Keith talked with Michael Moore last night and Moore offered this-
that if Moore and Keith got voters riled up enough to tell elected representatives to go after corruption, regulation, etc. of the corporations and the voters did just that, Moore felt that he and Keith would no longer have shows or movies, etc. I've heard Keith reads this blog and I will probably write him to be sure he hears this (if he doesn't already know) that Cablevision has removed MSNBC from their basic programming. You MUST have a BOX to view MSNBC and a host of other stations. Interesting though, they took MSNBC off but left CNBC, the Comedy Channel, CNN and..wait for it..fox. So after a fashion, Moore's prediction has already come to pass. But for the life of me, I can't figure out why they left fox in with basic programming. Why would I need fox when one Comedy Channel is more than enough.

For those of us who care desperately about the climate, President Obama's speech on Tuesday-the first to the world body by this most admired of world leaders-was a dud, a towering disappointment. Coming at the beginning of what the UN has dubbed "climate week," the speech marked the beginning of a three-month push towards the global climate conference at Copenhagen.
Obama used it mostly to downplay expectations. And it's those downplayed expectations that may prove to be tragically self-fulfilling. Oh sure, there were a few flights of soaring rhetoric: "Our generation's response to this challenge will be judged by history," blah blah blah. But of all issues, this is the one where rhetoric does the least good. The enemy here is chemistry and physics, and they are heartily unimpressed by anything except specific targets for the reduction of carbon dioxide.
And on this front Obama was completely unforthcoming, promising only that "we will continue to do so by investing in renewable energy, promoting greater efficiency, and slashing our emissions to reach the targets we set for 2020 and our long-term goal for 2050." --
-- The reason he didn't speak those targets out loud is because anyone who knows anything about climate-and that now includes, on at least a rudimentary level, most of the heads of the state who assembled to hear his speech-knows that those targets are unbearably weak. By 2050 he's talking about 80 percent reductions-but 2050 is so far away as to be almost meaningless without strong interim targets.
By 2020 the bill he's backing aims for something on the order of 17 percent reductions, though the legislation is so shot through with weird weird loopholes that that's probably a meaningless number too. In any event, it's well below what actual scientists are calling for: reductions in carbon emissions from the developed countries of something like 40 percent by 2020. In other words, an all-out, crash effort to change course and avert disaster.
--- And that's not at all what Obama seems to be planning for. - His most immediate priority-"every nation's most immediate priority"-is producing more economic growth. Copenhagen can be a "significant step." We must not let "the perfect be the enemy of progress."
I'm not exactly SURE how much clearer this could be.... The climate is essential to life on earth...there is NOTHING more important...we've always had disease, been on the 'brink' of nuclear war for decades now, had corporate malfeasance trashing world economies in the face of regulatory leglislation.... If we balk/baulk on this...we doom ourselves, our progeny, and humanity on this Earth.
If Obama & the Dems blow this...they will be hammered in 2010 and Obama will be a one term president (maybe that's what he's angling for???)

for too long i've watched jay leno and i still can't figure out where he's coming from. sometimes he sounds very liberal and then he goes on the stump as he is now against john edwards and then he has the nerve to put rush limbaugh on his show. In this case he did try to battle rush in a war of words. but rush is so adept at this, he has twenty million listeners of that show and makes a heck of a lot of money for whatever he does. Jay was sorely undermanned and the audience which was filled with conservative sympathizers let him know where their sympathies were. get off the fence jay, sorry, but we all know where dave's philosophical political leanings are.where do you stand or are you so intent on pleasing the masses for ratings that consequently you cannot upset anyone. geez, what people won't do for the almighty dollar.
