The media and conservatives are going to be falling all over themselves today to claim that Sunday's murder of Dr. George Tiller was an "isolated incident."

Never mind, of course, that the killer -- one Scott Roeder -- was formerly a Freemen who was arrested in the 1990s for possessing bomb parts. Never mind that he was someone who had been filling his head with far-right propaganda for decades.

And never mind that Dr. Tiller was made into a national cause celebre, accused of "executing babies" by none other than Bill O'Reilly and the crew of far-right transmitters at Fox News.

No connection there, folks! Move along, move along.

Three years ago, O'Reilly and his ambush-crew specialist, Jesse Watters, went hard after Tiller, accusing him of wantonly murdering babies because he performs late-term abortions:

Bill summarized in a heartfelt Talking Points Memo on Friday, November 10th: "If we as a society allow an undefined mental health exception in late-term abortions, then babies can be killed for almost any reason... This is the kind of stuff that happened in Mao's China and Hitler's Germany and Stalin's Soviet Union... If we allow this, America will no longer be a noble nation... If we allow Dr. George Tiller and his acolytes to continue, we can no longer pass judgment on any behavior by anybody."

Including, evidently, murderous extremists. And, as you can see in the video above (from 2006), O'Reilly similarly accused anyone who refused to buy into his accusation of coddling killers:

I don’t care what you think. We have incontrovertible evidence that this man is executing babies about to be born because the woman is depressed…if you don’t believe me, I don’t care…You are OK with Dr. Tiller executing babies about to be born because the mother says she’s depressed.

O'Reilly later attacked Kathleen Sebelius for her refusal to prosecute Tiller. And he kept it up. As recently as this spring he again spent a segment excoriating Tiller as a murderer.

Priscilla at Newshounds ran through the file in March:

O’Reilly claimed, on his show (11/6/06), that he had medical records which showed that Dr. Tiller was “executing babies.” Without any basis, O’Reilly claimed that Tiller and another abortion provider were breaking a law and stated “George Tiller, “will execute babies for $5,000 if the mother is depressed.” (Comment: This goes beyond just “hurting” people as it was defamation based on Bill O’Reilly conjecture. Wonder what attorney Wendy Murphy thought about that!). On November 10th, O’Reilly made this incendiary statement, “If we allow Dr. George Tiller and his acolytes to continue, we can no longer pass judgment on any behavior by anybody. What Tiller is doing is that bad.” On 12/13/07 he interviewed a woman who claimed to have been deeply traumatized by a late term abortion at Tiller’s clinic. Bill then made his crusader call, in January 06, when he urged a massive protest at Tiller’s clinic; "There should be thousands of people protesting outside Tiller’s abortion clinic in Wichita," (Comment: Isn’t this nice. Bill urging rabid anti abortion protestors to scream at women, going into and inside Tiller’s clinic, who have made a very difficult decision. But then, Bill, like his Operation Rescue pals, is all about punishing those evil women who are “killing” their babies) Operation Rescue picked this up and put out the call. (Operation Rescue, who carry O’Reilly’s articles in their newspaper, has had numerous criminal charges against them) In February, Bill sent out his stalker, Porter Barry, to stalk Tiller who immediately called 9-11. Operation Rescue reported that “O’Reilly’s staff used the Tiller Report II, produced by Operation Rescue, to learn more about the infamous late term abortionist.” (Comment: Talk about partisan journalism – using anti abortion information from a rabid anti abortion group to support a nationally televised attack on Tiller by a rabid anti abortion “journalist” on a “fair and balanced” network.”) It should be noted that because of the type of incendiary rhetoric, articulated by O’Reilly, Dr. Tiller has required police protection from homicidal “pro-lifers.”

In May of 2007, O’Reilly interviewed Kansas State Rep. Ben Hodge and went after the woman who will be our next Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius (then governor of Kansas): “I didn't see any outcry by the people of Kansas for this governor basically saying, hey Tiller you kill as many fetuses as you want for whatever reason you want. That's what the governor is saying” (No, Bill, that’s not what the governor said; but your misrepresentation probably got a lot of fellow pro-lifers “locked and loaded.”.) As noted by News Hounds, O’Reilly used “flaming” language to describe Tiller such as “killer, murder, murderer, barbarian, barabaric procedure, disgrace.” In June, O’Reilly recommended activism.” He said that “if the state of Kansas doesn't stop this man, then anybody who prevents that from happening has blood on their hands as the governor does right now, Governor Sebelius. All Americans, no matter if you're pro-choice, pro-life, whatever, should be getting in touch with Governor Sebelius' office and saying enough, because this is just a disgrace.”

O'Reilly no doubt will vociferously deny that he's to blame for Tiller's murder -- just as he similarly denied any culpability for the murders committed by Jim David Adkisson last summer when he walked into that Unitarian church in Knoxville and began blasting away. That was another "isolated incident" -- even though authorities later found O'Reilly's books in Adkisson's home, and his anti-liberal manifesto read like it was ripped straight from one of O'Reilly's "Talking Points Memos."

Indeed, O'Reilly was so incensed at being connected to those murders that he sent out ambush crews to attack a couple of Newsday journalists who in fact pointed out the connection.

No doubt he'll be in a full-on ragefest today, attacking anyone who points out how he helped inspire this killing. Someone should just call the Waaaaaaaaahmbulance now and get it over with. But no matter how much he rages and shouts and spits and sends out ambush crews, the public is starting to get the picture about just how grotesquely irresponsible a media figure O'Reilly really is.

This is one of the major themes of my book, The Eliminationists: How Hate Talk Radicalized the American Right: That violent and hateful rhetoric has a real effect on its listeners -- essentially giving them permission to act out violently.

No one wants to take away O'Reilly free-speech rights. But members of the media in particular have an important burden to also use their speech responsibly. And Bill O'Reilly is one of the most irresponsible talkers in the mainstream media.

As I explained previously:

No one here has said anything about silencing their voices -- we just want them to face up to the consequences of their irresponsible rhetoric. It's called culpability: They obviously are not criminally culpable, nor likely even civilly culpable. But they are morally and ethically culpable.

... We strongly believe that there's a clear, common-sense connection between the paranoiac fearmongering that has passed for right-wing rhetoric since well before Obama's election (and has become acute since) and violence like that in Pittsburgh, or in Knoxville: horrifying tragedies, in which the sources of the criminal's unambiguous motives are that very same hysterical fearmongering -- whether it's about the evil socialists, stinking immigrants, or conspiring gun-grabbers who've taken over the country since Election Day.

... The point is not to silence the people saying these things, but to point out how grotesquely irresponsible they are -- in the hopes that they will cease doing so, and start acting responsibly. It's their choice to use irresponsible rhetoric. It's not just our choice but our duty, as responsible citizens, to stand up and speak out about it.

And make no mistake: Rhetoric that whips up irrational fears among the public, that demonizes and dehumanizes and scapegoats -- that's irresponsible rhetoric. And we are calling the American Right on it.

... And what we know from experience about volatile, unstable actors like [Scott Roeder] is that they can be readily induced into violent action by hateful rhetoric that demonizes and dehumanizes other people. And thanks to human nature and those same freedoms, we will certainly always have fearmongering demagogues among us. But the purveyors of such profoundly irresponsible rhetoric need to be called on it -- especially when they hold the nation's media megaphones.

accessory to murder.
I like the sound of that.

Bill O'Reilly just appears one of their dirty propagandists.

This domestic terrorism of the Republican party should get made an issue in 2010. The leaders of the Republican party have railed against a legal procedure for years. I consider it the point we call the GOPranos for what they do, domestic terrorism and now we have another Doctor's body as evidence.

The GOP sanctions its presidential candidates inciting hate against their opponents (Palin claiming Obama pals around w/terrorists), their spokespeople like O'Reilly, Savage, Malkin, Ingraham, Coulter, Limbaugh, etc. without fail ALL use the same hate rhetoric and incitement techniques. I haven't seen the GOP denounce this, in fact, they seem to relish it and use it themselves. The are domestic terrorists.

bravo, but wishful thinking.

The right-wing always speak about "personal responsibility" until they do not like the outcome of their words or deeds. Mr. O'Reilly is definitely a spokesman for the Right-Wing Terrorists.

Yes, Mr. O'Reilly, if you and any of your minions are mamning this site, let me tell you sir, that you are: 1. a coward; 2. a terrorist yourself; 3. a no-good son of a bitch; and 4. a liar. And yes, O'Reilly, from now on your inciteful words and hateful language and continuous harassment of others needs to be looked into as criminal complaints.

I believe yes, you, Mr. O'Reilly should be investigated to see if you have violated any criminal codes for your hateful language and continued harassment and stalking of others, over the years. Stalking is a crime for which I believe you have yet to be prosecuted but should be. O'Reilly should not escape investigation by law enforcement officials and this includes others like Beck, Hannity, Savage, Levine, and Limbaugh.

On another note, the man who killed Dr. Tiller did not act alone, but had plenty of support and help from the likes of O'Reilly, Hannity, Coulter, Savage, the Catholic Church, Christian Fundamentalists, and others like Terrorist Randall Terry-who was spreading his terrorist, anti-women message on the Thom Hartmann program in the first hour today.

These right-wing Terrorists would just be taking up another violent cause if they were not on their anti-women, hating women violent tour on a daily basis.

This following column by Mike Hendricks of the Wichita Eagle says it best in my opinion in his column titled “Tiller's killers were many,” that:

"By mid-afternoon, authorities reportedly had someone in custody in connection with the murder of Wichita abortion doctor George Tiller at his church on Sunday morning...So far, we know very little about the suspect, other than that he's a man in his 50s and was driving a blue Ford when they stopped him outside Gardner....However, the motive for the crime we can all surmise in light of the vitriolic campaign that has been waged against Tiller for more than two decades by anti-abortion groups....And if we're right about that, then we already know the identities of his accomplices. They include every one who has ever called Tiller's late term abortion clinic a murder mill....Who ever called Tiller "Tiller the Killer." The groups who spent decades fomenting hate toward a man who simply believed that he was serving a purpose by being one of the few doctors in the country performing late-term abortions. Hate. Not heated opposition. Not strong disagreement. But blind hatred. The kind of hate that would prompt some maniac to take a gun into a church and shoot a man to death in front of friends and family...."

does not mean you are allowed to incite violence and promote it through low-level implications.

You know, there is accessory to murder and other crimes, in which, one does not have to be present to be found guilty. Mr. O'Reilly does promote violence and certainly incites it every night out on his show. Now, O'Reilly may play it down some, but the message that he supports violence is clear and can easily be backed up by watching old shows of him doing just that. Hannity also uses language which incites violence.

Using language that makes other people appear to be "less than" as human beings is hateful and carries potentially dangerous outcomes.

I believe in free speech too. But free speech does not mean one should be free from prosecution when their language contributes to harmful acts of violence and when they use a platform which harasses and stalks others.

In my opinion, free speech also has limits.

First off I'd like to say Liberals > living in reality. But let me ask you this before I go back to real life: so if someone shoots Bill O'Reilly tomorrow for inciting the murder of Dr. Tiller, can I blame all of you on here for inciting the murder of Bill O'Reilly?
.... so i guess this means you lose this one, huh guys?

Are his hands well-stained from always scratching his ass?

will pay with their lives.

Billo knows exactly what the Creator of the Universe wants.

Be warned.

I know the Tiller family is now grieving, but they should explore a lawsuit against O'Reilly for his encouragement of domestic terrorism, which is what Dr. Tiller's murder is. But perhaps the Wichita D.A. could also explore conspiracy, inciting to murder or some other charge against O'Reilly.
This hate must not continue. There is a difference between abortion, which is permitted by U.S. law, and killing the already-born, which is not.

how about a major national boycott
of billo's sponsors and radio/tv stations.

perhaps everywhere billo goes, someone
can ambush him like his posse of journalists.
and i do mean everywhere he goes..no peace for
this asswipe.

Off topic.

Dave, I didn't sight any Blue whales but, I did see some Humpbacks and a pod of Orcas near Juneau.

When Bill called for Dr. Tiller to be stopped, I would like to ask him what means he felt would be the right ones to stop him. I don't know if Bill and the others realize how combustible their words are, but they surely should. Whether Bill himself was the impetus for what happened yesterday, I don't know. But I do know that his sort of language could indeed cause someone who is already in possession of a simple brain to do something they might not otherwise be encouraged to do.

At any cost .. to save lives... Whatever can be done MUST...

he has unleashed his hate on millions... his death would save lives!"

If a group called Left Out that supported pro-choice causes were to to support radical causes like ELF and were to say this, do you honestly think they would not already be in jail?

Of course O'Lielly knows exactly what he's doing. Or he's a bigger idiot than I ever imagined.

O'Reilly and all the rest of these rightwing eliminationist hate mongers need to be called to a legal accounting for their actions and the consequences of their words. The freedom of speech famously does not include the right to cry "Fire" in a crowded theater and they have been screaming it at the top of their lungs for decades. We also need to go after the churches and ministers who foster and promote such barbarity, declaring them terrorist organizations. We have done the same to Muslim groups who are far less actively involved in terrorism.

fox had ms sebelius labeled as a 'pro-choice feminist'

where was o'really's label saying he was a 'forced-pregnancy mysongonist' ??

However, there's no truth at Fox News.

So

Billo can now add "terrorist" and "murderer" to his long list of titles. He's rapidly replacing Limbaugh at the top of my list of disgustingly repugnant useless blobs of protoplasm.

Assassination.

An act of political terrorism.

QFT.

I'm sure he'll call on the christians to renounce their extremists just as he did with the muslims right? Right?

Evangelical Christians are the enemies of freedom and progress.

Their cult is by definition unamerican. Here is the short list of

Bible atrocities. They have fought tooth and nail against every

scientific and social advancement since Christ allegedly walked the

Earth. I can think of no more subversive and ubiquitous element in

American culture and politics. We need to see these people for

what they are, a clear and present danger to all

those who want to live in a just a peaceful society.

...and didn't see one mention of this case.

It was all GM and AirFrance. Will they send those companies thank-you notes for their great timing?

.

It IS curious how many of these plane crashes always seem to come at very politically opportune times. This isn't the first instance...

You can assume that Bill O'Reilly will send one of his goons after the Mr. Neiwert to harass him at his home or workplace. O'Reilly will cite Crooks and Liars as "another left-wing hate site." He doesn't understand that if one calls someone a baby-killer/murderer/Nazi/executioner enough times, someone will take him up on the offer. Actually, he does understand that; he just pretends he doesn't. meanwhile, Glenn Beck will continue his anti-government/secession/tea party/militia tirades in order to further incite his flock. Maybe to the point of another Kansas City-style anti-government massacre.

thinking that 150 or so waterboardings of the arrested terrorist, asking him how his partner, o'whinny, helped and aided him should find enough evidence to attack and find guilty said partner. this type of operation worked so well keeping us safe for 7 1/2 years that I can't see that our right wing faction should have any complaints.

Was only a matter of time. I'm pro-choice, but do believe late-term abortions are pretty disgusting. It's a decision that will likely haunt any mother who goes through with it the rest of her life. The right likes to dehumanize the people it doesn't agree with, just like we like to do it as well. It's one thing to practice abortions, but late-term are so hot-button and controversial, even to people who support the abortion practice, that it was only a matter of time before someone tried to kill this guy.

n/t

do you think for one moment that a woman can get a late term abortion on a whim or as a life-style choice. Women undergo that procedure for a reason, to save her life or to relieve a horribly deformed fetus of a short life of extreme pain. Yes it will haunt the mother and that is why I have the utmost respect for a woman who makes that choice and no respect at all for anyone who would deny her that choice. the conservative movement has blood on their hands again. This incident makes the Homeland security meme on right wing terrorists prescient and all the more urgent to investigate

and revisit it?

The Wingers screamed so much when it was released that the media immediately shifted focus from the warnings in it and got all apologetic for even reporting it - but it talked about just this; right-wing extremist domestic violence.

How many of these deaths and bombings do we have to put up with from within our borders before we can face the truth without the media playing accessory to the Wingers?

And spot on.

Whatever a woman's reasons, if a fetus is non-viable, it's her call as to whether she goes full term or not. Period. End of story. Whether you think it's "disgusting" or not, it should be between a woman and her doctor.

It's only "hot button" because agitators like O'Reilly make it one to rile up his mostly right-wing male audience who don't like the idea of women having any control whatsoever over their own bodies when it comes to reproduction.

long and varied life I've known of one person that had a late term abortion. The baby was anencephalic - it essentially had no brain, it also had very severe spina bifida and many other health issues. The child would have been born only to die. It was a horrific and tragic event for this woman, in fact so traumatizing that she decided to never attempt to have another child. These things are absolutely NO ONE's business except the people involved.

"late term abortions" aren't doing so because it just occurred to them that they didn't want a child after all. My understanding is that they are almost always performed because something drastic is the matter with the fetus, or some poor kid has finally admitted that her stepfather/funny uncle/neighbor has been molesting her for months or years. It is a procedure that is seldom performed, but one of the reasons that it is such a "hot button" issue is because the pro-life movement would like everyone to believe that the doctors are practically taking living children and drowning them.

At the same time, all of the laws on abortion need to be flexible enough to consider when a child is viable, as medical science finds new ways to keep smaller and smaller babies alive. At some point abortion has to be no longer a viable procedure and adoption must be considered.

From what I've been reading, he saved mothers' lives OR in the case of 1 baby - he/she had a fatal bone disease that meant if the baby was born naturally OR by c-section, every bone in his/her body would be broken in the process and then die a horribly agonizing death.

The man had to be pretty brave to step up to the plate and perform these sorts of operations. I read several other stories where Dr. Tiller saved lives. If he was in it for the money there were plenty of other ways for someone to get rich as a doctor. He was willing to do the needed operations no one else would.

)O(

Plastic surgeons to the stars?

I'm sure that's the practice Dr. Frankenstein would have today.

get him to name Bill-O as a co-conspirator, and ship Bill off to Gitmo...

Seems fair...

He knows that waterboarding isn't torture and Gitmo is a tropical paradise.

From reading yesterday what nurses had to say, most if not all late term abortions are done to save the mother's life and I don't mean because the mother doesn't find it convenient to have a child, but because the mother is bleeding to death or the child is so horribly malformed that it could never live.

It's convenient to focus on late term abortions rather than birth control. It's also convenient to focus on terrorists rather than cheeseburgers. More americans will die from cheeseburgers not WMD but that's an inconvenient truth. The right wing zealots need to be checked on their priorities.

Cheeseburgers will be the death of me.

I may have to swear off red meat.

but largely. In the case I'm familiar with the infant was so horribly malformed that it would have died either during or shortly after birth. For most women, pregnancy is a walk in the park, however, women tend to have their babies later in life now and that makes it much more difficult for some. I have personally taken care of quite a few women that developed life-threatening conditions during or after giving birth. It's not always easy, natural or textbook.

So in addition to chickenhawk, pervert, and coward, BillO can add accessory-to-murder to his list of titles.

has me seriously depressed, even more so than I'd have expected. Of course that's been building, fed by the hypocrisy and blatant lies about Judge Sotomayer and anyone else with whom the rabid right doesn't agree. I realized that the degree of my anxiety and pain is not only the unjust death of Dr. Tiller, but also the fear that there'll be more senseless vigilante killings. My concern for President Obama's safety in particular and our country in general increases every hour.

I agree and I pray for Obama's safety everyday. If the right wing does manage to assinate him , this country will go up in flames

I reassure myself by reminding myself that bush stayed safe for eight years and there were a whole lot of people who detested him for so many things he did.

more often uses words as weapons rather than guns and bombs. Perhaps there have been more liberal people who've gone on killing rampages, but I can't think of them at the moment.

Yeah, unfortunately the right wing is much better armed. You really can't snark someone to death.

But

I'm going to try my damnedest!

)O(

J'all ever see that episode of the Simpson's Halloween Special with King Snarky of the Dolphins?

I'm right there with you in your every emotion.

)O(

It just reminds me of how divided the country is, and how I actually am friends with some people who will say that Tiller's murder was justified. That anyone can claim that kind of thought process makes me want to vomit. The religious bit bothers me too--I am pretty sure I'm an atheist, but am interested in the Christian religion from a historical and psychological standpoint. It's pretty disheartening realizing just how many really horrible, horrible people there are that claim the Christian religion, and how the good people seem unwilling or unable to denounce the evil within their midst (this murder and the Catholic scandals come to mind).

I just swiped this from a Kos post and it's from the most recent DHS report.

"Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration."

You could prevent a lot of crime if they could abort "the right wing extremeists."

fucking right wing christian domestic terrorists

The American Taliban

"Who me"?

Yes, you!

I can see some rethug taking out Loffa with a ray gun and claiming he heard god telling him to.

...the only way to force these RW hacks to take responsibility is for the law to charge them with accessory before and after the fact. Starting with faleful-head.

Not just for all of the inflammatory and stupid things he has said about this issue on his show, but for EXPLOITING this young woman by having her come on and graphically explain how Dr. Tiller aborted her 'Baby.'

If she was so attached to the fetus and wanted to love and raise her 'baby' then she could have done so. Dr. Tiller was not the one who made the Decision to unceremoniously abort her 'baby' - more than likely it was her Christian parents who were shamed by the fact that their precious little girl had unprotected sex at 14.

If I were a betting person, I'd bet that BOR has paid for more than one abortion for some chick he knocked up along the way.

A man called in to Washington Journal this morning and identified himself as a black man. He said everyone knows damned well if he impregnated one of these anti abortionist white daughters, they would see that she got an abortion without even having to think about it.

He's probably right.

or some other Winger, who said that the legalization of abortion had resulted in lowering crime rates because so many potential black thugs were never born?

It's good when these people show their true colors, and I don't mean black and white. But how did we ever let them get control?

Read my post at 7:35.

We didn't actually let them......they took it. Or, rather they stole it. And, they are continuing to steal our country right out from under us every day.

I am not much for conspiracy theories, but reading about the voting irregularities in the 04 election has convinced me that yes, indeed, that election was stolen. Scary shit.

Now they are inflaming their base with the belief that they are the ones who have been stolen from and they must arm themselves and prepsre to take it back by force.

So, if we try and fight back, evey attempt we make is portrayed by them as an attack on "their" country.

They are not just thieves, they are propagandists willing to use any and all means to take and hold power.

or expel her from their 'community.'

why the Anti-Abortion movement is so couched in blaming the doctors who perform them, and nobody else in any real sense. They know that to propose persecuting and prosecuting the actual people who receive them would be to threaten people who are otherwise on their side. In other words, the people who talk the talk about the evils of abortion, but who in the end, in the real world, really have no commitment to not seek one out themselves or their loved ones if they were put in the position of having to decide.

If the official position of the anti-abortion movement was to shift to believing that people who seek them out or actually receive them had to face the death penalty, or life in prison, their base would quickly shrink down to Eric Rudolph, Alan Keyes, Scott Roeder, and maybe a few patients at the local mental ward.

Such a contentious issue.

We will repel in horror when a newborn is found in a box along the road and cry in outrage. Yet we will defend to the end a mother’s right to abort a pregnancy up to the point of birth. Is there that much of a difference between the two? A matter of weeks, or days? For the baby, sadly no.

But that is the way it is – and we have decided that’s the way it should be.

Since few except the most devout would argue that a multi-cell zygote/blastome is a human: endowed with all the rights thereof; since few would argue that a baby is not viable weeks before delivery, we as a society must draw a line in the sand. We must make a decision who is to decide when that life is worth preserving. That decision is the mother’s alone, until birth. That is the line we have drawn, and it is the fairest we can possibly be when comparing the rights of the mother and the child.

That is the also the law. Cry murder. Cry infanticide. Cry yourself to sleep if you will. But don’t cry that those who decide to step closer to that line than you like to be stopped at all costs. Don’t cry for the execution of those who are innocent.

But this isn’t about abortion per se. It is about inflaming the contention in this non-issue. Making blood out of thin air - Billy has blood on his hands.

A doctor is now dead. Are we not entertained?

)O(

Yup...

Umm

No. I don't watch any of that crap and I think that those that claim it's entertainment do so because they like it but lack the stones to stand up and say they like it.

"We will repel in horror when a newborn is found in a box along the road and cry in outrage. Yet we will defend to the end a mother’s right to abort a pregnancy up to the point of birth. Is there that much of a difference between the two? A matter of weeks, or days? For the baby, sadly no."

The decision in Roe v. Wade was that abortion was permissible *until the end of the second trimester*, ie, 26 weeks of pregnancy, which was below the limit of viability at the time the decision was made. Even now, a 26-week newborn won't survive without a lot of intensive care. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt that many in the pro-choice community would really feel that aborting a fetus much beyond that point was justifiable.

What a difference a day makes. There is still that line in the sand.

I contend that only the mother can determine the justification of an abortion. The time between 2nd and 3rd trimester is too arbitrary and too easily toyed with. I don’t like late-term abortions, I don’t like that the decision must be made, but it is not my decision to make, thankfully.

As for the entertainment value of Billy – he is nothing but for the conflict he inflames. Those who watch Billy do so with the same zeal and desire for carnage that the Romans so desired in their coliseums. Those who watched the gladiator games thirsted for blood, but were at least fed bread. All we get by watching Billy is carnage and a commercial selling pasta.

(FYI - The title of my post is a quote from Gladiator.)

Can someone explain the difference between christian extremists who murder abortion doctors and muslim extremists who murder and why we as a country are going after one group with all the money we can throw at it and pretty much ignore the other group until something like this happens? oh yeah, i forgot, muslim extremists tend to live in areas rich in oil....

if you try and apply logic.

Cuba must be blockaded because they are nasty Communists, when in reality they are a tiny island country stuck in poverty.

China is fine to indebt ourselves to, and to send all of our manufacturing jobs to, and to buy all their cheap-ass poisonous crap from, even though they are also nasty Communists, and, in reality, are a huge powerful country being made increasingly wealthy - by us.

Pass the aspirin, please.

extemists...
The color of their suits?

It seems as though Dr. Tiller was O'Reilly's target. The irony of Dr. Tiller's death is horrific,

It's the fault of all these Fake Religious, Reslug zealots, that are full of hatred and think nothing of murder if they disagree, like O'Lielly and his ignorant ilk.

It's time these people are held accountable. They're not politicians and can't get away with everything. You can't yell fire in a crowded movie theater without facing consequences. That is not free speech. Neither is inciting violence with the hate you spew four hours a day on radio and television. Arrest them all.

I see that killer of Dr. Tiller was a "freeman" at one time. I don't know much if anything about them, but it seems like it's an anti-government group that the likes of Glenn Beck would support.

So it's not only BOR who is to blame; it is people like Glenn Beck who support this type of anti-government vigilantism.

These right wing hate mongers are very dangerous for this country. I wonder what Limpballs is saying about this today?

I have seen this, time and again: O'Reilly and other right-wingers rant and scream. Liberals (and other normal people) disagree, but don't get TOO upset about it. "He should not have been murdered, but there are two sides to this!"

ENOUGH! It is past time for mentally-healthy Americans on teevee to get MAD. Show it! There are NOT 2 sides to murder. And remember -- this poor man was harassed for DECADES for performing a LEGAL procedure. The country should have protected him. But no. They let these very mentally ill freaks have their way.

I want to see Keith and Rachel and Ed and all the middle-of-the-roaders on TV SHOW their anger. We all know that MANY so-called Pro-Lifers have HAD abortions -- and will have more if they need to. But they still yap as if they didn't.

Enough!

He had to drive in an armored car and live in a gated community with security just because he was doing his job. That shouldn't go on in America at all. Also, I don't see these fake "compassionate, pro-life Christians" mentioning the fact that Dr. Tiller was a father and grandfather. What about those children left behind? Wait - they're not fetuses, so who cares?

The time is now to contact the networks, Oprah et al and remind them not to book this extremist the next time he has a book to peddle.

that fucker had the nerve, as he was talking about Elizabeth Edwards, to say, regarding her recent book, "Why did she write it, it's not like she needs the money." I was stunned at the hypocrisy. I hope someone will ask him that the next time he's peddling his crap.

The family needs to file a multi-million dollar wrongful death suit against Fox News and Bill O'Reilly personally.

multi-million dollar / multi-BILLION dollar wrongful death suit against Fox News and Bill O'Reilly personally.

When the GOP is in power they never really DO anything about abortion do they?

NOW Identifies Murder of Dr. George Tiller As Domestic Terrorism, Calls for Action from Justice Department and Homeland Security

.. Dr. Tiller's slaying is the most recent in a string of murders in the service of the anti-abortion cause, and hundreds of people have been injured or threatened because they provide legal abortion services. Bringing the killers to justice is not enough - the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security must root out and prosecute as domestic terrorists and violent racketeers the criminal enterprise that has organized and funded criminal acts for decades. We call on the new attorney general Eric Holder and head of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to treat these murders in the same way they would treat politically-motivated domestic terrorism of any other kind and put the full resources of their two departments behind that effort. ..

being cute babies and total asshole adults? The killer(s) of Dr. Tiller were once cute little babies, so-called god's children. Kind of throws a bit of a wrench in the hate rhetoric of the pro-lifer christian taliban; but then of course they'd just say they were doing the lord's work.

about pro-lifers actually being just pro-birthers. Because the second a baby is born, they do everything in their power to make their lives miserable.

elementary connection that all those nasty things that he likes to talk about during phone sex with his producer could, just possibly could, end in an unwanted pregnancy. And as the "fresh piece of humanity", who listened so carefully in Catholic School all those years ago knows, he'd have to step forward, put his moral reputation on the line and own up. That would be no problem for a man of his ethics, but some sleazy jerky creepy phone sex addicts might want their girlfriend to have an abortion. Gotta be someone to provide those. If for no other reason than his solidarity with other phone sexers, you'd think he'd just keep his big mouth shut.

I'd just like to say that I am supremely impressed by Amy Richards' ability to stay calm and stick to facts while being screamed at by a raving lunatic.

I see the FBI can bust some fool with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder illiterate in NY but hey if you're an known wannabe abortion clinic bomber in a federal list you might just slip through.

The mass media would do well to cover it's complicit ass by calling Tiller's killer a Terrorist ...

I never get incredulous watching BO anymore, except for this clip! How the hell is this girl going on television with her name and face and saying over and over again that Tiller "killed her baby." Did Tiller come get her from the East coast, bring her back to Kansas, and force her against her will to tie her to the bed? Apparently she was there for a full five days before "leaving her baby in the toilet" as she so sanctimoniously put it. She was pregnant for a full 20 weeks (which is approx. 5 months--showing and everything) and THEN decided to abort, and NOW blames everyone but herself? No one forced her to do this, and I'm sure there exists a contract somewhere with her and/or her parents' signatures on it that gave Tiller the go-ahead to do all of those things. Hypocrisy on a platter.

I love one of the last lines of the second clip. For those of you that didn't make it that far (and I don't blame you), after BO made her agree with the statement that she is ok with 10 year olds having abortions in the case of rape, she makes him agree with the statement that he will distort and misrepresent the actual experiences that make women decide to get abortions. BO confirmed that was his position and then gave the audience the chance to decide who was more noble. Hmm, not a hard choice for me, being a woman.

this poor, simple girl are so easily manipulated. She probably should have received extensive counseling, but I will imagine she received none. I've known a few people that were like her, someone else, parent, husband, boyfriend advocated the abortion, she went along and then had trouble mentally reconciling the event. She's now being manipulated again, for no one's gain but that smarmy O'Reilly.

Bill O'Reilly...killer clown.

They did it quite a lot last year.

They called for lynchings. They called for gunman to kill candidates, they called for riots, they called for outright murder.

Look up Michael Reagan calling for the murder of a radio host.

O'Reilly calling for the lynching of Obama.
Hell, look at him trying to rally racists, and stand on the side of rapists and pedophiles.... and not even be subtle about it. He loves them.... and the religious right.

Cheney and Bush had their secret prison, and rumors of hired assassins have been floating around.

You've got people like Coulter, Limbaugh and Malkin outright calling for murder, then pretending to act surprised when people actually killed others.

I'm sure that many have noticed how often we have prominent GOP members act like hateful, thieving, lying, amoral, racist, sexually repressed deviants.

Makes you wonder if being a right wing extremists isn't a mental disease.

In fact, there's a book that describes it as such.

Look up Bob Altemeyer's; The Authoritarians. It's a very good read that describes the mentality of monsters like O'Reilly, Hannity, and Limbaugh.

It may be an illness. It's certainly a scourge.

Charles Manson is spending the rest of his life in prison for telling his loony, malleable "family" to wreak Helter Skelter at the Tate and LaBianca homes. He never personally stuck a knife into any of them.

How is this any different?

Bill O'Reilly and the management of Fox News Channel ought to be charged with the same crime that sent Charles Manson to prison for life.

..and adopt the child who was born at the expense of the woman who bore it or at least pay all the medical bills. It won't have the same gut-wrenching emotion or impact for him that the family who lost their mother will have to live with but maybe..nah, who am I kidding.

...preferably held w/out bail on Riker's Island pending trial.

That's it!!!
I can't listen to these people any more. I'll read their shit if I have to, but this just makes me physically ill.
These people are souless monsters who will say anything do anything kill anything to sustasin the illusion of their wealth and comfort.
For their psychotic delusions of patriotism and god they would murder a man in his church.
They are terrorists.
God damn them all

In the wake of the shooting of late-term abortionist George Tiller, President Barack Obama sent out a welcome message that this nation would not tolerate attacks on pro-lifers or any other Americans because of their religion or beliefs.

Ha ha! Just kidding. That was the lead sentence -- with minor edits -- of a New York Times editorial warning about theoretical hate crimes against Muslims published eight months after 9/11. Can pro-lifers get a hate crimes bill passed and oceans of ink devoted to assuring Americans that "most pro-lifers are peaceful"?

For years, we've had to hear about the grave threat that Americans might overreact to a terrorist attack committed by 19 Muslims shouting "Allahu akbar" as they flew commercial jets into American skyscrapers. That would be the equivalent of 19 pro-lifers shouting "Abortion kills a beating heart!" as they gunned down thousands of innocent citizens in Wichita, Kan.

Why aren't liberals rushing to assure us this time that "most pro-lifers are peaceful"? Unlike Muslims, pro-lifers actually are peaceful.

According to recent polling, a majority of Americans oppose abortion -- which is consistent with liberals' hysterical refusal to allow us to vote on the subject. In a country with approximately 150 million pro-lifers, five abortionists have been killed since Roe v. Wade.

In that same 36 years, more than 49 million babies have been killed by abortionists. Let's recap that halftime score, sports fans: 49 million to five.

Meanwhile, fewer than 2 million Muslims live in America and, while Muslims are less murderous than abortionists, I'm fairly certain they've killed more than five people in the United States in the last 36 years. For some reason, the number "3,000" keeps popping into my head.

So in a country that is more than 50 percent pro-life -- and 80 percent opposed to the late-term abortions of the sort performed by Tiller -- only five abortionists have been killed. And in a country that is less than 0.5 percent Muslim, several dozen Muslims have killed thousands of Americans.

But the killing of about one abortionist per decade leads liberals to condemn the entire pro-life movement as "domestic terrorists." At least liberals have finally found some terrorists they'd like to send to Guantanamo.

Tiller bragged about performing 60,000 abortions, including abortions of viable babies, able to survive outside the mother's womb. He made millions of dollars performing late-term abortions so gruesome that only two other abortionists -- not a squeamish bunch -- in the entire country would perform them.

Kansas law allows late-term abortions only to save the mother's life or to prevent "irreversible physical damage" to the mother. But Tiller was more than happy to kill viable babies, provided the mothers: (1) forked over $5,000; and (2) mentioned "substantial and irreversible conditions," which, in Tiller's view, apparently included not being able to go to concerts or rodeos or being "temporarily depressed" on account of their pregnancies.

In return for blood money from Tiller's profitable abattoir, Democrats ran a political protection racket for the late-term abortionist.

In 1997, The Washington Post reported that Tiller attended one of Bill Clinton's White House coffees for major campaign contributors. In addition to a $25,000 donation to Clinton, Tiller wanted to thank him personally for 30 months of U.S. Marshals' protection paid for by the U.S. taxpayer.

Kansas Democrats who received hundreds of thousands of campaign dollars from Tiller repeatedly intervened to block any interference with Tiller's abortion mill.

Kathleen Sebelius, who was the governor of Kansas until Obama made her Health and Human Services Secretary, received hundreds of thousands of campaign dollars from Tiller. Sebelius vetoed one bill restricting late-term abortions and another one that would have required Tiller to turn over his records pertaining to "substantial and irreversible conditions" justifying his late-term abortions.

Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison also got elected with the help of Tiller's blood money, replacing a Republican attorney general who was in the middle of an investigation of Tiller for various crimes including his failure to report statutory rapes, despite performing abortions on pregnant girls as young as 11.

But soon after Morrison replaced the Republican attorney general, the charges against Tiller were reduced and, in short order, he was acquitted of a few misdemeanors. In what is a not uncommon cost of doing business with Democrats, Morrison is now gone, having been forced to resign when his mistress charged him with sexual harassment and corruption.

Tiller was protected not only by a praetorian guard of elected Democrats, but also by the protective coloration of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America -- coincidentally, the same church belonged to by Tiller's fellow Wichita executioner, the BTK killer.

The official Web page of the ELCA instructs: "A developing life in the womb does not have an absolute right to be born." As long as we're deciding who does and doesn't have an "absolute right to be born," who's to say late-term abortionists have an "absolute right" to live?

I wouldn't kill an abortionist myself, but I wouldn't want to impose my moral values on others. No one is for shooting abortionists. But how will criminalizing men making difficult, often tragic, decisions be an effective means of achieving the goal of reducing the shootings of abortionists?

Following the moral precepts of liberals, I believe the correct position is: If you don't believe in shooting abortionists, then don't shoot one.

throw this older dude in roeder's jail cell to help keep him warm. these arre two examples of the growing mental illness in this country/culture.
