This is long overdue. Our media has been propping up Donald Trump for ratings ever since he announced he was running for President, and it's about time someone called them out for their part in that while feigning ignorance about how we got here.

Bill Maher did exactly that on this Friday's Real Time and took Meet the Press host Chuck Todd to task for the way he opened up his show earlier that day while covering the recent stupidity between Trump and Ted Cruz over their wives.

Maher: The Media Bemoans How Silly the Election Has Gotten… But It’s Their Fault!:

Bill Maher went on a rant against the media tonight over its insane coverage of the 2016 election and its seeming lack of self-awareness on the matter.

Maher showed a clip of Chuck Todd today bemoaning how the election got to such a low point. Maher sarcastically cried, “How?! Who’s talking about this? I don’t know how this happened!”

He said there is a “complete lack of self-awareness on the part of the press that they are the problem,” calling for going back to when the news business wasn’t interested in the bottom dollar.

Maher is exactly right. Ever since they merged the news and entertainment divisions at these media companies and started forcing them to care about making a profit over giving accurate information to their viewers, what passes for "news" in the United States has gone straight down the toilet. Here are a few more of his comments on that.

MAHER: They say get the money out of politics. You've got to get the money out of the news business, like it used to be.

You know, it used to be a loss leader, the news division. It didn't always used to be this way. CBS didn't care if they made money from Walter Cronkite. That's what the Beverly Hillbillies were for.
