The right wingers have been so pumped up over the ratings FOX News has been getting ever since President Obama took office. It's as if America immediately became winguts in their minds, but the numbers don't bear that out.

Let's forget the primaries and speeches during the campaign season, when CNN and MSNBC completely trounced FOX. All we have to do is look at the huge ratings Michael Jackson's memorial garnered. Over 31 million Americans tuned in, so let's take a look at the breakdowns:

Nielsen did not break out averages for the broadcast networks, but CNN was top dog among cablers, averaging 5.3 million viewers -- more than Fox News (2.23 million), MSNBC (1.39m) and HLN (377,000) combined.

Once again, CNN cleaned their clock on cable when a major television event has taken place. (The MJM might not have been your cup of tea) If Americans were so in love with FOX, then why didn't they dominate the MJ ratings? FOX had as much coverage as any other network. Answer: Because average working families aren't as into politics as heavily after a general election and when they do dial in, it's not to FOX.

The wingnuts and teabaggers are tuning in to see the Becks of FOX in greater numbers than normal because it's a freak show/hate-fest, but it's not representative of America. They can shout as loud as they want about ratings, but the numbers don't lie.

This is supposed to make me happy? Americans prefer content-free news over the fear news network? OK, whatever.

...is you?

We are all part of one big network (not news network, human network). Happiness arises from the harmony we can achieve by finding people to love and to bestow our love on them. There is no value to life, or happiness in life, except through meaningful contact with others. So alas, no, I can't by myself make myself happy.

If that is how you feel think... you are correct √

Amended:

Are you not happy, to be alive?

Are you not happy, to be alive?

Personally, I am indifferent.

Happiness is an illsuion. Happiness is the antithesis of sadness. Sadness is an illusion.

When we are happy it is in comparison to being sad. When we are sad it is in comparisonm to being happy.

O wretched creatures, seek the Tao: seek the middle, know thyself.

(Got it?)

No thanks... I prefer facts over any mystical or philosophical doctrines or principles.

Though I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night and have nothing against you and pu-pu platters.

[Bon Appétit' with that] ♥

The Tao. Chinese philsophy. Yin and yang (type) stuff. The middle path.

The 2.23 million Fox watchers is all they have. No more. Nothing. 2.23 to 7 million for the other cable shows. It is really a very small minority.

Fake News has about 2 million viewers. The United States has 300 million people. They are not a real factor but the liberal blogosphere gives their various repugnant pundits and clowns around 30% of their posts. Liberals have to stop promoting their hate and misinformation, we have better things to do with our time than discuss their irrelevant garbage. We should focus on phasing out the repugnants, and creating a powerful new Progressive Party, not preserving repuganats as the "2nd party" or out of sympathy by overly concerning us with something of no value or significance such as this minor player and minor and fading party.

that's obvious.

That says to me that Fox viewers KNOW it is a propaganda network, and thus where they turn for reinforcement of their ideas, but when seeking a more factual report (less obvious bias) they turn to CNN.

CNN is just Fox in drag.

Yup. I've stopped watching it too.

I'm moving soon and I'm not taking my TV. Good times.

And Sanford.

Doesn't C&L promote Fox programming?

FOX

There is a difference between FOX network programming and False News programming.

Fox's animation division is about the only thing they have that's somewhat decent, and that's on rather shaky ground.

What about ownership? Same people? Who writes the checks? Aren't both Murdoch companies?

and is basic Sci-fi programming...

And CNN is the bastion of enlightened journalism?

BAARRRRFFFFFF…

Turn off your TeeVees, there is nothing but Corporate propaganda.

I wonder if Fox conflates it's ratings by giving it away for free like Rush does or if it somehow buys it's own ala Dianectics "the bestseller" or some other hijinks...

1) I bet a lot of Faux's growth since January is guys like me who tune in to hear the latest GOP spin on the latest disaster. I've always been a science fiction fan, and this is political science fiction with an unintentionally unaware self-mocking sense of humor.

2) Before January it wasn't necessary for the wingnuts to go to Fox, they could get all their opinions enforced just from a White House press conference. Now they run to Faux for shelter.

3) Rush Limbaugh has gone so far over the edge (read the daily transcript and analysis of his show on Mediamatters, don't stare directly at the meltdown) even his mass of loyal dittoheads is starting to flake off, so they run (waddle) over to Fox for some reasonable (comparatively) conservatism.

Number 2 Mike. That's the primary motivator. It's the circle the wagons effect. This is a paranoid, victimized, crusader, attack mode always on, bunch. Being in the minority stirs their little right wing hearts.

It'll be interesting to see Beck's ratings for this week because he has been on vacation. So are they watching his show for content or just to see what crazy assed shit he'll do next?

CNN is as dumb and jingoistic as FOX.

To celebrate the fact that more people may have watched Michael Jackson's funeral on CNN than FOX as a triumph for liberalism seems like a stretch.

Wolf Blitzer is as dangerous as Beck.
He'll sell us anything if the price is right.

The main point is Faux is much weaker than you would guess by reading the countless posts on liberal blogs. If we keep blogging about them the wingnuts are going to smell fear and laugh at us. We are so scared of Faux that a large chunck of our time is wasted fighting a measly 2 million stupid, brainwashed viewers, instead of promoting real progress for our country. I vote for progress!

Then I take it you didn't vote for Obama?

Blitzer is well-known as a mouthpiece for AIPAC. Of course he'd sell out for anything.

oh?

and there is a difference?

cnn sucks monkey ass

Does anyone know who that singer is? I have been trying to find out for days.

On topic, Fox's audience, as mentioned, is made up uf tea bagging right wingers who all know where to go to get their "news." Everyone else spreads it around.

I always picture Fox's audience as the same people who think Cops is entertainment

From banks 2 BS, numbers can play tricks on the mind. It still comes down to the truth, derived by facts; that separate the facts... from the fiction. Thanks for the analysis John.

Dood faux viewers listen to any music post Rudy Valee?

Right this second the Leher Newshour is analyzing whether the media over-covered the mj story.

They mentioned a nuclear agreement of some sort between America and Russia.

)O(

The other story pushed aside for mj was the passage of a global warming act.

years ago there was an actual experiment that prove this theory..

As i remembered it..there was a chimpanzee in a room with two people on different sides of the room... one person was dressed in white and another dressed in black

The two people were sitting on opposite ends of the room..like boxers in the ring...with a circle drawn around them.and anytime the chimp would enter the circle the one in white had to play with him and anytime the chimp entered the other circle the one in black had to hold him in an comforting embrace...

Because of the difference, the chimp stayed mostly if not all the time on the side of the person dressed in white (fox news) while the other dressed in black stayed by himself..UNTIL...

The researchers set off the fire alarm which startled the chimp..and out of sheer instinct RAN ACROSS THE ROOM TO THE COMFORTING EMBRACE OF THE BLACK DRESSED MAN (CNN) until the chimp was relaxed enough to go and play again with the man dressed in white....

It was fascinating then..and even more now that HUMANS exhibited these same attributes!!

FOX News and their viewers are nothing but a bunch of racist. They didn't watch some black man's life be celebrated. Now if was an OJ trial, cross burning or even a lynching, FOX viewers would be calling for a national holiday so they could watch the event.

Wow, I do believe that is the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. Its not about celebrating a black man's (or white man's life). Its simply a lot of people do not believe in celebrating a PEDOPHILES life. Plain and simple. Plus I hardly think you could consider Michael Jackson a black man. He did his best to sever himself from the black community; He changed his skin color, his facial features, he had surrogate parents provide him with white children... Idk if you can call him black anymore. Fox's demographic is older and probably didn't listen to Michael Jackson so its no surprise they didn't watch.

CNN

is 50% sewage, 50% straight information (give or take).

Fox is about 85% sewage, 15% straight information.

But I really have no use for either network--I prefer sites like this one for accurate news, along with Olbermann and Maddow on MSNBC.

I'd be willing to bet that it has nothing to do with which network people turn to when there's something significant going on. It's probably because the farther right you are the more likely you are to think of Michael Jackson as a pedophilic, creepy black guy. And, statistically, Fox almost certainly has a whole hell of a lot more "Mother****ing Iced Tea!"-believing racists than CNN (or, I'd guess, any other news network for that matter).

Thus, the average people who watch Fox News want nothing to do with Michael Jackson, and the Fox News coverage of the events was correspondingly poor.

So the people who cared turned on CNN, which had measurably better coverage. Nothing to do with news, it's WHO THE NEWS IS ABOUT. If Ted Nugent had been murdered you can bet Fox would have the better ratings that week.

Also, I only know which network had better MJ coverage because my wife was watching an inordinate amount of it due to being a fan, and I got exposed incidentally. Personally, the guy was interesting, a very talented entertainer, and did a lot of good humanitarian work (reason right there Fox viewers wouldn't like him), and I'm curious enough to read about what happened in a few weeks once the dust has settled and the facts are out, but I don't really care that much.

Americans sure know how to suck celebrity dick...

Is this C&L's idea of a "big event"? Try telling us the CNN v. FAUX viewership on something that matters, like the debate over health care.

This "TV event" was a waste of time and effort. At least when Freddie Mercury died, the funeral was a quiet private affair, not turned into a public spectacle despite the number of fans who would like to have attended it; the memorial was turned into an AIDS fundraiser which served a purpose (as well as being a great moment of musical performance). Jackson's "memorial" was an embarassment by comparison.

That's because CNN reports and you decide; Fox decides, then reports, and then you get GOP and neocon talking point spinarama.

This article sadly has no basis in reality. Michael Jackson's memorial simply does not cater to FOX's demographic. Right wingers (who usually watch fox), tend to be predominately white and old. They are simply not interested in a child molesters public funeral. On the other hand the black community hugely favors the left, as do a lot of younger folk who would tend to prefer CNN and *gasp* like Michael Jackson. I don't know about you, but when was the last time you saw someone over the age of 60 jamming out to Michael Jackson. This article is pure hogwash and if someone was truly trying to make the statement that CNN is more popular for major events than FOX do some better research. Perhaps take a look at ratings that are demographic neutral, such as the riots in Iran or perhaps multiple large events. Extrapolating from one event and calling it journalism is pathetic
