I have been really enjoying this stuff, I can't lie. Watching conservative wingnut talk-show hosts attack other Republicans has been a joy. It's not only Limbaugh fighting with the GOP and then watching them come a crawling back to beg forgiveness either. They usually focus on the evil liberals and dirty f*&king hippies who hate America (people like you and me), so after I listened to this segment back in March, I knew we had won more than an election.
The infrastructure of talk radio (and FOX News) that was built to try and make America a one-party (conservative) system is now cannibalizing itself and Rush Limbaugh is the Zombie King. Mark Levin was offended by Frum's criticisms of Limbaugh in this article:
On the one side, the president of the United States: soft-spoken and conciliatory, never angry, always invoking the recession and its victims. This president invokes the language of “responsibility,” and in his own life seems to epitomize that ideal: He is physically honed and disciplined, his worst vice an occasional cigarette. He is at the same time an apparently devoted husband and father. Unsurprisingly, women voters trust and admire him.
And for the leader of the Republicans? A man who is aggressive and bombastic, cutting and sarcastic, who dismisses the concerned citizens in network news focus groups as “losers.” With his private plane and his cigars, his history of drug dependency and his personal bulk, not to mention his tangled marital history, Rush is a walking stereotype of self-indulgence – exactly the image that Barack Obama most wants to affix to our philosophy and our party. And we’re cooperating! Those images of crowds of CPACers cheering Rush’s every rancorous word – we’ll be seeing them rebroadcast for a long time.
Levin took offense at what he considered personal attacks against the Zombie King; he wouldn't even link up Frum's columns, but did read some of it to his audience while Frum tried to debate the merits of his case. Frum's central point was that Limbaugh is taking the GOP in the wrong direction -- something that's become obvious to everyone except the Zombies like Levin.
Every slimy thing Karl Rove did before and after Bush is unraveling, no matter how much Villagers like Gloria Borger elevate Rove to godlike status:

David Frum was never much of a thinker. Try as he might, he just can't seem to attract interest, let alone a following, even when stabbing his old boss, President George W. Bush, in the back with a rambling screed. Profiting from a confidential relationship with a president is about as low as it gets. But Frum, the ex-speech-writer turned self-hating blogger, isn't done descending. Now he spends his lonely days and nights at his keyboard trying to settle personal scores and demonizing those who dare to dismiss his ramblings as the work of an emotional wreck...
David Frum responded to Levin again:
It seems like it was only yesterday that Levin was complaining that it was unfair to criticize him on the basis of one short comment unless one was familiar with the large body of his work. Then when some does undertake the task of familiarizing himself with the large body of Levin's work, Levin explodes that this too is unacceptable. From Levin's point of view, apparently, the work others call "research" is some kind of dirty trick. That must explain why he himself so seldom engages in it.

He's a big boy. He certainly dishes it out in huge volumes, the least that bloated, egomaniacal bag of used tampons can do is take it a few times.
Levin is as bad if not worse than Rush. I don't even know who this Levin guy is but he's worse than Bill'O. How many times did he say he was going to give Frum a chance to speak and cuts him off. But it is funny watching them eat themselves. This was great. If it wasn't for the little brains supporting Rush's and Levin's salary they'd be underground radio. Keep it up guys.

Every time I hear the guy on the radio, every time he's mentioned, for me he's Grover Dill, the toady to "A Christmas Story"'s Scut Farkus. He's totally despicable, and when you're trying to decide among Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin and every other major right wing wingnut with a TV or radio show out there as to who's worst, I have a real hard time deciding, but I think I've settled on Levin. His recent comment to a woman caller that "I don't know why your husband doesn't just put a gun to his head" pretty much clinches it for me.

More local right-wing loons on the radio, and fewer big, syndicated sorts like Limbaugh and Levin.
The Conservative movement was built and directed from the top-down. I suspect there are an awful lot of big money interests who now wish Limbaugh had never been allowed to attain such a reach. He's the last bottom-feeder that will be allowed to float above them. The rest are going to kept in their place.
Still, Limbaugh's there now, so... I guess they just have to wait for him to drop.

Frum is a sculptor of talking points. He thinks the wingnuts are getting sloppy with their language (letting the crazy our), and damaging his carefully crafted illusions of what the Republican Party of Joy and Freedom is all about.

If you're teaching broadcast journalism, you should make this a central exhibit. It's wonderful!
Just retired, but I used to direct and teach in the Honors Program at the university I served. I remember a fall semester when one of my Honors students spent the entire term smoking dope and zoning out. He showed up for the final exam, bringing plenty of IQ and con-man cleverness, but being totally ignorant about the material.
Tough spot! So what did he do? He took the words of the essay prompt and tried to spin a totally fantastic improvisation on the topic. That's what Levin did. (Of course he had the advantage of controlling the mike and having the last word.) Stuff for Monty Python or SNL.
The student earned an F. So did Levin.
