Sean Hannity's scalp-hunting desperation descends into fabricating NAMBLA connections to Jennings
By David Neiwert Tuesday Oct 06, 2009 10:00am
Sean Hannity still wants Kevin Jennings' scalp so he can keep up with Glenn Beck.
But since his smear has been debunked about as thoroughly as a right-wing smear job ever can be, he's getting a bit, ah, desperate.
Last night he not only was still clinging desperately to the false notion that Jennings should have reported a teenager's sexual affair to authorities, but he came up with a new line of attack -- borrowed directly from the fine fools at Powerline -- claiming that Jennings, in "a 1977 speech," had praised "one of the founders of NAMBLA," a gay-rights pioneer named Harry Hay. Hannity calls him a "big supporter of NAMBLA."
As usual, the fine researchers at Media Matters have the whole story:
Power Line's Hinderaker cited Jennings' speech, NAMBLA. In an October 1 post, Power Line's John Hinderaker noted Jennings' 1997 speech and wrote: "Obama nominee Kevin Jennings actually said that the founder of NAMBLA -- the North American Man-Boy Love Association -- Harry Hay, is '[o]ne of the people that's always inspired me,' " ... Hinderaker's claim that Hay founded NAMBLA is false. As the Associated Press noted in 2002, Hay "in 1950 founded the secret network of support groups for gays known as the Mattachine Society." Hay wrote in the Gay Community News (retrieved from Nexis) in 1994, "I am not a member of NAMBLA, nor would it ever have been my inclination to be one."
Moreover, as the piece explains, Jennings' speech was part of a eulogy to Hay upon the occasion of his death, and specifically praised him for his work in the 1950s in organizing gay activists -- not for any of his later views.
Hannity must really be looking over his shoulder these days to be getting this desperate. Hey Sean, how are those ratings looking these days?

Every RWNJ has some kind of facination with NAMBLA?
You know they are out of material when they trot out the NAMBLA BS.
about the RWNJ and NAMBLA network. :">...!<
And is your real name Pants or are you trying to hide your connection to the Trouser Makers?
Hannity has always been a liar. People that watch him don't care, they're so stupid they don't mind being lied to by someone that is supposed to be reporting facts. You can take any 10 minutes of one of his radio shows and hear at least ten lies.
This seems to be the perfect case for slander. It may be the only thing that finally puts an end to this hate mongering (I know I am being naive but one can hope)
troubling Obama fellow.
Proof that nothing a winger says is so false, repellent, and disgusting as to get them barred from being given a platform and megaphone in our public discourse.
you defined Faux News!

..that he has NAMBLA ever gentle on his mind.
Making Hay now issee?
is very happy right now.
He will make full use of this.
The Right does seem to be a tad obsessive about all things gay, aren't they?
Liberals and Commies and Gays, oh my!

Isn't there a point here where Jennings can sue for defamation of character? If I were him, I would have my lawyer looking into it.
... Mr. Jennings does not look anything like Marlon Brandon.
in the media about some celebrity taking legal action against the tabloids and they often prevail when the lie is exposed. I don't understand why no one goes after the inflamatory lies from FOX News and the right wing radio blowhards. They are lying non-stop with some fairly character assinating stuff. Wouldn't a parade of multi-million dollar lawsuits put a cork in some of this garbage? Money seems to be all they understand. Their audience is so dumb, a multi-million suit is something they could understand as well.
Explain to me why Jennings can't sue him?
1. Jennings likely qualifies as a public figure, and 'fair comment' may be made regarding his activities, past speeches, etc.
HOWEVER, if he were to file a slander/defamation of character suit against Hannity, he'd likely win, because the burden of proof would be Sean having to prove his allegations. The only defense against slander is that your words are provably true.
if they can show that the comments were known to be false and made with malice.
I don't understand the apparent confusion over 'age of consent'. By definition, if legally consenting parties engage in sexual contact, there is no unlawful sexual contact or abuse.
..but if they are lying, go for the throat in Civil Court. There's no guarantee you'd win. First you'd have to find a lawyer who wanted to go after sean on an issue like this. I'll bet the lawyers aren't interested in testing 1st Amendment rights' issues. For their reputation, I've never found Lawyers anxious to start a civil trial when it ain't necessarily a slam-dunk. For example: kid runs into street, runs into stopped car in street, breaks mirror, sues driver, Driver has no fault in causing the kid to run into the street, driver is sued and kid gets nice start-up fund for college. What recourse does driver have without disposable income? NONE-insurance company settles with kid to avoid lengthy trial and fees and jacks up insurance of driver for being in wrong place at wrong time. Guess which individual I was.
Lawsuits aren't always the answer nor might they be the solution.
A civil suit looks like a slam dunk, and with his new contract... Mr. Hannity can provide a nice retirement fund for Mr. Jennings.

There was a court case and I believe it was here in Fla. Someone sued fox news because of something they said. If I recall correctly the court said that fox does not have to be responsible for the items that it provides as news. Please don't quote me on this and maybe David Neiwert knows more of the solid details about this than I do.
There is this . . .

"I'm not buying this." Sean?
Marlon Brando Look Alikes? What's wrong with that? Why does Hammity hate Marlon Brando look alikes?
... Sean understands he will one day be fat, old, ugly, vaguely mumbling about past glories ...
... and no one will give a shit.
... Sean understands he will one day be fat, old, ugly, vaguely mumbling about past glories ...
Shadowgm, he's already fat, old, ugly and vaguely mumbles about past glories. Right now, most folks don't give a shit about him either.
By the way, why is he fixating on NAMBLA? I think there is something else about Sean Hannity that we can add to the above statement...
To paraphrase "A Great American" "I said it before and I'll say it again, " Hannity "must resign".
Goes double for Rush Limpballs.
I would be hard pressed not to give him a beat down, and would happily accept the assault charge
Myself, I'd spit on his shoes. Not enough people do that kind of thing anymore.
slippery when you throw them.
Once in a while a fresh look is helpful...
What is Hannity? What does he know about the things he talks about? Why is he there? To inform? To misinform? To protect Murdoch?
appointed Jennings knowing the hounds would discredit him and to extension, the gay rights movement, which he had thrown under the bus immediately after winning the election. Like the rest of us.
killer, right?
I am tired of this daily shoveling of bullsh!t by Faux News.
FCC is mostly for over the air broadcasting. If FOX Theatre is cable the FCC may not cover it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Hannity himself gay? He acts and talks like a very mad,self-hating,in-the-closet gayman!
Has anyone ever seen a photo of Hannity with his wife,or of him before being married with a woman, any woman? Ann Coulter doesn't count!
his career as a Marriage Counsellor:

Jon Stewart is going to LOVE this.
Most gay men I know, including myself, believe that NAMBLA, if it exists at all, was created by the FBI under Fuhrer Hoover or some other right wing organization for alleged purposes of identifying pedophiles but really to use to discredit the gay community. As an out 42 year old gay professional I can honestly say I have never ever met anyone who suggested that they were not criminals.
Interesting. Have you ever met or known an actual member of NAMBLA? Has anyone?
It was the subject of a South Park episode once. That's the extent of my knowledge about it.
.
I have known Kevin for approaching 30 years. I also founded a chapter of his non-profit, GLSEN. He absolutely finds the members of NAMBLA to be criminal. His only interest is keeping schools a safe environment where *everyone* can learn, without fear or harrassment.
And he was a kick-ass teacher (I didn't work with him, but if you are a teacher at an independent school, word gets around).
What's this "Hannity's America" crap in the background?
How is Sean Hannity such an expert on NAMBLA?
Oh that's right there used to be before it was all deregulated so the stations could all be bought up by a few big companies to use as propaganda outlets! I don't know why anyone bothers with any of the MSM any longer? You know they cannot be trusted so whats the use?
To bad it was so easy to just turn on the tube and there it was. It really started big changes in the late 1990s but got into full swing in 2003! I haven't watched since. I do watch a segment once in a while, but the lies and the bullshit overcomes my curiosity after about a minute and a half and I have to turn it off or explode.
And yes what you have been hearing is true, republicanism is a mental illness!
is that pedophilia has absolutely nothing to do w/ teh gay. In fact many pedophiles are married men, Sean and Glenn. Like you two...you ARE married aren't you, Sean? Oh well, we've seen gay people marrying beards, so THAT doesn't preclude gayness either, you hateful bastards.
I think this represents the perfect opportunity to go after Fox for allowing its anchors to lie through their teeth.
This is a very, very damaging charge. There's not much worse you can say about somebody, other than calling him or her a murderer.
So, the harm is there. You would not have to prove damages. Linking someone with a pedophile is enough in and of itself.
It's most certainly not true. And it is most certain that it was said with knowledge that it was not true. I think the entire context of Hannity's assault on Jennings would prove malice quite convincingly.
I think it is time someone stood up to these bullies. I think Mr. Jennings has a clear cause of action and a very good case. In fact, an excellent case.
And I'm sure there is a member of the Lawyer's Guild who would love to take it on.
Nobody has the first amendment right to slander other people like this.
Not even Fox refers to Hannity or Beck or O'Reilly as anchors. They have a couple of so-called "anchors",
but I do admit that often it's hard to tell them apart.
Everybody knows that anything Racist Reslugs say are always made up lies. Only uneducated fools watch Faux Noise.
and his own secret gayness so he multiplies and directs his hatred to others.
His America is ugly.
Sandwiched between rabid-dog Beck and "the Fox Institution" O'Reilly, poor Sean must be feeling the heat to his ratings? Of course, nothing in the past has prevented him from acting irrationally.
Hey folks, isn't it about time Hannity comes clean about his "Freedom Concerts?" Hannity has been using our wounded veterans and their children to raise money for them!
Starting in 2003, Hannity along with Ollie North at "Freedom Alliance" started holding concerts to raise money for the wounded vets and their families. This is wonderful but there's one small problem no-one knows about how much money has been raised! Hannity "HAS NEVER" reported how much his concertts bring in, and how much he donates to "Freedom Alliance!"
He claims to have donated $10,000,000 from 5 concerts he held in 2007 to Freedom Alliance, but Freedom Alliance's IRS Tax Form 990 for 2007 reports no such donation. Ollie North on the other hand says that Sean has raised $2,500,000 since '03 for the wounded and their families! They can't even get their lies straight!
Here's some numbers straight from Freedom Alliance's IRS Form 990 for the years 2003-2007, (2008's 990 hasn't been published on the net yet.)Remember Freedom Alliance and Freedom Concert are both the same.
From 2003-2007 Freedom Alliance brought in cash donations of $43,737,397.00 and spent on the Wounded Vets and their families $1,781,782, or roughly .0407381 cents on the dollar!Where's the $10,000,000 donation from '07? $1.7 million ain't $10 million the last time I checked!
Isn't it about time Hannity opens the books on his so-called Freedom Concerts for all to see?
Go an google : "Hannity scamming wounded verterans" and then read up on his scam!
Go an google : "Hannity scamming wounded verterans" and then read up on his scam!
-----
And so I did. Not many hits with that wording, but Daily Kos has a great article about the scam. It seems good 'ol Ollie North is up to his old tricks diverting funds and funding freaks (all the while waving the Flag)...
From Daily Kos:
"Freedom Alliance, an educational and charitable foundation, was founded in 1990 by LtCol Oliver L. North, who now serves as the organization's honorary chairman."
Hannity isn't smart enough to come up with this on his own.
I love my country. It amazes me to see the spew and vitriol in the false pretense of patriotism. It's like Joseph Raymond McCarthy has risen from the ashes!
Now we know how it happened the first time, and who is responsible this time.
I have to find more about the facts from other sources. On the nambla website itself there are several references to Harry Hay, including, quote "Harry was a vocal and courageous supporter of NAMBLA and intergenerational sexual relationships". Call me deranged or anything you want, but everytime I hear the word pedophilia I feel like beating the daylight out of these disgusting assholes.
Whenever I hear of this pathetic man's desperate attempts at being relevant - I can't help but realize that what he has in his pants is probably the source of his insecurity.

SUIT.
listen on the radio at work. You know that whole "keep your enemies close" thing. I quit over a year ago. I won't click on anything Hannity that may release his vile essence.
You ever notice how these right wingers on TV all have the hairdos of 10 year old boys?
Whatever. Close enough for Fox.
