman?
Nicole Belle @ 76:
I've noticed the Hillary favoritism too -- especially down the stretch.
There is a way of reporting a story like this and then there is a way of slanting it in such a way that it helps make up the mind of the reader before they even get to formulate their own opinion. Read the first three sentences... if I was an unbias reader, I'd already be crinkling my nose about Obama and his consideration of Arnold because the tone is already set. It's a slimey way of covering this 'news'.
You can say all you want, but C&L has clearly become a Hillary backer no matter what the 'official' stance is.
I would be married if it were not for this weight lifter from Austria. Schwarzenegger, after running for Governor as "gay-friendly" has twice vetoed gay marriage in California. Twice our elected representatives have passed gay marriage, and twice Schwarzenegger has vetoed it. I'm glad he came to America and took advantage of the opportunities and freedoms we provide, but sorry that he then denied the freedom to marry to millions of Californians. And now Obama would consider Schwarzenegger for his cabinet?! After Obama shared the stage with that arch-homophobe McClurkin?! What else will Obama do to offend gay people?
Might want to add this to your post
UPDATE: This story has since been debunked.

You can't be bipartisan with people who want to take us to war, or keep us at war, for their own personal gain, people who would deprive seniors of their Social Security, people who tax the poor and middle class to benefit the rich, cut taxes for the wealthy at the expense of the poor and middle class, take away our Constitutional rights willy nilly, etc., etc.
