Must be pretty cold where you live. Here it's coldish, December style.

And bluegal--- good job photoshopping that cute little child into the snowsuit. I can hardly tell. :)

I HATE PBS PLEDGE CACK!!!!111!!!

I will NEVER give those assholes another cent until they knock it off with the Celtic babe cack, River cack, the Suze Orman Wayne Dyer et al infomercials, the Christmas 'Special' bullshit, all that CRAP. Andrea Bocelli with a host of never heard of them and past it types on GP? Really? Are you fucking kidding me? Why not get Nana Mousaki or whatever the hell her name is up there? And the shitty specialty shows, where they get 4 old men who were never in the 4 tops to sing 4 tops songs and call it an evening w/ the 4 tops? That ancient Roy Orbison special the 50s dowop, now the Sullivan stuff?

Just fucking kill me. The thing that makes these most offensive is the parade of morons who get on every two songs (when it might be a good show-very annoying) and condescendingly tell everyone how lucky we are to have cack like this piped directly into our brains via PBS, and we should give money for more of the same...urgh. And they do it every other goddamned month now. I hate them hate them hate them.

I just had to vent. I'm going to watch a show on my computer now...

I'm not sure that I'm more pissed at PBS for running such dreck for pretty much the entire month or the govt for not funding PBS adequately so they must beg.

but the pledge thing screws up my PBS cooking show Saturday mornings, where I do a bowl and get busy in the kitchen after watching Lidia or Julia C.

With our CBC in Canada the money comes right out of our taxes so we don't have the pledge shows. They do have commercials though which sucks.

ron's picture

get commercials, it not going to be shown.

Arctic Dude's picture

I love my CBC, commercials and all. The radio is still free of it. Like what show can compete with Ideas or the Nature of Things for working the brain. Not CTV or the others.

CBC (and BBC): good stuff.

was a regular reefer smoker, she would never been so stressed that she would have killed herself. The mystery remains to be mysterious.

stress that was responsible for her death, but maybe the pot may have offered some relief.

I spent the fall reading a recent biography of hers. She was at least bipolar, and was diagnosed borderline schizophrenic in addition. Nearly everybody in her direct genetic line starting with her mother went mad and died in hospital or committed suicide. Not saying that the pot couldn't have helped at all, but she had too much going against her in the long run...

I saw a show recently about famous legs and famous walks. MM used to cut a 1/2 inch off one of her heels to give her that signature wiggle.

I have cable here (Korea) to get the channels with English. Many of the shows don't interest me that much, but there are movie channels too. Here they show commercials every half hour, or so, and often every hour, NOT every 7 minutes.

That part is GREAT!!!

Edwin's picture

I like old B&W shows and movies, and there are quite a few on YouTube. I guess they can post the old stuff. Most of it was way better anyway.

It's a matter of taste. My sister hates that old stuff, but I prefer it.

I can't afford to rent movies and have limited cable. The internet is a wealth of free classic Hollywood goodness. There is glamor and style till hell won't have it in those old films.

Edwin's picture

I've been watching a lot of the old B&W "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" and "Twilight Zone" lately. There are a lot of Hitchcock movies too. I've been through most of the early Leave it to Beaver. I think it's a boy's show? (Ladies, is it?) It makes me feel warm and cozy.

Hitchcock, whoah. I never realised how much of a humorist he really was until I finally got to see a few of his earliest British films. Outstanding stuff, and still fresh, fast-paced and original.

Much as I enjoy the pet photos on Americablog, that little girl is perfectly adorable. Have to say though would not be a good idea to start a similar collection of photos of kids. Would encourage too many pedophiles. Tragic that we have so many perverts running around and that kids aren't safe or free to be kids.

Andy K's picture

I really doubt that C&L will start doing anything akin to pet blogging.

Second: I believe that ron's comment below (@23:16) is spot-on. If after seeing a picture of a kid in snowsuit posted on a blog the first thing that pops into your head is pedophilia, you need to speak to a mental health professional. That was a very paranoid statement you made.

you need to deal with.

You'd figure it'd be one of the daughters, but the mom from Family Ties just outed herself. New York Dems don't care about gay people, while Congressional Dems don't care about the will of the people on Afghanistan. Australia votes against its carbon-trading legislation. Unemployment's consistent and even up in almost half the metro areas. A Joisey judge stops the RNC from bringing back voter intimidation. Could global warming give us a new Ice Age? Aussies give us McMansion envy. Courtesy of Hollywood Elsewhere, is Barry a Republican Manchurian Candidate? Europe says "Great speech, but we're not giving!" CSU colleges are forced to turn down applicants, due to funding shortages, but Ahnie is willing to bail out horse-racing. Meanwhile, in real news, Cali is forced to ration even more water next year. More bullshit from Murdoch on why the press is only free with an installment plan. Stem cell research continues. Oh, and our economy's somehow back, because people are spending, when it's probably just more debt. The latest GM CEO jumps ship. Millions of unemployed workers are running out of health care coverage from COBRA. L.A.'s finest public transportation drivers continue to strut their stuff. At least higher unemployment benefits are on the way. Barry pulls an Arnie on hard-working federal employees, by denying them cost of living increases.

Iran adapts the Western value of covering up torture. Wal-Mart forced to cough up $40 mil because they screwed workers out of breaks. Most Americans want a public option. The little girl in the photo is just too cute wearing her winter-ready outfit.
Thanks ...............

Tradition:
We "celebrate" the FIRST snow with a special dinner and have done so for over 30 years.
It is a fun thing to do especially if you have youngsters.
It should be a dish you make only once each year and easy enough to have the ingredients
in your pantry and freezer. If not an entree, then perhaps a special dessert.
Our dish is Country Pork Ribs with sauerkraut, onions, white wine and spices.

Our rule is snow flurries don't count. The snow must have the staying power of dressing
everything outside in white and not melt on contact.

Children love this tradition. It's fun!
Now, as empty nesters, with our family scattered in many locations, we get emails and
telephone calls saying, "Just heard about your weather today and we know what you're
having for dinner tonight."

Try it!

..but others do so I don't have to. So last night with KO's WPITW, he features the cranky and cantankerous bor making the Obama/osama gaff. But what was truly interesting and not mentioned on the WPITW segment was that the piece bor was about to do was on, and in bor's own words:"the claim that, and you're not going to believe this, bush let obam..osama go.." Well, Good Morning mr. o'reilly, where the F have you been? This first surfaced YEARS, yes, YEARS ago. Only now is the MSM giving it more air probably because osa..OBAMA needs to go into Afghanistan with more troops, costing us more money, TO FIX THE PROBLEMS CREATED BY THE WAR CRIMINAL w. Way to stay ahead..behind..under the curve, mr. o'reilly.

Mickey: "It was an epiphany. Do you know what an epipany is?"
Keoni: "NOT NOW MICKEY!"

Watch what happens. It snowed last night (a bit). Now's the time to dust off my mantra: "Spring's coming."

Cute photo.

BOPOHOK's picture

As Wiki rightfully notes,
"The three-month period associated with the coldest average temperatures typically begins somewhere in late November or early December in the Northern Hemisphere and lasts through late February or early March. This "thermological winter" is earlier than the solstice delimited definition, but later than the daylight (Celtic) definition."
Thus, it is most convenient to just assume (as most of the world does), that December through February are winter months, March-May are the spring and so forth.
And winter solstice is the MIDPOINT of the astronomical winter.
