Paul Haggis quits Scientology over its Jedi mind tricks and support for Prop. 8. The Saudis have a different interpretation of what it means to whip it. Republicans suddenly give a fuck about costs when they're not pointless wars. Will the "reform" bill also take away the mandate of employer coverage? Obama wants banks to help small businesse. Climate change, these protestors can believe in. Once again, my horoscope sounds more spot-on than most political analysts:

...It's like the Prez telling us to get the "swine flu" shot but not allowing his daughters to get it... WHY?... Perhaps it's a good reason... Perhaps it's not...Wouldn't it be great to hear a news-cast without some kind of "Swine Flu" (H1-N1) story... They've got the kids so scared at Jesse's school... Any kid that has the sniffles is convinced they have "swine flu" and is "counted as having that"... (but never tested & confirmed)... Why do they want this to be so huge?... Is it to distract the attention away from the extremely terrible financial conditions?... Whatever... I don't buy it... Especially since it's actually a mild flu... It's only those that have radical other conditions that get whacked by it. The stock market might be going up, but even a blind man can see the economy is freakin' hittin' the tank & it's gonna get a lot freakin' worse... Especially if the unemployed start losing their houses & end up on the streets!!

Disturbing and enlightening video, explains a lot.

Real News interviews Craig Murray, former British Ambassador to Uzbekistan, who resigned his post when he realized the real purpose of the US and UK relationship with Uzbekistan.

Answers, among other things, "Why did the CIA use torture to extract false confessions?" and "What is the US/UK real interest in Afghanistan?"

Uzbek terror and the UK/USA

Thanks for that link. I really like the Real News Network and it would make for better debate here if more stories were linked to its reporting instead of Beck and Coulter.

I mean, I know somebody has to keep their eye on those two, but not everyday.

I couldn't believe it when Memphis's daily paper, the Commercial Appeal, laid off Bill Day. He is amazing... but what can you say about a city that is using federal stimulus funding to demolish the 150-year-old historic Fairgrounds, site of the South's first integrated concert venues and Elvis's last public appearance?

when they redirected the party from Overton Square to Beale St. The city was capable enough to handle both venues. A few yrs back I returned to attend a Memphis in May Concert Festival. Wanting to hike back to the car, I stood in line for an hour to buy a wrist band to reenter. No wristband made available on entry and my ticket stub was useless. Like Memphis is now.

From then on, they've just been posers to me. Notwithstanding Bono's very laudable work as an activist, which of course is the more important work. I just don't get U2.

(Eno/Lanois-produced). "One Tree Hill" is maybe their best song ever.

There have been a few good songs since then--"When Love Comes to Town" (mostly on the power of BB King's vocals) and "It's a Beautiful Day". But I haven't purchased anything of theirs since "The Joshua Tree."

Substitute amendments offer an entire alternative to the existing text of bills under consideration. The for-profit insurance purchase mandates proposed can still be replaced with the real extension of the basic human right of healthcare. The single-payer substitute amendments can make that right into our American reality.

The Weiner amendment is our road to extending the basic human right of healthcare to all. We all wish the formal bill under consideration right now was HR676. Many have fought for it, lobbied for it, written and called supporting it … but the reality is there won’t be true Medicare for all out of the People’s House any other way but through the Weiner amendment to HR3200.

Rep. Weiner was on a conference call just last night with the activists of the Progressive Democrats of America. He said that his amendment is currently being “scored” by the Congressional Budget Office. The score assigned will measure the amendment’s impact on the federal budget. The results of that score will be out sometime soon. Then it will be up to Speaker Nancy Pelosi to honor her commitment to Rep. Weiner to bring his substitute amendment to full debate on the floor of the House when HR3200 is under consideration. Rep. Weiner says that will be happening sometime in the next few weeks – maybe as early as the first week in November. He also said more Congressional members are learning more about the economic and moral benefits of his amendment. We need to support that work.

Latest nuggets of wisdom from Morons Watching:

But voting is the fundamental core of every democratic system.

Last time I checked, the core of every democratic system is a list of inaliable rights.

Every socialist system has shown that it ultimately benefits a select group of elites.

Um, last time I checked, the elites don't like socialism, because they're the ones who lose out most.

cordandwire's picture

Socialist elites are a different breed from capitalist elites. What we really need are moral elites!

Elitism is antithetical to democracy. "Moral Elites" make me think of evangelicals.

Speaking of the FDA, I'm shocked by the weakness of their oversight of software & firmware in medical devices. I work with aircraft flight controls, and the FAA is (quite properly) on us like white on rice about issues of software quality and safety. And it's effective.

NOBODY 2012

yes the throw back to the days of the Kuwait Invasion, this was the first time America was introduced to the realities of the Muslim hardliners. I watched TV in those days mesmerized by the sights and watching the various Clown from the evangelicals smiled small smiles and licked their lips and their eyes lit with glee when they saw women in burk-as, then the discipline of the women to be subjected to the total complete will of the man and his family. Yes, even today as I watch these asshole and their repukulan allies trying forever trying to bring down the American woman through Guilt innuendo, and demand her total commitment to a weak kneed weak minded moron called a christian. The proof in the staement and the support for what the Muslims do to their women is by their silence and the answer to the questions, notice how they impose their will on anything they find disdainful (Africa and the children being declared witches, Mexico and the catholics having a woman declared a witch and then having her killed. Notice how quiet these co operating lying COWARDS are and how much they wish they could do the same to their congregations and women and children, A christians perfect dream be able to kill their child because it dissatisfied their god. No the Cowardly christian will allow this to go on under the guise of religious freedom and its in their Country. They will turn a Blind eye in this country as it call for intestinal fortitude and courage. Sure glad I am a atheist

Can we vote Bill Maher off the progressive island? He's been trafficking in all sorts of anti-vaccine nonsense for years, and has lately slipped into denial of the germ theory.

As a result of such nonsense, dangerous diseases we'd very nearly eliminated in developed countries are coming creeping back. :(

moonsha's picture

that would be news to him for sure. Bill Maher has an opinion and he states it.

He refuses to be a member of any established political party or specific set of ideas.
