Media reform and the ouster of Lou Dobbs: Yes we can
Gosh. Looks like we won't have Lou Dobbs to kick around anymore. Except, of course, for when he lands that fat Fox Business Channel gig.
In the meantime, some congratulations are in order -- and, as Greg Sargent suggests, the left blogosphere in general deserves a great deal of credit in finally forcing one of the nation's leading hatemongers -- and disinformation specialists -- out the door.
That's especially the case with Media Matters, which really led the way. (MM has great retrospective of their own.) And the campaigns that organized to compel his ouster at CNN -- including Basta Dobbs, Drop Dobbs, and America's Voice -- should take a bow as well.
While we wait for the right-wing violins to cue their usual "Mean Liberals Went On a Witch Hunt" number, we should also take special note of what this means: It means that liberal activism to force our media to act responsibly works.
I know that a lot of time it feels like we're just shouting into the wind. It's that feeling of utter helplessness that ordinary citizens always get when they pit themselves against the power of big money and big corporations. Sure, we can document all the media misbehavior we like, but it's becoming so voluminous and steady now that it's hard to keep up, and it's even harder to spark outrage over it.
But eventually, if we keep pounding and pounding and working, it works.
The biggest job of all lies ahead, of course: Confronting Fox News, whose daily deluge of disinformation and fearmongering is so immense now that it makes Dobbs' contributions shrink to insignificance.
But it's true: Yes, we can do this. And we must.

I won't be seein' ya later, either

Yes we can.
Getting Dobbs off the tube has been a long time coming.
I think we will win on every front if we stick to it.

I've already forgotten this has been.
Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.
Golly, now watch this scumbag pile of racist shit end up spewing insane Republicanism on FOX "News" tomorrow.
All of the well informed know exactly how this happened. No mention of it in the Times piece - of course not.

Liberal blogs won't get any credit at the moment. Lou has to be able to save face somehow.
But rest assured that when he's nestled into his new home, wherever the parasite takes up residence, liberal blogs will get the blame. You know, hateful, spiteful, free speech-hating worms that they are.
Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?
So fuck Lou Dobbs in his pinche gringo pendejo.
What has become of us? This rift building since the presidency of William Jefferson Clinton. A fractured society. I'm loathe to admit it but, I FUCKING HATE the United States of America. If I had the resources I'd be so fucking gone... Patagonia, Tahiti, Switzerland.
Why not civil discourse? Why not solution seeking compromise? Why not unity? Why the placement of money before people? Why logic trumped by ignorance? Why race put before spirit of the man?
We are a low life degenerate pack of knuckle dragging buffoons too dumb to fucking live and too stubborn to fucking die.
Fuck the USA!

... who are wailing and gnashing their teeth over healthcare reform that does not affect them and theirs, Dobbs railed against illegal immigration from his lofty position and comfy salary.
He's been there for over three fucking decades, hobnobbing with the rich and powerful, but he somehow knows every last detail of the evil immigrant plot to overthrow Whitey Land?
This is a fight we should not be having - in the sense that the American public, by and large, has been a horrible steward of its own interests. Why was Lou Dobbs a prominent mouthpiece for racist nonsense and conspiracy theories? Because the viewing public PUT HIM THERE.
It's gonna be a long slog to clean up the airwaves, folks. It's too easy and commercially profitable to be stupid.

Regardiong Dobbs slot on CNN,
David Gregory (A Mike Wallace’s son want-to-be)John King (The David Gregory want-to-be) is replacing Louuuuuuu Dobbs. Great. It was such a good opportunity for NBC to get rid of the real David Gregory. Rachel Maddow could have taken his place on MTP and David Shuster or Dylan Ratigan (Could be a little early for Dylan. He has not been truly tested yet.) could have taken Maddow’s place at the Maddow hour. Of course those two could never actual replace Maddow but at least they would have a no nonsense person in the time slot. Or maybe one of the two could take Gregory’s (A Mike Wallace’s son want-to-be) place but they are not as good of a fit as Maddow. But then losing Rachel Maddow five days a week may be too much to ask.Back to John King; CNN is going to have to replace the David Gregory want-to-be on Sunday. Doing Louuuuuuuu’s job and his own three or four hour on air Sunday job is too much to ask from anybody. Seriously. Maybe they will replace King on Sunday with Mike Wallace’s son want-to-be (The real David Gregory). Either way they are deciding on who will be the replacement for either King or Dobbs. Obviously they are trying to get a right wing son of a bitch to be in both slots. I wonder if David Gregory’s (Mike Wallace’s son want-to-be) contract is about up. He was placed in his position about a year ago, right correct?
now the right will get their three scoops of HATE when dobbs joins up with fox. three klowns: o'really,
hammity and now dobbs.
The blog guys can take SOME, maybe a LITTLE credit for this, but you have one thing to learn. You DID NOT do this on your own. You must give CNN a LOT of credit for bravely LISTENING to the complaints of bloggers and especially VIEWERS and acting upon them. Try this with FOX and watch how far you get. CNN has shown that it is serious about trying to be a bit more MOR and genuinely unbiased by this action against Dobbs and his type of opinionated so-called "reporting.", and by their recent attacks on Fox's veracity during the Rick Sanchez segments. Murrow and Paley would be proud.
The SPLC can claim some credit too. Not to mention the SPLC is one of the very few places I'll send $$$. I hate hate!

If we stick to it, and never let up. The liars have been screaming "liberal media" since I was but a little tater tot, and they continue to do it constantly. Strangely, I think we have to learn never to declare victory, and just keep screaming.
It's already working. Anyone think Shear Insanity would have (fake) apologized to the likes of Jon Stewart had the administration not mentioned that FUX wasn't real news? The meme is out there, and FUX has to combat it. Pretend apologies when caught with their pants down is a good sign.

It should, but it won't...

Astute observation; that needed to be said.
If not for C&L et al, I would never have heard of Luis Dobbs - and would never have signed those petitions and sent letters to CNN
because I choose to NOT watch that shit.
But I DO care about the mean propaganda that Dobbs dishes out.
Thanks, miss_kitty.

I stared at my television set during the hour of Dobbs program with the channel selector tuned to where CNN is located on one of my local cable providers. Using a technique used on goats which I downloaded from a movie trailer on the internet I was able to persuafe him greener pastures lay over the horizon and that he should move on.
I do not subscribe to cable. I do not watch television. But thanks to the internet and blogosphere I knew what to do.
Some may say all the liberal blogs and campaigns toppled Dobbs. Pshaw. Nobody has more proof than I which had more effect. More people believe in God with less evidence than has been presented either way.
BTW, neither goats nor Mickey Kaus was hurt in my training.
“Why would anyone with a functioning brain believe this guy?”

..Dobbs quit (just like sarah); he wasn't fired.
By the way, act quickly before the Site Monitor deletes this..
I have this bridge in Brooklyn for sale if anyone is interested.
I'm sure we all believe he was asked to go and allowed the dignity of quitting since he's been with CNN since forever. But for those who think otherwise, I do have that bridge!

It's nice that Lou Dobbs is gone from CNN, but who will they replace him with?
Another right wing nut?
A talking head who likes to recite right-wing talking points as "balance"?
or...
an actual journalist who will bring America facts and info that they can use?
But you'll never hear it here thanks to the Rahm haters.

Lou Dobbs, August 14:
"It's just killing the left wing in this country that they can't force CNN to fire me."
Lou Dobbs, today:
" "
Cue the Kabuki....
I actually have a job in manufacturing. I used to watch Lou until about 10-12 yrs. ago. Mostly because he was really the only guy who actually gave any attention to offshoring. Then about 10 years ago it really became apparent that he became this anti-immigrant hater.
The interesting thing is, and in my opinion the one way to look at it that will garner any real change.
Think of it like this; if illeagal aliens are here because they'er the only ones who'll do the jobs Americans won't do, what would happen if we paid a living wage for every job regardless how menial.
If Lou had a clue he could have sold his snake oil with a little more subtltey and combined his hatred of all things Mexican with his populist version of, trade surpluses are good for the country, not the other way round. So if America was a country where we all could make a living, not most of us working 2 jobs to make ends meet, companies wouldn't only look at profits as how many people can we lay off and still acomplish our goals for this Quarter.
See, if we could all make a living instead of a killing the illegals problem goes away. All the shitty jobs would be done by Yanks so no need for border crossers. Pogo said "ain't it true, the last people in, always wants to be the last one in".
Only problem after this is, what do you do about the caste system; After all, who wants their kid to work in a factory.
all right wing haters look alike? Dobbs looks like a hybrid between Archie Bunker and Party Leader Limbaugh.
A pinata full of birth certificates would have made a great goodbye gift for Dobbs.
Before we start patting each other on the back about "forcing CNN to fire Dobbs " , do we KNOW that Dobbs was fired or did he just resign to go back where he belongs , Fox news ? Seems to me that Dobbs flipped his lid and went into high gear auditioning for Rupert Murdoch and Fox Propaganda once Obama was sworn in , was more than the racist could handle .
Insanity , it is what it is , there is no understanding it .
your name.

Of all the media hand jobs I believe Dobbs to be the most dangerous in that he does a better job (than most of these creeps)in seeming erudite and mannerly, which IMO helps cloak one's "less wholesome" agenda and motives. In Dobbs case were talking very dark territory indeed,as in Right Wing Nationalism of the brown Shirt variety.

Nuts.
He sees a chance to make big big money elsewhere is all.
If the left wants to do something - how about getting Obama to end rendition and detention without trial?
How about getting Obama to end the goddam wars in Iraq and Afghanistan?
How about getting the Obama administration to cancel the "patriot" act?
Having a celebration over Dobbs leaving CNN?

drops a hint that he might seek an early exit from his contract. What really pissed him off was when CNN management broke into a grin and offered to escort him down to personnel and walk him through the whole process. I bet the locksmith was hovering about waiting to change the lock on his dressing room.

(who the hell else will have him?) and we'll have him, beck, wallace, hannity, o'reilly, cavuto, and the rest of the crazies under one roof, what say we seal the exits, pump some really bad acid into the drinking water, turn on our t.v.'s and watch the madcap mayhem as they wrestle with their demons? Let's pick a day when mann coulter is scheduled to appear -- I'd love to watch the spider lady tear her eyeballs out. Is there any of that brown acid from Woodstock still around?

DO let the door hit your head on the way out, Dobblehead!
This is the mistake progressives always make. We believe in reason, in truth, in logic, in civil discourse.
The reichwing not only doesn't believe in reality, they are actively opposed to it.
You CAN'T reason with someone who vote for a senile b-movie actor and his CIA black-ops puppet master, or an illiterate tantrum-throwing drunk and his snarling traitor puppet-master, or a lying ancient flip-flopping hypocrite and his planned beauty-contest-loser idiot replacement.
YOU CAN NOT REASON WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT SANE.
You don't let a child play with a flamethrower. You don't let Aunt Minnie fly a 747. You DON'T LET RUPERT MURDOCH OWN A PUBLIC NETWORK.
Faux needs to have its license pulled. They can go to pay-per-view, or satellite, like Howard Stern. But they MUST be removed from free access to idiots, like taking the car keys away from a drunk teenager.
Supreme Arbitor of the Inner Planets
It is about time "Liberal", actually more like level-headed people, began to fight back against all the crazies.
Dobbs gone. Need to get Beck out of there next. Keep the pressure on not only Beck advertisers, but Fox advertisers.
NY23 was a clear signal that the vast majority of people in this country do not support these broadcasters and these teabaggers.
Limbaugh also not getting to invest in an NFL team was another signal.
Hannity apologizing to Stewart for protest footage was another "win". The WH comments on FOX have now put the spotlight much more on FOX. They are now in a tough situation, as everyone in America is watching them and ever time they screw-up it will just be reconfirmation that the WH is right about FOX.
Sure we can let these people say what the want, but they have to know there will be a price to their actions and that the majority of people in this country do not agree with them and their behavior.
