Alan Keyes: Stop that 'radical communist' Obama or America will die

So Alan Keyes, in an interview with a reporter from KHAS-TV, filmed outside a fundraiser for the AAA Crisis Pregnancy Center in Hastings, Neb., said this:
"Obama is a radical communist, and I think it is becoming clear. That is what I told people in Illinois and now everybody realizes it's true," said Keyes, who ran unsuccessfully against Obama for the state's open Senate seat in 2004. "He is going to destroy this country, and we are either going to stop him or the United States of America is going to cease to exist."
These kinds of remarks are, as Andrew Sullivan suggests, deeply disturbing, and not merely for the gut-level emotional impact.
Already, if you look at the comments from the YouTube where it's posted -- as well as at a number of right-wing sites -- the remarks are being hailed as "the truth" and "telling it like it is."
This is classic right-wing eliminationism: Depicting the opposition as the embodiment of evil, intent on destroying the nation. For militia/Patriot types, this kind of rhetoric also becomes a call to action.

I'm telling you, and mark my words, this is a guy who is out of options in his chosen career (politics) and the only thing he's got left is a shot at a job as a conservative screamer. When you can no longer cut it in the real world, you ramp up the vitriol and hyperbole and head for the trash heap of conservative talk radio and/or punditry (see: Dennis Miller, Bill O'Reilly, Ollie North, G. A little business lesson for you: recessions are a normal part of any economic cycle. With the "chimp" in office folks made a ton of money over a short period of time in real estate. The market heated up. People became overextended. The housing bubble burst. This housing meltdown exacerbated a "normal" economic downturn and has made it much worse. What also contributed to this mess was your democratic controlled congress (carrying on what good 'ol Jimmy Carter started in the 70's) making loans to folks who don't qualify. He voted against a bill that was unnecessary because a law was already on the books in Illinois to cover that situation. For him to paint Obama as a "baby killer" is sheer stupidity. Ok, what I don't understand about people like this, and the hysterical mouth-frothing of the likes of Sean Hannity, is that they don't have any comprehension of the fact that Obama and his policies is not the cause of this financial collapse, it is the policies of GOP politics. I can't believe that Keyes asks if Obama is the President and calls him a child. This is embarassing, but I know that he has the right to say it. If not, 80% of the nation would have been in trouble during the Bush years.
Oddly enough, Keyes does not offer up any insight or helpful suggestions. Rather, he uses vague and disrespectful terms to sound like he has a case. I just hope the majority of Americans view his short, exclamatory speech for what it truly is--nonsensical words from a resentful, right-wing extremist. I have a feeling most will recognize this but a few others will follow his unreliable battle cry.

2. See sometimes you must work within the system to get things done. Raging against the system is not ALWAYS the answer. I applaud Obama for actually focusing on healing this nation vs finding a scapegoat for our wounds for his first 100 days. If you'd pay attention to what Obama, Biden, or new AG Holder has said, they basically admit that the Bush administration had broken the law but focusing on their trials is not something that can be rushed. It takes times. It is my true belief that when he fixes the nation, he'll focus on bringing those who did wrong to justice. And even if he doesn't, I'm pretty sure there is a national movement, even a global movement that will not allow these war criminals Bush and co. go free and will pressure our government into taking some kind of action.
3. For Christ sakes the man had just passed the month mark for being in office. If he's having this much trouble dealing with the obstructionist GOP party over helping the nation economically, how long do you think it'll take to convince Congress to repeal the Patriot Act, a highly controversial and partisan issue. What unless you want him to invoke "Executive Privilege" like Bushy and make rulings with an iron fist? No...THAT would be unconstitutional. Be patient.
4. No you are thick headed cuz you've got yourself wrapped in this us versus them mentality where you're already making the assumption that ANY govt is bad and that the Obama admin, given that he's only 1 month into it, will be as bad as the Bush admin. Name one thing Obama has done so far that's unconstitutional, and no...what he hasn't done yet to repeal Bush's unconstitutional policies does NOT count.
5. Your arguments just strike me as overly self-victimizing rather than trying to provide a solution in helping this country progress and move forward. Let us heal for now, but never forget the last 8 years on injustice we were put through. I just think people need to set their sights on bigger things and view the bigger picture that we are in such a dire situation right now, things that effect everyday people and everyday lives right NOW that let us place practicality first.

He also gave the ok to bomb inside Pakistan last month, without the consent of the people or Congress. I believe that's a war crime, is it not? That is also a crime against the Constitution and the authority granted the president. Technically he is now a de facto president as we now have prima fascie evidence of war crimes. Yes perhaps YOU'RE the one way too far off on the fringe of the political spectrum that Democrats and Republicans seem exactly the same to you. Just because a politician receives funding from a corporation or any group doesn't mean he/she is an automatic slave to its cause. One thing I would argue is not everything about a corporation is bad (just that greed promotes bad behavior within it) and at the same token not all lobbyists are bad (some actually lobby for good causes and I think because of the Abramoff scandal "lobbying" became a dirty word). I think that's where you're heading by saying both parties are funded by the same people.
How about the multiple policies Obama differs from Bush? Just to name a few that he's done something about in the last month: Torture, Ledbetter act, SCHIP, and pretty much his entire approach on the economy of tax cuts for the rich. You don't seem to place those on the balance. And actually reading the Huffington Post article I definitely agree that the situation between Bagram and Guantanamo is different. You can't simply go from one extreme to another, there has to be a gradual transition to things to ensure responsibility and the most optimal of outcomes.

As for the Patriot Act, I'll admit he was careless about that one. In fact, all but 2 senators voted for it because they weren't as vigilant of Bush as they should have been (He had high approval ratings after 9/11 and no one expected him to abuse the loopholes during such a tragic event of US history). They were all a bit careless and victims of the Bush admin's fear mongering and pressure. But no, I would definitely say senators like Obama were not guilty of the act of wiretapping, torture, and rendition, but share the regret for not being able to efficiently stop it during the Bush Admin.

If you know a little bit about anything, you'd know the Pakistani government would love US cooperation in eliminating the fringe element along the Afghan-Pakistan border. Except just recently the weak Pakistan government was forced to offer consessions to the Taliban and that can lead to a dark, dark road ahead.

Ron Paul has never called for a flat tax. He's called to repeal the income tax in in it's entirety and abolish the Fed and IRS. As far as government aid goes. Don't you think Americans should be first when it comes to our own money? If you want to give out of your pocket that's fine. But do not force people to pay taxes and then send it away to foreign countries with no oversight. That's as socialist as it get's.

What do you call repealing the income tax and having everyone pay the same amount of sales tax? A FLAT TAX! Where the poor or the unfortunate don't get a second chance because there's no government organization or aid available. Paying taxes is patriotic because the idea is that government takes that pooled money and reinvests it into our society: building infrastructure, safety, jobs, etc. So if you're rich, you give a little more but if you're poor, you give a little less and EVERYONE benefits from a well funded, educated, society. It is unfortunate that in the last 8 years the money has been poured down the drain benefiting Bush's personal friends but that doesn't mean ANY government is inherently bad. That's the tone the Republicans have been trying to set since Reagan.
So maybe YOU can stick to your Rick Santelli and Ron Paul beliefs but something so ideologically individualist/elitist and quite frankly selfish is what's wrong with America today and I'm hoping Obama will help steer us in the other direction.
