Jim Quinn yesterday on The War Room with Quinn & Rose:

You know, I was thinking about this. You know, if you were a slave in the old South, what did you get as a slave? You got free room and board, you got free money, and you got rewarded for having children because that was just, you know, tomorrow's slave. So, you got a free house, you got free money, and you got rewarded for having children. Can I ask a question? How's that different from welfare? You get a free house, you get free food, and you get rewarded for having children. Oh, wait a minute, hold on a second. There is a difference: The slave had to work for it.

Yeah, that was the difference. Right.

This raises the question: Are the wingnuts coming so unhinged they are losing any contact with reality?

Are the wingnuts coming so unhinged they are losing any contact with reality?

In a word: Yes.

The difference is at least partial control of one's own destiny. A slave's child could be sold to a plantation down the street or in another state. Your marriage was "jumping the broom."

So now they have stooped to this! Promoting slavery as a good thing?! MLK must be spinning in his grave.

[Deleted. Sitemonitor]

Geez! I knew people would blog about anything but this is ridiculous.

Ugh

"A free house" = a shack
"Free money" = no money
Beatings.
No freedom.
Women being savaged by the owners.

Would this person "Quinn" - whoever he is - like to live in such conditions?
Who is this person?
Who put this guy on TV?

Who the fuck says this kind of stuff? Seriously???

So just how many community service hours does Wall St. still owe for that $750 billion plus?

But the wealthy of Wall Street and their minions, like this guy, have brain-washed the rest of America to believe this and resent the people who need a step up. Keeps the "lower class" totally off their case so that the favored can continue pillaging the country at will. Nice shell game they play.

And this guy is just a mouthpiece for them.

He is a mouth, alright. And i have a few ideas about where he can put it, but i digress...

Politicians use and abuse the victims in this country right and left (no pun intended). It is time for all of us to find a way to slam this shit down so hard it will never be brought up again.

This guy mocking himself with an "insensitivity" recording makes my want to Kumbaya his ass all over the street.

Jim Quinn drummed out of my gender, I want the stupid Gooper out of my race and ethnic group.

Are the wingnuts coming so unhinged they are losing any contact with reality?

Well, you first have to have had contact with reality. And from what I've seen over the years, most wingnuts haven't been in touch with reality for a very, very long time.

this is why you can't play nice with these people. I know real conservatives aren't like this, but until those real conservatives call Orkin on the wingnuts, they can all kiss my fat gay ass.

Real estate agents are notoriously republican, why I can't say. But you know things are tough when you hear a story like this one. At my old office, one of the secretaries listens to Rush in the office all the time. It can be heard all over. An agent went over before the election and finally told her to turn him off. It wasn't professional and it was really nasty to listen to.

When times are this tough, some of these hate peddlers will be losing audience. May Rush be this first, followed by a deluge that takes the rest of them out without every stepping on anyone's rights.

needs humanity counseling.

This is grotesque, and that is putting it as mildly as I am able.

Typical reichwing idiocy defining things in paramilitary terms--"war" room--as if they were persecuted victims.

Looks like Quinn's version of war is all hell. What a drooling, imbecilic moron.

Odds are this guy has never cracked a history book in his entire life.

He can't read and write.

and like rush, now feel free to speak their minds

let them keep talking

no return to the fairness doctrine

the more they talk, the more people realize how ugly they really are

I agree. Let them keep revealing themselves. I truly think one of the things that killed any possibility of the "Bradley Effect" was the unmasked , naked racism that was stoked by and during Palin rallies.

Most people, despite what racism they may entertain on the down low, are generally ashamed of it and think poorly of it and when it is in their face in this way they tend to shy away from it at the very least.

Like Palin and her wingnut approach to politics, people like this guy are sinking their own ship faster than any of our torpedoes ever will.

'unhinged' might be the best you can expect.

As I said before. call a racist a fucking racist.

stop with the goddamned euphemisms.

texas is having a run on gun sales

in NJ they burned a cross on a lawn

what the fuck do you call that - an intellectual exercise?

give me a fucking break.

So...I guess you mean ALL white people, huh.

/racist much?

eh?

I hadn't heard about that. Apparently that town is about an hour and fifteen minutes away from me. I feel kind of sick right now, I know it's one of the red parts of the state, but I didn't think anything like that would happen here.

I really had no idea that there were still people out there this backwards & hateful. If they would just LISTEN to Obama. Humanity, what a disappointment.

This raises the question: Are the wingnuts coming so unhinged they are losing any contact with reality?

This implies that they ever HAD contact with reality.

You know, if you were a slave in the old South, what did you get as a slave?

Uh gee, let me see. . . . You got; beaten, abused, raped, sold, treated as less than human, and even killed.
Yeah, just like welfare!
Racist piece of crap

made it here. On the slave ships, if you got sick you were thrown overboard.

Many died this way.

and these people are allowed to joke about it...

travel experience in his last flight.

In which he had to endure a 10 minute delay, and the cashews were stale. Oooooh, the humanity!

Those black people had it easy on their slave ships of death I tell you!

FREE MONEY! Yeah right.... anything you say.

Imbecile.

Yikes.

I hardly qualify as an expert on right wing hate speak, but the more apparent it became that Obama would become the next president, the more prevalent became this sort of shit. Hopefully, it represents the burnout of that part of the culture that has gained control of much of the media in recent years by playing to the vilest elements of the human spirit. As awful as it is to hear Quinn's moronic attempt to substantiate total racist vomit, it's actually enlightening in that it lays bear just how deep his mindless racism controls everything he does. Obviously, he’s been holding the hairdryer too close to his skull for too many years. The 1980s coif with that nifty part in the middle has survived but whatever was left of the brain died long ago.

Let's reduce it to the simplest thing that these idiots can understand. If you were a slave, and you worked very, very hard (the "American dream" in the mind of these morons) you remained a slave. That's the difference.

uh huh. the whole object of slavery was not paying a slave any MONEY for their dawn to dark hard labor. this guy is dumber than dirt. he runs his stupid mouth and out comes a pile of stupid shit. right wing asshole.

And Nonny wants us to make nice with "people" like this?

The biggest reason to get these idiots off the airways. They can reach too many people with their microphones. If they weren't there, some of the conservatives wouldn't be near as bad. They may think it, but they wouldn't be saying it.

Bring back slavery should be the battle cry of the GOP in 2012. I'm sure Dobson would be for it since slavery is mentioned in the Bible. With that platform, they have a chance to win back NC, FL and VA.

Who is this dick? Never heard of 'em. Hope never to again.

is like that!

Ya know, the Civil Rights Act of '64 and the Voting Rights Act of '65, Truman's integration of the military....And the fact that FDR stripped a lot of those formerly-Republican African-Americans from the GOP?

Why do they always forget to mention the GOP's "Southern Strategy"? Why do they forget that segregationists like Strom Thurmond left the Democratic Party for the Republican Party?

And why do they forget that Republicans like Nixon and Herbert Hoover attempted to paint MLK as a Communist?

Why?

J. Edgar Hoover, the lifetime FBI chief (1924-1972) who abused his power royally.

Herbert Hoover, was the Republican President who presided over the first four years of the Great Depression. He has complicated legacy, he was a great humanitarian on some counts especially his work to feed Europe after the first war even Boshevik Soviet Union which had twenty million starving, but he was a lousy president. He was badly defeated in '32 by FDR. Both Truman and Eisenhower appointed him to commissions which, it is said, he was effective in. He died in 1964.

J Edgar Hoover doesn't get many merit points that I am aware of.

The FBI building is named after him though there are periodic attempts to change that.

John McCain quoted Herbert Hoover in spirit if not literally by saying the fundamentals of the economy are strong. When we are having a financial meltdown.

Any chance he had ended at that point.

You are correct...Damned brain farts!

Nixon appointed L. Patrick Gray to succeed Hoover. Mark Felt the FBI no 2 was the logical choice. P'OD that he was dissed, he became the Washington Post 'Deep Throat' that brought Nixon down.

Here is WaPo.

This is the sort of power held by J Edgar Hoover that Presidents feared. These abuses contributed to the FISA act of 1979 which Bush of our time violated so thoroughly. Felonies by the thousands.

The final revision of FISA, call it dismemberment, this year has swayed so many tempers, mine included.

Cross Burned On Obama Supporters' Lawn

A family who had supported Barack Obama's presidential campaign emerged from their home in the northwestern New Jersey town of Hardwick Thursday morning to find the charred remnants of a 6-foot wooden cross on their front lawn.

Pieces of a homemade bedsheet banner reading "President Obama , Victory '08," which had been stolen from the yard the night before, also were found, leading investigators to believe the banner had been wrapped around the cross before it was set afire. Lt. Gerald Lewis of the New Jersey State Police said his agency is treating the incident as a bias crime.

It's not "bias"... it's hate, pure and simple and, at least in part, it's a direct result of Sarah Palin's brand of politics.

It is so absurd and insulting, it's not even worthy of a response other than to acknowledge that it's how THEY think.

The wing nut repugtards are so screwed up. I got into it with one the other day, and it isn't worth the time spent to converse with them. They are simply put..."f*cked in the head".

This is not a new story line, I have heard it before. It really makes me sad. People in slavery had it good and were not interested in being set free. It was cruel to suddenly strip them of the life they knew. I heard this story when I was a child about 50 years ago. I gave it about 3 minutes of thought and decided that it was crap. We are not that far removed from some of the most awful accepted racism and hatred in America. The history of the United States is full of gangsterism, racism, torture and murder of the "other". It is glossed over and rewritten but that doesn't make it any less true. Things have changed a great deal in my lifetime and things have stayed the same. I have high hopes for future generations but look at your history in the eye and don't relive it.

Isn't he the wingnut go to guy for welfare? Joe the Plumber was a welfare queen himself.

Jim Quinn was a very popular DJ on B-94 FM in Pittsburgh in the late 80s and early 90s. He and his partner, Bananna Don Jefferson, were known for making off color remarks on their very popular morning drive time program. One morning, they went a bit too far and said something on air that offended the female news reporter that worked with them. She sued the both of them and the station. Quinn and Jefferson were fired. Quinn dropped out of the public eye, but resurfaced on another Pittsburgh FM radio station as a conservative talk show host. I'm not certain he believes everything he says. I question his knowledge of any political or historical issues. It could be he views his role as conservative talk show host as an alter ego he assumes when on the air. At least, let's hope so. I have never heard him or his partner say anything particularly insightful. He is just another Limbaugh "wanna be."

I commend you for even having the patience to try to give this douchebag the benefit of the doubt.

I don't particularly care about his background or ulterior motives, what he uttered is pure and unadulterated racist shit.

Both Quinn and Limbaugh (Jeff Christie) were DJs spinnin' stacks o' wax in Pittsburgh years ago. Here are some good links to some bad pictures of both of them in the seventies.

...to keep the freedom of speech guaranteed by the Constitution, we have to abide these fools.

However abiding does not imply acceptance...

They can say all the bullshit they want, and we should be able to tell them what we think about their racist drivel.

The 1st amendment works both ways.

..I guess that's why I chose the word.

Exactamundo. That is the First Amendment's profound beauty.

These racist idiots complain about the PC squad, as if it is some sort of gestapo who roams the streets arresting dissidents. The truth is, political correctness is born out of societal control. If I yell out four-letter words in a playground, I am either shunned or some angry parent asks me to leave. If you say shit like this on a radio, you either lose listeners or we ask you to leave, by putting pressure on the management or the station's advertisers.

Quinn can gripe about us calling him insensitive all he likes: it's his constitutional right. He just needs to remember as the door smacks his ass on the way out: government didn't lift a finger. Society chased him out.

such a fool is someone to fear. Deconstructed, laughed at, ridiculed, even publicly humiliated. If he represents a significant portion of the Republican base they will never win another presidential election.Demographics says so.

Hmm, is this clip for real?

They are so devoid of anything resembling a soul that they can consider slavery to be not that big of a deal without even breaking a mental sweat.

However, change the subject to affirmative action... now there is some massive injustice worth of some commiserating for these assholes.

The mother, who just turned 30, now has five young children at home. Dad, who long gave into self-pity and hopelessness, fled years ago. She is alone.

Twice before she tried to find work, but the cost of day-care was more than the wages she earned. For a year after her last attempt at making a living, the help she received was cut off. She went hungry for that year.

The mother is trapped in a system. She receives aid for the children. She receives a card every two weeks she uses to buy food. She wants to do better, but is trapped; and there is no way out.

This is not slavery. The comparison to slavery is specious. But she is as trapped in a way of life just as those slaves in the South were trapped. She wants out, just as those slaves wanted out. There is little for her to do, much like there was little to be done 150 years ago when slavery trapped a people.

You can no longer go into the back roads of Mississippi and find slaves beaten down by an oppressive slave-master. You CAN go down almost any back road of Mississippi and find this mother. She’s there still.

She cries at night, because she wants to be set free.

Earlier today, I commented in another section of C&L to the effect that we should not be dismissive of the Wingnut Right. It is already quite crystal clear that the knives are being sharpened. These fuckers will stop at nothing. We underestimate them at our own peril. Accordingly, they should and must be denounced and repudiated at every turn. Election results notwithstanding, now is not the time to get cocky.

Obama should order the military to attack any state that harbors wingnuts. We can go in alphabetical order since Alabama and Alaska come first.

the brain.
This is your brain.
This is your brain on Conservatism and Right Wing Ideology.

Any questions?

in the 60s and 70s

the slave also got raped by her master, had their family sold out away from them, were whipped and beaten, gave birth in fields then went back to work, couldn't stop working when their back felt like giving out, or painful arthritis made it hard to lift a cotton bale, or or or ...

I guess he hasn't had the slave humanized for him ... just like he wouldn't want gays humanized

Right-wingers also believe that the notoriously harsh US prisons are like luxury resorts and that the troops are building schools and only killing "bad guys."

Keep talking, guys.
Unreal. Truly unreal.
In case anyone wondered if using the fear of government "entitlements" is not based in racism, here you go.
Wonder what they think of whites that get welfare?

Didn't you know, there aren't any whites that get welfare? It's just those brown people....

How is this different from being a holocaust denier? O is it like saying: "those jews had it great: they were fed, clothed, given free transport to Poland and eventually allowed a relatively quick death."

I wouldn't want to deny them the right to say stupid, hurtful, racist crap, but they should be called out on it massively when they do say such things.

Oh my!

"You got free room and board, you got free money, and you got rewarded for having children because that was just, you know, tomorrow's slave." Slaves got free money? What? I guess if you consider having your family ripped apart and your children sold into a hellish life where you'd never see them again a reward for having children, then slaves were rewarded for having children. Racist seems like too kind a term for this lowlife.

You're going to be hearing stuff like this - stuff that black people have been hearing for, unfortunately, mere decades now. As a black woman I've heard this many times - that I would have been better off as a slave - better taken care of, better directed by whites.

And whenever things like this are bandied about - I hope Crooks and Liars continues to give voice to it for the idiocy that it is. Because far too many people truly believe that black folks were better off as slaves.

And never forget that underneath this is the implication that black people today "don't work, don't want to work." What they're saying is, "Back then these lazy n******s would have had a job, we'd have seen to that!"

And there will always be those who still think that black people deserve to be ground beneath their heel, to bear the lash and to have their children taken from them to be raised by better whites.

God if only this post were trollish - but try working with people who try to CONVINCE you of shit like this - in the land of liberty no less.

But one thing this election has taught me - and that Obama has taught me - all white folks cannot be tarred with the same brush - I can no longer generalize all white people as I used to frequently. My statements will forever, from this point forward, always be quantified with "some", or "a few" or "those who do" because truly, the people who think like this are a dying breed.

Unfortunately they are still out there - and they have their number. But this election also taught them -no one's really listening to their claptrap any more!

We should be grateful for the boldness with which these freedom-haters have stated their views in public. Whereas in the past, shame would have precluded most of them from speaking their views outside their own circle of believers, nowadays it's as if they have no shame any more.

Thanks are due, I suppose, to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and all their philosophical brethren, for leading us to this juncture. It is a vindication of the principle that the free exchange of ideas, even repulsive ones, benefits us by casting light upon those ideas. It allows everyone to see what reprehensible deviants these folks are.

It makes me glad that I had never heard of this Quinn guy before. And yet, he has a TV audience, so I imagine his fame exceeds his significance. I guess it's better that he feel free to speak these thoughts out loud, on TV, rather than sitting at home, talking to the walls while cleaning his gun, occasionally kicking his dog to emphasize a point.

Oh, and I can't wait for BOOGIE MAN: The Lee Atwater Story. Not that I want to see it... just that I'll be glad not to have to look at that ad for it on C&L anymore. That picture of Bush and Atwater grooving together is beginning to nauseate me. It looks like two turtles engaged in some sort of perverse mating ritual.

As the national economy continues its death swirly, more people who never considered being poor will arrive on poverty's shores. When you have responsibilities beyond yourself, and there is no money coming in, you do what you have to do. As more people get into deep financial difficulties, I am predicting a new-found empathy for poor people.

Of course, some people are just assholes and incapable of empathy. These are my favorite new poor people!

Sounds like a good idea for someone of minimal intelligence, Jim. I'd take myself up on the offer if I were you.

In slavery, blacks were rewarded for unlimited reproduction. Now, the bureaucracy rewards reproductive irresponsibility so bureaucrats can keep their jobs and expand hiring for politicians' relatives at wages out of our pockets. The entertainment industry's "babydaddy" music encourages reproductive irresponsibility, and birth control to have only children you can afford, is seen as black genocide. The aunt toms who earn status by the number of greatgrandchildren are a third factor, and street idiots, who also are numerous in the white world, disparage education and intelligence, claiming in this instance that poor blacks who desire achievement are "acting white" are playing slavery as well, since slaveholders prohibited their hapless property from getting an education.
Slavery is alive and well, and its values are still operating in the black community. Getting slavery out of the culture and people's heads simply is not being discussed.

Quinn has been doing this ranting for years, unfortunately he has a following in the Pittsburgh market which explains John Murtha's statement about racism and rednecks in Western Pa. I've lived here all my life and have seen a reduction in the hate but it still has a grip on the region because of loudmouthed A-holes like Quinn, Beck, Bill O, and Hannity

is that he never reads a newspaper, that he would say anything to pander to his listeners, and that his listeners are also limited people who never read. Welfare rules have been changed for years. There is no such thing as lifetime welfare where people are "rewarded for having children".

One more thing about Quinn, he's very lucky that there is freedom of speech in this country. That's the only reason he's making money off hate like this.

My mother was taught this as a child. She later saw how absurd it was to think this.

It makes me want to break things to hear anyone say what was said in this broadcast, but that would only lead to a pile of crap on the floor.

People who think this way are on my shit list, let there be no doubt about that. What they need is an education. America is sometimes the most misbegotten place on earth.

(Occasionally it is the Beacon on the hill.)

Thanks to Jeff Roteman

I sent an email to one of his show's sponsors concerning this topic...this is what I got back....

Dear C. Cannon

This country was based on capitalism and freedom and I thought that members of your party are tolerant of others. What are you so afraid of?

Quinn and Rose are not racists – they present the truth – Obama and the Democrats are the racists, cowards and manipulators of truth.

Welfare does, in fact, make slaves of those who wallow in it. And the word slaves is not racist – look up the definition – If you look at history, the Israelites were “enslaved” to the Egyptians.

If what you promoting is a preview of what is ahead with the illegitimate administration of Obama who bought the white house for $650 million dollars and countless corruptions, I pray for the United States.

If you are a true American, then behave like one and let freedom ring. We actually should be promoting the cowardly views of your organization – or are you too afraid or small to openly debate them? It seems that all you want to do is curb free speech and truth because you don’t have the courage nor the skills nor the knowledge to debate the truth

Wow...scary stuff.

Holy cow! That is truly disgusting. Who was the sponsor that sent you that response? I sure would like to know so that I can be sure not to ever purchase or use their services.

Here is the sponsor site...

http://www.warroom.com/advertisers.php

And here is the particular sponsor...yep, it
is what it appears to be...and the upcoming
production could not have been more appropriate...

http://www.primestage.com/

And by the way...the Primestage theater group is partially
funded by the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts...so in other
words public money is sponsoring a group that sponsors hate
speech...

It would be interesting to see how this sponsor worms their
way out of this one...

http://www.pacouncilonthearts.org/

The Primestage Theater is also sponsored by the Regional Asset District. RAD is supported by the additional 1% sales tax we pay on purchases made in Allegheny County, PA. I think I will write a letter to the RAD board as well.

I'd send this back to them. Only send it to an CEO or a higher up.
Explain to them that you are sending this letter around the internet. To every single Democratic site.
They are entitled to their opinion. But they're not entitled to their facts.
"If you are a true American, then behave like one and let freedom ring."
This is disturbing, "Let Freedom ring"? Only if it's from their bell?
These are the same people who think Obama is a muslim.

I'd send this to every theater group in the country.
And every radio station too. Hit them where it hurts, in their wallet.

They're also funded by the Heinz Endowments...I'm sure Teresa
Heinz would appreciate knowing where her money was going..

http://www.heinz.org/

I forwarded that letter to them. Suggesting that they might want to rethink sponsoring that show. And or any like it.

I live in SC, where slavery isn't mentioned much and when it comes up, it is sometimes still defended. Our newspaper did a centerfold on Wednesday about how it felt to be descended from "property." It is a reality here that mostly whites play on the golf courses and mostly blacks do the maintenance on those golf courses. It is a reality here that our public transportation, such as it is, is used by blacks who travel for hours to get to low-level jobs, like cleaning up after tourists. I live with the legacy of slave trading and slave owning and slave abusing. Welfare is no picnic, but slavery was and is an atrocity.

Umm, I dont think slaves had unemployment benefits, did they? I suppose they were either sold off or lynched when they ot too old or too uppity. It is my SINCEREST hope that the FCC under the Obama administration will be able to set and enforce new guidelines for what constitutes hate speech on the air and TV waves. This is just incitement to intolerance.

What is it with guys who used to be DJs in Pittsburgh and this right wing dementia? Both Jim Quinn and Rush (as Jeff Christy) were local Western PA DJs for KQV in the late60/early 70's when I lived there.

Wow, this being a slave thing sounds pretty sweet. Where do I sign up?

Before he squeezes out that little nugget about slavery Quinn blathers about how most blacks were Republicans before 1964, and implies that everything has gone downhill since those wonderful pre-1964 days. Yet he doesn't speculate on what might have motivated blacks to move en masse away from the Republican party around that time. I guess we are to believe that all black Americans suddenly decided they'd had enough with being productive and hard-working, and saw a better opportunity being lazy and shiftless.

Or maybe it was Johnson's signing of the Civil Rights Act and the profound reconfiguring of the political landscape that it triggered.

Nah, couldn't be that. Must be the lazy thing.

.."The War Room" says it all about the mentality of this guy and the others on that radio station. These "mental midgets" on the right are still fighting the Civil War. They need to learn that the "civilized" people won and we've moved on to the 21st century.

On another C&L thread, there was a discussion about making nice with right-wing conservatives, encouraging an accepting their point of view as valid, etc. This recording and this Quinn guy are perfect examples of the kind of ignorance and immaturity that makes having a "civil" discussion impossible.

OMG! Where is Simon Legree when you need him?
People like this guy should be censured. You can't fix stupid but hee should not be allowed to pollute the airways with hate and stupidity.

I, too, and shocked by his statements regarding slavery. I don't mind someone expressing a political opinion, but Quinn's statement is both racist and stupid.

GOP has roped and tied all the ignorant people into their party. Their lack of any sort of intelligence is very disturbing. It is like the GOP view of "enhanced interrogation" until they(GOP) are strapped to the waterboard it will never become torture. They say they get 3 meals a day, time to pray, and a bed which they consider luxury items and occasionally shoved against a wall to get an answer about the nukes they are hiding. Dear Lord save us from all these idiots.

Really?

My ancestors were rewarded for having children??? I could understand if someone took them away between the ages of say 12 and 17 and then returned them as healthy young adults. That would be rewarding.
