"Double, double, toil and trouble," chant Michele Bachmann, Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh as they stir up the pot against health care reform.

A few incantations from the trio's trick or treat bag: Congresswoman Bachmann says sex clinics will result from Health Care Reform, Ann Coulter says Obama's plan encourages assisted suicide for the elderly, and Rush Limbaugh says Obama's health care plan is right out of Hitler's playbook.

WASHINGTON — House Democratic leaders have scheduled a rally for Thursday where they plan to unveil legislation to overhaul the health care system, which they hope to take to the House floor next week.

Scores of lobbyists were “cordially invited’’ to attend the event in e-mail messages sent Wednesday by Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

That just about says it all.

Evet's picture

The final product in the House, reflecting many of President Barack Obama's priorities, includes new requirements for employers to offer insurance to their workers or face penalties, fines on Americans who don't purchase coverage and subsidies to help lower-income people do so.

I'm glad there are some people who are willing to stand up and be counted. The majority of the elected elite isn't willing to do anything but pocket money from the whores on K Street. There I said it and I'm not sorry either... Lobbyists are exactly that... whores!

BeamMeUpScottyBoyGM's picture

painfully obvious by now, that members of congress are only in it for themselves, and the public be damned, then I'm not sure what it would take to convince someone. It isn't, and never has been, about public health care.....it's all about THEM, and how much money they can pocket from the lobbyists!!

Bribers. Graft givers. Why is lobbying legal at all?

SadButTrue's picture

..was greater access to the politicians. And legislation that would make their activities legal. What goes on under the guise of lobbying is called influence peddling in the rest of the civilized world, and it's a felony.

should do to Fox what Chavez did to the one outlet that tried to back the coup in Venezuela but they would just be vilified as censoring the news. Actually Chavez didn't do anything, but because of the TV stations abuse of the airways, didn't renew the license. Sometimes, I think our right to free speech goes too far, but I suppose if they shut Fox down, someone would find a way to shut down our free speech even when we speak the truth. Fucked up it is.

Ape-Man's picture

I think they should recognize FOX NEWS as a political organization and subject to those rules.

Meanwhile, i suggest the Democrats put together their own grass-roots Cable Network without delay. I can think of dozens of public figures that would love to work for them.

it is not cost effective resulting in non-investigative,op-ed entertainment gossipy hearsay shouting matches. if i had $100mil to start a broadcast news network, i would build a base of dedicated journalists focused on hard-core investigative, no nonsense, get the facts jack, shoot straight to the heart journalists, broadcast it on the net and the likes of iTV, and advertise liberally. but since i don't, i am relegated to finding my bag of raisins to spice up my gruel.

Corporations have no mind, no soul, but most importantly no vote. The real problem is that they got around that part by bribing the law makers. They don't need their one little vote when they can, and do bribe the law makers.

Just ask Joe Liebeman. he knows.

Consumer confidence goes down in October. Fisker appropriates a GM factory for the purpose of building better cars. It'll be a while before Madoff's "clients" get their money back. Shit goes down in Pakistan the same day Hillary said we're turning the page there. Boeing flips off unionized plane-builders and sets up shop in S. Carolina. A pregnant woman dies of H1N1. Congress tries to stop firms from being too big to fail and credit agencies from lying about ratings. I'd rather take a thinker than a decider. The Nordic countries are better for chicks than the U.S. So it only took a guy to miss his destination and another guy to crash into a car for us to finally do something about distracted driving. Specter says we should get rid of DOMA, for some reason. What a concept. A Prez who meets with the families of dead vets. The fuzzy math of the stimulus.

Ape-Man's picture

It's not just that the insurance corporations in question have no souls, it's that as a result, they treat us as if we have no souls.

Let's see - the companies in question have no soul and treat us strictly as commodities... i'm sorry but that does not leave any room for favors for them, no way, no how.

Nearly one year in, I'd like to ask the posters here what has been Obama's biggest achievement.

If a drone kills a child in Kandahar, do the crying parents make a sound?

MGA1619's picture

Well, so far as I can see, he hasn't had anything that could be called an achievement. In many respects, Obama has been worse than George Bush. With Bush you expected garbage and got it in bushel loads. Obama promised change and raised the hopes of millions and millions of people the world over. Thus far, the only thing that's changed is that the debacles that W brought about have been magnified and strengthened. Change we can believe in is actually correct. I believe that things are bad and going to get worse rather than better.

2) Improving US standings in international arena.

gogetem's picture

I'd agree with #2. But is that really much of an achievement? Just not being George Bush?

For all his grandiosity prior to the election, Obama is coming off as more of a pragmatic middle-of-the-road politician than an idealist.

next time, you simply start off with, "I really don't like Obama, I didn't vote for Obama, I'm rooting for his failure and I'm trying to make everyone that voted for him feel like a tool so that I can roll around in my own sanctimonious goo."

Dick Cheney is gone and that's a wonderful thing, oh, and the puppet (masquerading as president)is also gone.

You and I both know, that whatever he does he will be criticized and for the drive-through, quick-edit crowd nothing will ever be done fast enough.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but I could be wrong and I will happily admit it if I am, but you didn't vote for him did you?

gogetem's picture

You are right, I didn't vote for him. But that's only because I live in Canada otherwise I would have. But I celebrated his victory along with millions of others around the world. I was just trying to get a guage of what others think of his performance so far.

"

Emily and her sister Danielle play host to friends at their parents’ country house in the Hamptons. The weekend is poised for success. Murph, Emily’s boyfriend, has chosen this occasion to propose, their respective best friends seem to be hitting it off, and Danielle’s alienated boyfriend scores in the clutch by supplying the drugs. But when his bag of unicorn weed livens up the party, some of the group begin to suffer from a weird reaction. Inexplicable violence abruptly brings down their high. This October, a certain few friends are going to wish they hadn’t inhaled.

circulated for the ballot in California right now. At least one is guaranteed to qualify for next November's general election.

It's probably just beginning to dawn on certain people in "high" places that a major showdown is coming between California and the federal government.

It's one thing for Obama and Holder to call the dogs off as to the medical marijuana dispensaries that are all over Cali. But it is quite another thing to flat out legalize pot and tax it in order to pull California away from the breach of bankruptcy, which is what I believe is behind the initiative campaigns.

If Obama is serious about seeking re-election I don't think he's going to want to piss off California voters with a crackdown on pot right before his re-election campaign starts. Plus, reapportionment may add a few more electoral votes to Cali. Who knows?

It's interesting that in spite of Holder and Obama wanting to ease off on the dispensaries, the jerk D.A. in Los Angeles, Cooley, said he is determined to take the cops in and bust almost 1000 dispensaries in So.Cal he says are operating "illegally".

Shots Fired At Home Of CNN Reporter Lou Dobbs

We have just learned that someone has fired a gun at the home of Lou Dobbs, with his wife just a few feet away from the incident. The gunfire followed a series of threatening phone calls.

Lou Dobbs is being targeted by the pro-illegal alien groups and pundits who feel that Dobbs is stopping Amnesty from passing.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, the Anti Defamation League, the National Council of La Raza, Media Matters, and Geraldo Rivera of Fox News are using false information to foment hatred towards Lou Dobbs or any American who speaks out against Amnesty or illegal immigration.

They have pushed for Lou Dobbs to be fired, and since CNN has refused to do that, some people are now turning to violence to try and achieve their goals.

It was only a matter of time.
