In an age where it seems pop music is vapid and lacking any inventiveness, it's not uncommon to read many an article claiming there are no modern starts to look up to.
Of course, such write-ups are full of cynicism and exaggeration. I was out running errands today in the car my wife usually drives. The new Annie Clark aka St. Vincent album, MASSEDUCATION, was in the CD player. Ms. Clark is clever, inventive and always makes a statement even if it may be subtle. She's a guitar hero in an Adrian Belew & Carlos Alomar kinda style too.
