Speaking as a woman writer and film-maker, I laugh and scream simultaneously when I hear national publications imply that women can't write and women can't make films.

More of the same 'we can't let perfect be the enemy of good' BS: U.S. pushes for compromise in Copenhagen climate talks - http://www.grist.org/article/2009-11-11-u.s.-...
Clinton reiterated U.S. support for a fund aimed at helping developing countries reduce emissions, but gave no details.
“We are prepared to support a Global Climate Fund that will support adaptation and mitigation efforts and a matching entity to help developing countries match needs with available resources,” she said.
In response to this and the healthcare bill...its not good to begin with....so its far from 'perfect'...

Jim Hightower | Real Recovery Is Easy to Spell: J-O-B-S - http://www.truthout.org/topstories/111109vh02
The recession is over! The economy is growing! The Dow Jones is above 10,000! Bankers are pocketing profits and fat bonuses! Happy days are here again! Unless, of course, you're just a regular working stiff struggling with falling income and rising unemployment -- and sensing that your family's grip on middle-class life is steadily slipping away. Welcome to America's tinkle-down economy.
The latest job numbers mock the smiley-faced claims of economists and polticos that the Great Recession is over: -- 10.2 percent of America's workforce is officially unemployed -- nearly 16 million people. -- Another 15 million people are either so discouraged by their fruitless job search that they've quit looking, or they've had to settle for part-time jobs when they want and need full-time employment.
Add the discouraged and underemployed to the number of the officially unemployed, and the percentage of our people who can't find the work they need rises to 17.5 percent -- one out of every six workers. -- More than a third of the officially unemployed have been jobless for more than half a year -- a new record for long-term joblessness.---
We can't let bad become the enemy of good: Pharma Deal With White House on Course to Net Industry Billions - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/11/phar...
The deal struck between the pharmaceutical lobby, the White House and Senate Democrats has drastically improved Big Pharma's expected profits, a private industry report finds. IMS Health, a company that supplies the pharmaceutical companies with sales data, predicts that new health reform legislation -- combined with a projected upswing in the economy -- will result in a net gain of more than $137 billion in total market sales over the next four years.
The new assessment was contained in a document obtained by the Huffington Post.
No cure for stupid: West Virginia politicians vow to speak in single, pro-coal voice - http://www.salon.com/wires/ap/business/2009/1...
An array of West Virginia's top political leaders stood shoulder-to-shoulder Tuesday with executives from the state's top coal producers, vowing to form a united front in the face of what they call mixed signals and heavy-handedness from federal mining regulators. Gov. Joe Manchin arranged the summit, attracting U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., Reps. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., and aides to Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va.

The Controlled Demolitions of 911 - http://existentialistcowboy.blogspot.com/2009...
Only a controlled demolition looks like a controlled demolition. And WTC 7 looks like a controlled demolition because it was 'pulled' just as Silverstein himself said it was. And if it was 'pullled', it had to have been 'prepped', that is, explosives planted and wired perhaps two weeks or more in advance of the so-called 'terrorist attack'.

It's a big deal in Britain.
Every returning kia soldier(British) returning from overseas has to go through a particular township.
It's a funeral procession. Thousands of people turn out for this every time it happens.
We need to do the same. People need to see this up close and personal.
I'm glad the Prez is showing that this is on his mind.
I'm glad he's taking a long time to commit more troops to Afghanistan.
That shows me this is weighing heavily on his mind.
C'mon Mr Prez. Get us the F outta there. That country can't be fixed.
returning dead troops are ALWAYS greeted by someone from the royal family.
It is a returning ceremony and it is public.
We should do the same - someone from the WH should greet every coffin. After a few thousand I think they would get tired of it and bring our troops home.
Several times now. The crowd keeps getting bigger and bigger.
People from miles away turn out.
Every time I see it I get a sick feeling. This whole thing is fubar. It needs to end. Now. Fuck Karzai.
Torch the poppies on the way out.
Is it just me or does stupak sound like a PAC group for stoopid people

Also, the notion that women can't write is astounding - especially to literature majors.
