Malkin's latest screed on Obamas' 'culture of corruption' has a distinctly Clintonesque scent

Michelle Malkin has a new book out. If it's as well researched as her two most recent outings -- which featured the classic right-wing technique of gathering any smidgen of evidence one can find to support a thesis (no matter how dubious or downright false) while carefully excising any smidgen of contradictory evidence (no matter how mountainous) -- it promises to be a real mess.
Malkin was on Sean Hannity's program last night touting it. I was particularly interested in how she described it -- heavy on innuendo, intimations of shady dealings, and a major emphasis on First Lady Michelle Obama as a kind of Machiavellian manipulator running the show from behind the scenes. She labels her "the First Crony."
This has a familiar ring, doesn't it? The wingnut right attacked Bill Clinton relentlessly as a corrupt Southerner involved in shady dealings (think Whitewater or Mena), while the Evil Hillary ran the show behind the scenes. And the mainstream right made heavy use of these attacks.
It's just deja vu all over again.
Especially the complete and utter loss of perspective:
Hannity: Now that you've done all this research -- and I'll let the audience, because you really, with great specificity and detail, go into the corruption -- how corrupt is this administration compared to others?
Malkin: Well, I think you have to judge them by their rhetoric. And if you look at the gap between the rhetoric and the reality, this has to be one of the corrupt, most corrupt administrations in recent memory.
Hmmm. I dunno about you, but when I look at the levels of corruption within an administration, I look for actual things like, you know, corruption. Things like Halliburton and Enron.
As for the gap between rhetoric and reality, I usually think of it as matter of disappointment and disenchantment, not of corruption per se (though it can indicate a kind of ethical corruption, depending on the facts). And I think most other people do too.
Malkin and Hannity sure have a strange standard for what constitutes "corruption." Especially considering they not only stood idly by and cheered while corruption ran rampant in Bush's little war zone but aggressively attacked anyone who brought it up as insufficiently patriotic.

There's no greater crime in the US than stealing from the rich. Had he ripped the middle class off, he'd still be hailed as a well-respected Wall Street exec. Stealing from rich white people. The only crime a rich white guy can actually go to jail for.
..began with a lot of high rhetoric about how he was going to restore dignity to the White House, balance the budget, and bring a new ethical purity to Washington. It didn't last long.
Anyway, Ms. Malkin's point about the gap between the rhetoric and the reality doesn't really make much sense.

He hasn't had time to amass a record worth assessing. Meanwhile, Malkin is ignoring eight years of George W. Bush. Even if you leave out the failure to heed the warnings about 9/11, the Iraq War, Katrina, torture, warrantless wiretapping, war profiteering, Jack Abramoff, Bernie Madoff, exposing Valerie Plame, and all his other faults, the $700 billion bank robbery the Treasury and Goldman Sachs pulled off would easily qualify the Bush Administration as the most criminal, corrupt administration in U.S. history.
Oh, and a guy got shot in the face...

I've been working on mine since 1980.
Instead of taking a year or two to research and write a book, like most intelligent professional writers, I should drink a shit load of coffee while trawling the internet for the most outrageous blather I can find, cut-and-paste, stick in random footnotes that no one is every going to read nevermind verify, take at least a whole two weeks to bang out such non-stop stream of consciouness trash, and sell it to whatever rumourmongering press doesn't give a hoot about quality, or veracity, just MONEY made off the idiots who buy this stuff like cocaine to feed their hate habit.
Oh well. I may not be on tee-vee like Ms. Malkin, but at least I can look myself in the eye in the mirror every morning without throwing up.

Because they have nothing of substance to offer in the political debate, the Republican strategy is to bet the farm on the hopes that by screaming "corruption" and "he's a socialist" and "he wasn't even born in America," they can smear Obama and Democrats enough that they themselves will stay viable.
Let's face it--by all practical measures, the Republican party is dead, but the media are unwilling to write the official eulogy. The media will continue to provide a larger platform for Republicans than is warranted by the party's clout.
Democrats/liberals should do two things. First, continue to push the political agenda that will help continue to shift the focus in America away from the tax-cutting, saber-rattling of the Bush years and toward health care, alternative energies, and so on. Second, every chance they get, they (and we) should politely and forcefully remind the electorate how morally corrupt and intellectually bankrupt Republicans are. Every Republican lie doesn't have to be addressed, but I think it would serve us well to keep mentioning that, while Democrats are trying to address America's problems, Republicans continue to be the party of No.

On a side note, I was flipping channels tonight when I saw Hannity interviewing Mark Furhman about the Professor Gates situation. Furhman made comments that there was no racial profiling.
Why doesn't Hannity at least get someone credible to talk about race relations? Furhman certainly isn't credible to discuss issues about race.

The civil rights act wasn't signed until a little later that year. Oh these people have an entire industry devoted to churning out propaganda-filled books, all aimed at trying to muddy the waters of truth. In the tiny town of Sierra Vista, the only major book store is Hasings. They have every wingnut book that has been published, I go in there and I see multiple copies of Becks 'Common Sense' (written by an idiot who lacks any). They literally have every one of Ann Coulters joint-makers. They have most of the 'Factually Incorrect Guides' known as the P.I.G books, which are aimed at making up as much historical facts as possible to make America into the goodest country on Erff.
They have multiple copies of the pantloads 'Liberal Fascism" fairy tale, and what it all adds up too is a blitzkrieg against reality (I call it the republican't war on reality). Even after loosing two elections in a row, they continue on with their programs of misinformation, because they think they can force reality to conform to their will. Me, I'm surprised that in all this time. Fat boy has only released two books and the last one was over ten years ago. The sheer number of republican't tree corpse's out there and the speed in which they churn them out blaming Liberals for all the worlds evils shows that they hope to flood the country with their failed talking points over and over again until more people start to believe their lies again, you add that fact to the obstructionism happening in Congress now and their plot is pretty obvious. Publish/broadcast as much propaganda as they can in these penny dreadfuls and on fox and talk radio, all of it claiming how the Liberals are going to ruin the country. Use every obstructionist device available to derail the Democrats agenda. I've been reading the book "Us vs Them" by J. Peter Scoblic. It looks at the rise of the modern conservitard movement and it made plain to me what the zero sum game was; the fact that these early conservatives truly believed that it was possible to win a nuclear war was telling. They believe that everything, EVERYTHING has to have a winner and a loser, the idea that reality is not black and white, good vs evil winners and losers, us vs them, is a concept they do not believe in. Their whole world view is summed up in the winners and losers idea and it colors how they see the world around them.
Malkin is still a blathering, ignorant, ugly, Reslug whore, no matter what she does or says.

Yes, Michelle, words - even assuming they are spoken in the same universe that the rest of us live in, mean more than actual deeds. And words that are describing intended acts that could be described as being "just" are beyond the pale. Heavens knows, it's audaciously corrupt to be concerned with justice, if there's even the most remote possibility that the totalitarian oligarchs might be touched by it. What are scary thought that would be.
My question is why FOX still has an FCC broadcast license? They are not exercising free speech. they are engaging in television fraud (a RICO crime), hate speech and incitement to various crimes including insurrection. How do such things serve the public's interest?

Here is just one example of Malkin’s routine reliance on half-truths and outright lies in her book, “Culture of Corruption”.
In her book, Malkin states categorically that Michelle Obama “was literally born into the Chicago political corruptocracy,” suggesting that because her father was a volunteer precinct captain and held a city job, she had to be a party to cronyism and embraced the practice to get ahead. In fact, the biography of Michelle Obama that Malkin herself cites in making this dubious case argued the exact opposite– that the first lady’s experience in the “powerful political machine” of Richard J. Daley made her and her family “extremely cynical about politics and politicians” until they met Barack Obama. Obama’s political career was pushed in part by a coalition of people who had grown up in opposition to Daley and whose goal was breaking the Machine. Of course, you’ll never read that in a book written by Michelle Malkin.
The fact is that Michelle Obama’s father, Frank Robinson, worked as a “Precinct Captain” because he no other choice. The majority of people serving as precinct captains did so because their paying jobs depended on it. Robinson, whom Malkin fails to mention suffered with MS, had a family to raise and he did what the political machine demanded. Malkin’s hatchet job conveniently ignores the fact that doing “volunteer” work in Chicago was, in fact, the only way you could get and keep a city job. Anybody who knows anything about the Daley era in Chicago knows this.
Michelle Malkin’s personal attacks on Michelle Obama are just one example of the kind of innuendo and guilt-by-association tactics that we haven’t seen since the McCarthy era. Every other aspect of this book deals with the subject matter in the same dishonest manner. The only reason any person would spend their time reading this book would be to have their own bigoted, misinformed point of view confirmed.
The more I learn about this woman, who wasn’t even on my radar until the health care reform debate exploded, the more she disgusts me.
