This video, put together by a Romney supporter (who just has to be banging his head against the wall right now watching McCain) kinda makes you wonder exactly what McCain thinks he's bringing to the table that merits the "suspension" of his campaign.

BARTIROMO: Sen. McCain, has Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke cut interest rates aggressively enough?

Has Ben Bernanke cut interests rates aggressively enough?

McCAIN: I'm not...I'm not...I don't have that kind of expertise to know exactly whether he has cut interest rates suffiently or not. I'm glad that whenever they cut interest rates. I wish interest rates were zero.

Um, huh? Interest rates at ZERO???? Oh yeah, this is the guy I want negotiating the bailout. 'Course, it might help if he bothered to read the Paulson plan.

I think Cindy McCain should loan the government $100 billion of the money it needs. According to Norm Coleman she could stand to make 1 to 2 billion dollars on the investment...

Captain Bitter Angry Kangaroo's picture

Course, it might help if he bothered to read the Paulson plan.

That is why he suspended his campaign. so that he could read the plan. It is three pages long. He certainly does not have time to campaign and read at the same time. Jeez.

Sigh's picture

Interest rates at zero? That's hysterical. He wants a purely socialized, non-profit financial credit system. Who knew? He converted in the prison camp!

Left&Left's picture

Whatever McKeating thief suggests, do the fucking opposite. This honorless coward is manipulating the present crisis because he is afraid to debate Obama....period.

What would Zeus do?'s picture

McCain's "campaign suspension" is nothing more than a smokescreen so McCain can cut and run from the debates. McCain is all for staying the course in Iraq where servicemen are asked to make sacrifices for the good of the nation but when he has to put his butt on the line he tucks his tail and slinks away. Whatever McCain might have been in the past, it's clear that now he's neither brave nor principled.

Nada's picture

Read it? Why would he do that? His owners/lobbyists will tell him what he should think after they read it. Meanwhile it gives him more time to take another nap.

So when Obama (God willing) wins the White House and Dems increase their numbers in Congress, is C&L just going to shut down?

Did he consult with Palin before giving that "zero interest rate" answer? It sounds exactly like something she would say.

Okay, now today he is an economics genius? Nope. Today he is the professional grandstanding, spotlight grabbing, stunt pulling, debate ducking, only candidate the republicans have, and I'm guessing they are having a major case of buyers remorse.

That's what I was wondering when I heard about McCain's suspending his campaign crap. Here's a guy with more houses then he can supposedly count, a fleet of cars and beer baroness wife, and I recall him famously saying this year that he does not know anything about economics. He's gonna be a real big help, I'm sure. Ugh. If he doesn't show up for the debate I'm going to be so pissed as ever since him and Obama secured the nominations I've been so excited about the debates as it's one place I'm certain the whole McCain facade will finally crumble, Obama will eat him for breakfast. And Biden and Palin? Laff. She's gonna have her ass handed to her on a plate. McCain camp clearly realizes this and is totally using this crap as an excuse to bail out. Take it from someone who knows alot about opportunistic excuse making. I don't understand why this isn't a bigger deal then it is.

Low interest rates were a huge contributor to this mess we are in right now. Of course McEconomy has no idea when is comes to economics. Maybe he should have taken this crash course in how the economy works before now. Like maybe when he actually had some time. Like maybe in July or August. Or maybe 15-20 years ago. Or maybe when he was in the Navel Academy. But I digress. Maybe McShowMetheMoney should have studied up on the economy before a couple days before the most important debate of his life. Do you see why voting for a guy who finished 494 out of 498 is not such a good idea?

No, no, palin's going to cover the economic front in a palin-mccain administration.

from a post at andrew sullivan's blog (nice to be reminded that all republicans aren't freepers):

pastor muthee: The second area whereby God wants us, wants to penetrate in our society is in the economic area. The Bible says that the wealth of the wicked is stored up for the righteous. It's high time that we have top Christian businessmen, businesswomen, bankers, you know, who are men and women of integrity running the economics of our nations. That's what we are waiting for. That's part and parcel of transformation. If you look at the -- you know -- if you look at the Israelites, that's how they work. And that's how they are, even today.

video of muthee making this statement, with palin in attendance, is here: http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/palin-muthe...

St. McCain is trying to use the crisis for political gain. He won't contribute anything to the crafting of the bailout bill. But what he will do is swoop in at the 23rd hour and then take credit for helping "save" America from a reccession.

Wild Weasel's picture

McCain admits that the economy is not his strong suit.

McCain has been AWOL in Congress during his 25 years on matters of the economy.

NOW McCain wants to cancel Presidential debates and come back to D.C. and save the economy? I don't think so. He's probably a nice guy, but deeper thinkers are working on this problem.

fry Says:

I rather doubt that an American Nirvana will come into existence on January 20th 2009. While it would be nice to finally be able to tune out politics for a while, that really isn't possible. Unless and until the GOP finally cleans house and drives the whackos out of power, it'll always be sniffing around looking for a way to weasel back into power. Also, we've seen that even the Democratic party is riddled with DINOs (e.g., Bush-Dog Dems) whose interests are more closely aligned with the GOP than the Democratic Party. I think we've all seen what happens if we take our eyes off the country and aberrations like the Shrub will always be lurking out there.

Palin once blessed to be free from ‘witchcraft’

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A grainy YouTube video surfaced Wednesday showing Sarah Palin being blessed in her hometown church three years ago by a Kenyan pastor who prayed for protection from “witchcraft” as she prepared to seek higher office.

The video shows Palin standing before Bishop Thomas Muthee in the pulpit of the Wasilla Assembly of God church, holding her hands open as he asked Jesus Christ to keep her safe from “every form of witchcraft.”

“Come on, talk to God about this woman. We declare, save her from Satan,” Muthee said as two attendants placed their hands on Palin’s shoulders. “Make her way my God. Bring finances her way even for the campaign in the name of Jesus. … Use her to turn this nation the other way around.”

Well, the Torah makes usury a capital offense... that didn't seem to stop the Rothschilds, Goldmans, et al.

The key trick is to say that "interest" is not the same as "usury." And thus, it is A-OK.

Jews, Christians and Muslims seem to be very adept at figuring out which parts should be taking literally from their respective ruling texts and which other "impractical" (as in they interfere with making money) sections can be conveniently subdued.

While McSame is busy rescuing the domestic economy, Sarah Palin is stepping into the foreign policy breech to make sure things go well there, and to demonstrate her chops:

"I believe that… a surge in Afghanistan also will lead us to victory there as it has proven to have done in Iraq. And as I say, Katie, that we cannot afford to retreat, to withdraw in Iraq. That's not gonna get us any better off in Afghanistan either."

So, notwithstanding that we now apparently have "victory" in Iraq, we cannot leave. ROTFLMAO!

Uh, somebody needs to hip her to this:

Iraq and the United States have agreed on a date for the departure of all American troops as part of a broader security pact they are negotiating, the Iraqi prime minister, Nuri Kamal al-Maliki, said Monday.

There is actually an agreement concluded between the two parties over the definite date, which is 2011, to end any foreign presence on Iraqi soil," Maliki said.

Pakistan Fires On US Recon Helicopters As Tensions Mount

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
KABUL, Afghanistan — Pakistani troops fired at American reconnaissance helicopters patrolling the Afghan-Pakistan border Thursday, heightening tensions as the U.S. steps up cross-border operations in a region known as a haven for Taliban and al-Qaida militants.

Two American OH-58 reconnaissance helicopters, known as Kiowas, were on a routine afternoon patrol in the eastern province of Khost when they received small arms fire from a Pakistani border post, said Tech Sgt. Kevin Wallace, a U.S. military spokesman. There was no damage to aircraft or crew, officials said.

"They did not cross the border and they did not fire back," Wallace said.

The Pakistani military disputed that assertion, saying its troops fired warning shots when the two helicopters crossed over the border _ and that the U.S. helicopters fired back.

"When the helicopters passed over our border post and were well within Paskitani territory, own security forces fires anticipatory warning shots. On this, the helicopters returned fire and flew back," a Pakistani military statement said.

The Pakistani military said the matter was "being resolved" in consultations between the army and the NATO force in Afghanistan. A NATO statement said the militaries were "working together to resolve the matter."

AMY GOODMAN: So why is Barack Obama giving so much play to the Clintons? I mean, Hillary Clinton will be speaking on Tuesday. President Clinton will be speaking on Wednesday. Her name will be entered. There will be the vote. It’s as if it’s a Clinton convention.

RICK MACARTHUR: Well, now we’re getting into tactics. We’re getting away from some of the other things I’m talking about. And tactically, I think this is very stupid on the part of Obama. And I seem to be the only person besides Dick Morris, Bill Clinton’s former adviser, who’s saying this. The idea—in fact, Dick Morris wrote a very funny piece the other day, saying—on his blog, saying that if Clinton—excuse me, if Obama can’t stand up to the Clintons, how can he stand up to President Putin of Russia? I would say that that’s exactly right, that he has given way too much air time to the Clintons and that Hillary Clinton has not conceded. This is another central part of the thesis of my book, which is that this is a factional fight within the Democratic Party. It’s not an ideological fight, it’s a fight over power. There is very little difference between Obama and Clinton on the big issues of the day. And the Clintons are still running. Hillary Clinton is hoping very much that Obama will lose and that she can present herself in 2012 on the “I told you so” ticket. Now, you can make—you could say that—

The election is all but over.

Obama has won in landslide. Now the focus by the McCain team and conservatives all around, is on who to blame for their abject failures. The shots have already been fired. The conservatives are already positioning themselves on their strategy to defeat Obama and democrat-led Congress or Senate.

Never write these crooks off too soon.

Probably a long shot at this late stage but ...

John McSame 'suddenly' realizes he is not 'well enough' to continue his campaign (like the more we got to see him the bat shit crazy he looks) - he falls on his sword and backs out. Mittens Romney comes in to save the day - with bipartisanan message and highly effective spin on his economic credentials. The 'i won't vote for magic underpants' brigade are happy with Sarah Palin keeping him in place on the fundie side so will happily fall in line.

Unbelievably, this gives the repukes a realistic shot at the presidency ....

Do any of you know where this money is going to come from?? The Federal Reserve is going to loan the money to the government, by typing some numbers in a computer. That money will then be owed by ALL OF US to the Federal Reserve. WHY does our government (of the people, for the people, by the people!) instead not create the money as credit, rather than a debt to be repaid? WHY are we paying the Federal Reserve? Money is a thing we all need, why is the use of it a cost we pay to other human beings? The Fed creates the money OUT OF NOTHING and we spend our lives repaying it AT INTEREST! Its ludicrous!

If anything I've said is news to you, you need to watch Money As Debt. You are being lied to. Wake up.

dBa's picture

Palin kind of knows where the money is going to come from:

"Ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy– Oh, it’s got to be about job creation too. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions."

The right way would be for a "personal responsibility" conservative such as himself to take responsibility for his part of the collapse with his legislative record the past 26 years, admit again as he has done before that he doesn't know much about the economy, and withdraw his candidacy for the good of the nation.

Staying far away from the White House is how McKeating could help solve the financial crisis.

First, McBoob should figure out how many cars and homes he has before he tries to apply his "expertise" to the financial crisis. He has no idea what's going on in his own household, and now he wants the American people to trust him with 700 billion dollars of their money? This is either an excuse to scuttle the vice-presidential debate, or McBoob realized Friday's debate was scheduled to take place during nap-time.

John McCain is mentally ill. I believe he has Alzheimer's. He can't keep his mind straight and doesn't deliver a consistent message. He bounces around from idea to idea and he's impossible to follow in a straight line. He is no doubt suffering from some sort of mental erosion related to being a 72-year old tortured war veteran. For this and many other reasons, if he is elected we are in grave danger...

"How Is John McCain Going To Help Solve The Financial Crisis?"

Hopefully by preventing assholes like this from continuing to erode the economy in his personal quest for power ...

We’ve just been alerted that despite House Democrats relenting on extending bans on offshore drilling and oil shale in the continuing resolution (CR) appropriations bill, Democrat Senate Leader Harry Reid has decided to sneak an extension of the oil shale ban through as Congress fights over the financial bailout. Oil shale in America’s West is estimated to hold be between 800 billion and 2 trillion barrels of oil — that is more than three times the proven oil reserves in Saudi Arabia alone.

Here is the text of Reid’s proposed new ban on oil shale, that he is trying to add as an amendment to the CR or move seperately as a “stimulus” package, or we should say an anti-stimulus package if this is included.

Sec 1602 continues ban on oil shale. The language follows:

SEC. 1602. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, including section 152 of division A of H.R. 2638 (110th Congress), the Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act, 2009, the terms and conditions contained in section 433 of division F of Public Law 110–161 shall remain in effect for the 19 fiscal year ending September 30, 2009.

It would be an insult to all Americans if Senate Democrats worked to bailout Wall Street while damaging our future prosperity by banning development of vast energy reserves in oil shale.

Americans for Prosperity responds:

“Only in Harry Reid’s Washington could a ban on energy production and the thousands of manufacturing jobs it would create be considered an ‘economic stimulus.’

“Somebody needs to ask Harry Reid how blocking private companies from creating good jobs and lowering the cost of energy for millions of American families will do anything to get our economy back on track. No wonder Congressional approval levels are at historic lows and we find ourselves in this economic situation.

“Every Senator who truly cares about an economic recovery should tell Harry Reid to remove this cynical provision from his so-called ‘economic stimulus’ bill immediately, and if he refuses to do so, they should vote against this bill.”

An economy whose interest rates have reached zero is one that has flatlined. Recent example: Japan in the 1990's. Consumers and firms there were so scared of the future that niether wanted to borrow money, even at negative real interest rates, to buy or invest. Then again a McCain economy would probably achieve that....
