Rudy goes for the terror votes

The Bhutto assassination has really turned on Giuliani's camp with a Kristol like fever for fear, terror and more war.

That sure sounds like the voice over guy for FOX News, doesn't it?...TPM

Rudy Giuliani has a new ad in New Hampshire and Florida, the only two January states left that he's contesting. The ad's message is simple, and shows just how blatant the Rudy campaign has become in their appeals to fear — that if we don't vote for Rudy, we'll be vulnerable to Osama Bin Laden, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the people who assassinated Benazir Bhutto, and every other radical Muslim villain out there...read on

And why isn't Rudy criticizing Bush for not getting Osama? Is he afraid Condi might diss him too?

How pathetic. How does being the mayor for a few years qualify him to be president? It doesn't. He wasn't tested. He's not a leader. He shouldn't be polluting our airwaves with this filth. If it wasn't for Rupert Murdoch, Rudy would've disappeared into oblivion a long time ago (where people that awful deserve to be). Which brings me to another awful and under qualified candidate: Hilary Clinton. A senator for one term, elected with pharmaceutical money, and before that she was the wife of a president for 8 years. That's not leadership, that's not president worthy, there's no real support behind her. Hilary Clinton and Rudy Guilini's presidential runs are fabrications of the media. I would love to hear from someone who disagrees.

The headshot of Giuliani at the end of that ad might look more appropriate with one of those square little Charlie Chaplin mustaches, don't you think?

Where are the hungry wolves? Where is the little girl playing with a daisy? How can you have a panic with fear ad without wolves or little girls and daisies?

I'm in Fla and the only Rudy ads I have seen are on fox news cable channel. Haven't seen this one on tv yet.

I heard one of McCain's people talking this morning about terrorism being first on the minds of Americans. I would counter that by saying those living in fear of terrorism have weak or no minds.

Sure keep the fear factor going and hopefully no one will crawl out from under their beds and see the reality of the mess our country has become.

This is the vote Rudys going after

Quote: "The leading religion in America is not evangelical Christianity, it is the worship of unearned riches, and its golden rule is the belief that is is possible to get something for nothing. Its holy shrines are Las Vegas and Wall Street. (And, by the way, has anybody heard the evangelical Christians complain about Las Vegas? They complain about a lot of things, but are themselves among the greatest believers in unearned riches -- given their preference for prayer over earnest effort in the service of solving life's problems.)"

I still have not been able to make the connection between Rudy and safety. The thought of the man wandering around NYC because he had foolishly placed his disaster command center in the building that was attacked, despite the fact that it was essentially the only terrorist target in the that city which was attacked previously, twice, does not really give me a safe and warm feeling. I tend to not get an inclination that this man is anything but empty rhetoric. He had a chance to prove how good he was at safety and it didn't really work all that well. I don't see why anyone would want to expand the failures in one city to be a national experience.

If Rudy is an expert on safety, the Mayor of New Orleans must also be considered an expert on flood planning.

Voting Republican to be safer from terrorism makes about as much sense as congratulating Brownie after his disastrous handling of Katrina.

It was on the watch of this Republican President that the US suffered the worst attack in history, thousands of Americans have been killed and injured in a war based on a lie, and the people of New Orleans were left to drown and starve while Brownie was checking his make up. Let’s not even add the fact that thousands of Americans are losing their homes and the US dollar is now worth less than the Canadian dollar. So another Republican should be elected President because… what exactly? To destroy what’s left of our country?

What a terrible ad. How awful. How despicable. I know I'm feeding into conspiracy theories here, but the fact of the matter is that any terrorist attack at all (except for the bombing of, or burning of abortion clinics) is going to help Rudy. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the republican party manufactured an attack just to give Rudy a boost. It wouldn't surprise me at all of Fox News were to over-hype any terrorist violence at all in order to give Rudy a boost.

Did you catch Rudy's latest rhetorical insanity?

"I think it wouldn’t be unfair to describe us as the 9/11 generation"

That’s right, Rudy thinks that the entire current population should be defined by a single, horrible day that represents both the hatred of a small tribe of barbarous extremists, and the woeful unpreparedness of an incompetent and illegitimate administration.

Shadowgm's picture

9/11 is the day America learned to be afraid. And not just prudently alarmed, I mean gibbering, mindless fear, of which Islamophobia is just the tip of the iceberg. We're afraid of blinking lights, of men praying in an airport terminal, of piles of flour and chalk arrows. A cute but otherwise distracted MIT student draws an armed response for wearing a blinky-light badge on her hoody, and the Stasi police have the gall to remark that she was lucky she wasn't shot dead in the middle of the airport concourse (outside the security line), because, you know, It Could Have Been So Much Worse.

But instead of looking to those advocating dialogue and means of depriving terrorism of its breeding grounds, far too much of the country is looking to fake heroes like Rudy Giuliani, whose idea of security was to place the city's emergency command center within the WTC complex ... because he wanted it within walking distance. We're actually giving folks waving the Jesus flag credence, as if blathering about this being a war of religious ideologies is going to do anything but do the enemy's recruiting for them.

I was in the newsroom the morning of 9/11, and I honestly don't remember a damned thing Rudy said. Not even a memorable quote. Yet he's campaigning on the platform of having been tested (which, perhaps, also strikes a familiar chord amongst evangelicals as well as guano loco nationalists) at the same time he's trying to be the new Mr. My Pet Goat.

On a tangent, Rice's comment about 'looking at the facts' is like saying '9 out of 10 dentists surveyed recommend x gum for their patients who chew gum' - over 50 countries joined in the effort? That makes our continued stalemate in Iraq even more depressing - the combined might of 50 nations can't pacify Iraq. Our alliances haven't found Osama bin Laden. 2007 was the deadliest year for our troops in Iraq since we began this debacle.

"We're not go-it-alone," is about as meaningful as, "We're not about stay the course," and all of the other jingoistic slogans trotted out to inure us to the fact that our soldiers are dying at an amazing rate or that we haven't achieved any of our goals in Iraq.

In fact, this 'tough it out' strategy is also born out of fear - fear of being held responsible. Fear of acknowledging that we've been getting our arses spanked for four years running because we thought we could 'clear, hold, and build' our way to raping Iraq for her oil reserves. We don't negotiate because we fear revealing our weaknesses - and why, exactly, are we looking to Condi Rice for effective diplomacy, when she completely fumbled the response to the al-Qaeda threat in the first place? (Oh, yes, it wasn't 'framed' properly, or it was 'just a historical document'.)

We need leadership, and we need something other than a retread of Bush policies, or even Bush Lite.

This isn't just Rudy, it's a meme that's been going around for a while: 'I'm a post 9/11 person,' ostensibly meant to describe the claimant as someone whose eyes are open to the harsh, new reality of a world where terrorists were allowed can strike us here at home.

To which my usual rebuttal is, "Are you a post-7/20 person, or a pre-7/20 person? What about a post-12/7 person? A post-11/23 person?"

Gibbering fear. Ye gods, this is the nation that birthed the greatest generation? Lasted through a Great Depression and the Dust Bowl? Landed a man on the moon? This is the depth of our national resolve, to stand there and cry, 'Waaaaaaaah! Mr. Rudy, that bad man blew up our skyscraper! Waaaaaah!"

Thanks Jersey for even having the courage to watch the vid. That was an edited video that highlighted her Osama comment. The rest of the interview can be found on YouTube, but Frost (Host) never attempts to correct her or ask for clarification. The notion that she could have mispoken about such an important and literally life and death topic, is evidence of how far our expectations and standards have fallen after listening to BushBaby try to speak for 7 years now.

She seemed pretty clear and sure of what she was saying to me. Whether that's "proof," that he was killed is very debatable. Which is why it's telling that EVERYBODY seems to be ignoring this.
Just like they ignore the source of the Put Options on UA and AA, Building 7, the ISI $ wired to Atta etc. etc.

Speaking of Thin evidence. I remember the night of 9/11 how the MSM was already reporting that OBL was behind it. Sorta like how Mushy was ready to immediately blame the Taliban for Bhutto's assassination.

The evidence is so thin that OBL was behind 9/11, that the FBI didn't even bother to specifically cite it in the alleged crimes that he's wanted for: http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/topten/fugitives/laden.htm

If we can't challenge the "official story," then we're basically telling people like Rudy to keep scaring us.
