Glenn Beck has intimated previously that President Obama wants to destroy you -- after all, who could forget the time he doused another Fox weenie with "gasoline" and then held a match in his vicinity, saying he was Obama?

He did it again last night, by way of explaining why he said he thought John McCain would have been worse than Obama. He put out a pot of boiling water, playing off the old scenario about boiled frogs, and how they can't tell they're in lethally hot water until it's too late if you turn the heat up slowly. That, he argues, is what has been happening to us, and McCain just would have continued the process.

Beck thinks what Obama is actually doing is turning the heat up all at once and then tossing the frogs (that is, the American people) in. So he grabbed a supposedly live frog and tossed it into the water. (Later, he had John Bolton declare that it was actually a fake rubber frog.) Gosh, he says, he was hoping the frog would jump out.

It really is amazing to think how far and how fast Beck has pushed the envelope of acceptable rhetoric for the American Right. I remember when Alan Keyes declared Obama "a radical communist," everyone laughed and shrugged and took it as another sign of just how far out to lunch Keyes really is. But Beck -- who really does increasingly resemble the lunatic who talks to himself on the streetcorner, except that he has a media megaphone and millions of dollars -- can say this stuff now and it scarcely raises a ripple.

Watch for the Obama Genocide Program theories to start turning up on this show any day now.

When does the line get crossed between acceptable and incitement?

beck has crossed it and belongs with plexico burris...

but what did plaxico do to deserve THAT?

with a different skin color.

Had Beck been of a different color, the media would have declared his kookiness a long, long time ago.

Why

Do we keep giving this and other republican idiots news time...
Really is what Beck , Rush , O'Reilly worst the space and time we give them...
Their coverage could be stated in two words.. The Idiots.
It would be better to heard what the democrats are really going to push in a health bill...
Or are the democrats really going to renegotiate the free trade act , which should have been named the transferring or American to the foreign countries in 8 years. Over 3.5 American jobs outsourced...

If only everyone in the Country turned off their TVs completely.

It is Corporate propaganda.

..its the pshht that's on it!
There have been, are and will continue to be some excellent programming and entertainment. Its the schlock some network exec thinks is hot and some people lap up that's got to be turned off.

Agree with you. But so many [a majority of Americans??????"] are so brain washed that they feel they cannot live without Tveeeee. Any "sane" person however, would turn to another channel once the BECK is on.

That in order to brain wash people you need to keep repeating over and over the same d... thing and that what we are doing to Palin , Beck , Rush , O'Reilly and other republican jerks..
We even made JOE the Bummer popular and he was an unemployed lair..

A frog will jump out of water that is slowly heated up. My favorite thing about this metaphor is that, according to Wikipedia, "the story is thought to have originated with the work of German physiologist Friedrich Goltz, who demonstrated that a frog will indeed remain in slowly heated water, but only if its brain is removed"

)O(

A republican tea-bagging faux news frog?

it's the perfect metaphor about Conservatives.

Their "brains" are removed through years and years of indoctrination at the local church in which they're told by the pastors and other religious leaders that they (the parishioners) are completely incapable of making their own decisions.

Thus, all decision making will be made by others for them.

Beck and the rest of the media is just the dial on the stove that regulates the temp. If things boil over, they'll be first to say... We had nothing to do with it.

Beck should make cooking a regular part of his show.

In fact he may do well to remove his political segments altogether.

...he seems to be good at whipping up cauldrons of gruel.

)O(

I thought frog was a regular insult of the French.

of course this is a skit, he's not boiling a frog, this is actually a pretty good skit and the only real problem is he might influence some nuts to actually try it

btw

a small frog could obviously not jump out of anything, boiling or not of there wasn't anything to jump off of, he can't jump off the water he would have to jump off the bottom and then with enough velocity to clear the boiling water

anyway, this was a ruse

But he proved nothing. His verbal analogy would have been suffient. By doing this strange act, he completely blew his wee bit of credibility on this subject.

Later, he had John Bolton declare that it was actually a fake rubber frog

Like Milk Moustache dude is credible? Like he wouldn't like for Beck?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

If it was rubber, why didn't Beck take it out of the water (before camera cutaways) to prove it? He didn't even have one on hand to fake it, because he had no idea this would be seen as cruelty.
And why would a fucking talk show host want to do that to his audience?

Sick fuck.

)O(

Is a fake rubber frog a real frog then?

No question it was real live frog.

It wouldn't of made his point to use a fake frog. What was he waiting for if he knew it was fake? If it was, he could of pulled it out afterward and said, "Don't worry folks, it wasn't real!", but he didn't.

At about 4m05s there is a camera shift to a close up of a hand reaching into a plastic cage of frogs, some of which are jumping around. It is not easy to determine if the hand (we have to assume it was an overhead zoom shot and not a switch to an off-set camera or non-live footage) actually grabs a live frog, or pulls a sleight-of-hand (w00t, a pun) grab of a rubber frog. It does kinda look like he flips up a sitting frog, but it does not appear to move before the hands close over it and they cut back to the previous camera angle about 4m15s.

Now, at about 4m45s Glenn appears to toss what ever is in his hands into the pot, which has steam rising from it but we cannot see from what due to the camera angle. There is also no splash effect apparent within the pot at the toss, and (could be because of the video quality) I couldn't see anything actually travel from hands to pot. He does however appear to be genuinely caught off-guard by the fact that the frog doesn't jump out of the pot and does a dismissal of the demonstration because it doesn't go as he assumed it would. Even doing a double-take back to the pot after having 'recovered' at about 4m55s.

I dunno, maybe the Humane Society should look into this. Was there a disclaimer that no actual frogs were hurt during the filming of the show?

.

Jimmi,
I have to say that I agree.
Where's PETA, too?

.

)O(

I wonder what do French mamas think when they phone their daughter in the middle of the night, and upon answering, their daughter coughs a couple of times, and then apologizes for having a frog in her throat?

)O(

I much prefer Larry the Lobster:

..Larry the Lobster on-line and couldn't find it.
Sort of reminds me of the National Lampoon cover featuring Doug Kenny holding the puppy and saying "Buy this mag or the puppy gets it!" or something like that. Best magazine cover ever!

)O(

I think they did that on purpose

Good luck finding any classic SNL on Youtube

I don't think they want the comparison to the crap they've had the last 20 years or so.

"Buy this magazine, or we'll shoot this dog."

Editorial next issue began with something like "We shot the dog and it's all your fault. We warned you. We may have held the gun, but you assholes sure as hell pulled the trigger..."

On edit: http://alignmap.com/wp-content/Graphics/lampo...

and I agree with beck on this one, there are very few "real" republicans, the party has been co-opted by neo-fascists calling themselves neo-cons

and there are few real democrats, most are acting like former day republicans

He made it through Katie's interview looking somewhat human, now back to the circus.

Beck is an uneducated clod Can't the right at least find somebody well educated to clomp along in lock-step with

Well, we saw him put his hand into a box of live frogs, so I dunno if the frog was fake or not. Thing is why did he go to so much trouble to make it look real? He demonstrated nothing with his act so why bother unless he wanted his audience to know that he has an awful streak in him that would make him capable of doing such a thing for real. If it was a fake frog he knew it wasn't going to jump out, so what's the purpose

My bottom line question is why did he do this in the first place, real or fake, he proved nothing at all. He just looked like an idiot doing an idiotic act. He sure went to a lot of trouble to set up that stage and props for nothing except to make himself look capable of doing cruel acts.

He should pull the latex on out of his butt and boil that too! Its been up there way too long!

If beck wanted to make a point I would have agreed with he would have put his own big white flabby ass in that pot of boiling water and we could have seen how fast he would have jumped out.

sounds more like Beck is the frog, going crazier and crazier until suddenly he's crackpot insane

Why didn't Beck boil his own balls, instead of playing with them constantly and give us all an even bigger

Or the people who watch him every day to get their "news." Slowly they are going insane and don't realize it ad before they know it they will be on the street corner talking to manikins in the storefront window.

Before he goes any farther around the bend. How long till his nutty followers notice something's wrong? Perhaps never, alas.

wearing a straight jacket, the tea bagging morons will think Beck is performing the best political comment since ancient Greece.

the dumbass stoled that line from Al Gores "an inconvenant truth". this guy is the whackest dip shit on fox.

fashioned out of newspaper while he starts to try to play a funnel like it were a trumpet... all in the name of making some sort of point about Obama's policies.

You might look back at some of the tapes of his show, he may have already done those things.

:)

totally. like 'johnny' from airplane:

Steve McCroskey: Johnny, what can you make out of this?
[Hands him the weather briefing]
Johnny: This? Why, I can make a hat or a brooch or a pterodactyl...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YV5h6xzGKo

It's interesting that he feels he needs props to make his point. The frog metaphor is simple enough to explain verbally; so why does he need the redundant visuals? Is he catering to the presumed intelligence of his audience, or is he a little man insecure at his own lack of eloquence?

Or does he just like the idea of killing things even if he can't really do it on tv?

yes, there's that for sure. Good point. The far right these days likes to feign violence. Bring a rifle to an Obama rally with no intention of using it. Same kind of thing.

The "but I could if I wanted to" frame of mind.

If a teacher pulled this stunt in a biology class the parents of the kids would raise hell.

More importantly, you are asking me to believe Bolton? I also noticed that this post states "frogs" were thrown into the pot, but it was a plastic "frog." These are probably the most important and serious questions that could be asked of Beck? Yet, I still don't get why anyone pays attention to him. In fact, look I have been forced to even wade into the muck.

beck's audience is like a bucket of frogs pithed by beck. and, like pithed frogs, they can still perform basic-instinctual functions--like tuning in to beck's cavalcade of pointlessness

a DELLUSIONAL PARANOID

Maybe he was trying to tell his audience that they were no smarter than frogs. In that case he might be correct.

I read

...now and it scarcely raises a ripple.

I thought it said "scarcely raises a nipple. lol

)O(

Beck is just laughing at us all the way to the bank. The guy is making $10 to $20 million a year. It works for him, whether he truly believes what he is saying or not.

I bet if I gave you $10 to $20 million a year you would be doing exactly the same. It is all about the money for all these guys and gals. To them it does not matter what they say.

Umm, no Phillip1, I would not whore out my life for big bucks.

I'll take that bet.

Ha!

mon dieu!

)O(

Beck is an entertainer. Nothing he says has any meaning whatsoever. Except for those that don't know he's an entertainer. Or those that don't find him entertaining.

True, he is an entertainer. But it does not follow that his words lack meaning. Jon Stewart and Colbert are also entertainers, but their words have a huge meaning and impact to those who like their views. I think the same is true of Beck. Beck can be viewed as the crazy right wing version of Colbert.

If Beck is an "entertainer", the meaning of that word has changed quite a bit from what I was familiar with. The VERY last thing I feel after watching any of his drivel is "entertained".

Wonder if the frog had insurance and if they drop his coverage after the boiling incident. It would take a lot of expense to skin graft a frog. Bet he was dropped after years of payments. He might want to support the public option.

If he had acne or was an expecting father he would not get coverage.

eh, how is that not about the collective?

I totally caught that one as well. Mind bendingly stupid.

Hurts my brain.

I think if you look at all societies that have risen and fallen, that you quickly notice that the turning point and events that lead to the eventual downfall have to do with selfishness and arrogance replacing community and the collective. Rome rose to such heights because of things like public baths, the aquaducts, and a republic city state that believed that when everybody does well, they are happy, productive citizens

This abstraction of our elected government (that it's not for us, that we have no control over it, ect) that is talked up by people like Beck is idiotic, but it's also dangerous. People really start to believe in these things and they start doing really stupid things. These morons are so caught up in their idealogical preoccupation that they don't realize that there are certain strings that bind ALL of us. There is no such thing as an individual. Believe me, I know. I've rebelled my entire life and still continue to now, but the very source of my rebellion is the same strings of power that bind politicians to their interests. People love to say that politicians will do anything to keep their power. What power do they have if they are constantly doing the bidding of others?

These intellectual jackasses like Beck, who really actually is smarter than people think, don't understand these sort of concepts at all. Everything Beck does, including this stunt today, is done for ratings. He is some sort of newage shock pundit, and I give him credit for being amongst the first. He'll make a lot of money doing it until other people start doing it.

These idiots just don't get it. They are ideologues, and nothing you present them with will ever convince them otherwise. They only hear what they want to hear. They take what they want to take. This is my impression on the way the world actually works, and I don't want to be like any of these people. I want to get paid a moderate amount of money to create things that a lot of other people cannot, for that is what being an individual is. It's not about money or power, it's about doing things others cannot. I don't see how slightly higher taxes to ensure everyone always has access to health care is going to inhibit my ability to go on making things that I dream up.

If I come to fame and wealth while doing it, well that would be great too, for creative people really just want to be loved by everybody in the end. Loved for who they are and what they do, and because it helps, entertains, or just plain makes other people happy. Makes people happy to be where they are, and whoever they're there with.

He's a total fraud and a phony-which isn't to say he isn't also a dangerous nut--anyone who wants to understand where he came from needs to read all three parts of this excellent Salon piece:

http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2009/09/21/...

If you don't have the patience for that just watch his Morning Zoo ad....

It's more along his personality.

... who have practically been giving Glenn Beck free blow jobs.

THIS is the IDIOT you interviewed, Katie Couric. The frog-boiling, faux gasoline pouring, wine poisoning, crying-jag, Christmas-sweatered MORON who is busy whipping up dissent.

And you helped put a fresh coat of legitimacy on him the other night.

;-)

than why is Mr. Beck so upset? If Mr. Beck is a champion of the people, why is he so adamantly against Obama on
Wall Street--Reaganomics began debt accumulation, deregulation, and tax breaks for the rich all which have destroyed the middle class.
Stimulus spending--WWII was largest stimulus spending in American history and saved economy. Today would be called "socialist". Can you imagine where America would be today if not for the US govt stepping in the late 30's?
Health Care--preventive, cost-saving, and most importantly, life saving. For the right, freedom in this country means it is more important for corporations to have rights and to control legislation than it does for an individual to have access and affordable health care.

A person like Glenn Beck will actually cry on national television to persuade people how important it is for the rights of corporations not to be infringed upon by people. In the same breath he will cry out he is fighting for your freedom. So in Glenn Beck's world, when something is not going directly to the profits of a private corporation it is tantamount to dictatorship. The argument is no longer about distribution an allocation and of resources, it is now a life or death struggle for "the soul" of a nation. This is so obviously about race. It is so obviously about greed and fighting for the status quo. It is so obviously about the right coming to terms with the expanding minority populations and a decreasing % of white's in the population.

Mr. Beck is nothing new, but it is his hypocrisy and misplaced reasoning which goes largely unchallenged in the MSM that is so startling. We have the freaking internet, we have an African American President, we have al this progress, and then we also have Glenn Beck. Sometimes it's hard to see how this dichotomy exists. Health care debate, despite all MSM pontifications stating otherwise, should not be complex. It should be universal, of course that's the right thing to do. What is complex is the duplicity of the American media and red-state masses who swallow up populism quicker than they eat fast food.

who really does increasingly resemble the lunatic who talks to himself on the streetcorner

I dont know, how can you be sure there isnt another guy a hundred miles away answering all the crazy things the first guy is spewing :D

Becky is going over the deep end though if he's resorting to killing frogs (real or imaginary).

Beck jumps the frog.

Maybe this is really a throwback to the good ol' days of 2003 wingnut Francophobia.

Glenn Greenwald said it best:
"Ultimately, Beck himself is just a histrionic intellectual mess: willing to latch onto any hysterical accusations and conspiracy theories that provide some momentary benefit, no matter how contradictory they might be from one moment to the next."

To put it another way - the man is an idiot!!!

Does there have to be a new Beck post every time he takes a dump? He's a clown. He gets too much coverage as it is. Time to move onto something substantial.

Coverage that exposes his fear-mongering and idiocy is important. That's here on C&L.

Coverage like the WSJ, Time, and Katie Couric's 'interview' is what gives the clown legitimacy.

And that is the failing of the media in a nutshell. They can't tell facts from crap, so we either get both, or we get crap and told it's fact, or we get facts and told they're crap.

the comparison between his viewers and an amphibian of limited intelligence seems so apt.

This pasty, deranged adolescent is merely a tool for the Murdochs of the world to keep the teeming unwashed distracted and in a state of excitation. Any enlightened and balanced individual would either avoid or berate this noise machine. On that note, . . . . .

look at min 4:06-4:13 you can clearly see the frog is jumping .
and some time during the clip you can see the hot water steam coming out of the pot .
this guy needs help , for real .

He's boiling frogs now? He's a witch! A witch I say!

Oops, gotta be careful. His viewers might actually buy that.

eye of Newt?

This is what passes as journalism over at that there FOX NEWS.

I think Beck should have stayed in the psych ward a little longer than two weeks...

his producers are empty cold vessels.

was that nice young Michael Bolton. I am not sure I would accept confirmation from this other fellow.

Glenn, in explaining that those mean ol' Progressives are the root of the problem, tells us, "They think they know better than you do. It's always what's best for the collective. No! 'We the People.' It's about the individuals."

I don't know about you, but I think "We the People" sounds like a statement from a collective. It's not as if the Preamble to the Constitution begins with something like "We, the Loose Affiliation of Individuals Who Are Mostly Just Thinking About Our Own Personal Desires."

Beck really knows how to get the point across to the inbred crowd that is drawn to his show. He brings out his Barbie Dolls on O'Reilly and now it's his rubber frog toy. Ya gotta give him credit. He really knows how to dumb it down for the rubes.

)O(

should be in jail.

fickst du blöde Fotze!

So first Beck says 'Democrats are basically socialists', then he says'...the lies of these two parties, that they are different'.

Vive la socialisme Republicaine!

;>)

The more you talk about Beck, the more he gets what he wants. Just like Annthrax, just like Mickey Malkin, just like Limbosevic, and the like. You're not "exposing" him. You're not "educating" anyone who doesn't already know what's what. You're just fueling further antics, that you will no doubt have strong reaction to.

Since it is FROGS that George W. Bush liked to insert fire crackers into and laugh gleefully as he lit the fuse and blew them UP.
