The word on the street is that the reason Obama won't release The White House "visitors log" is because too many coal exec's were marching in and out of there for "Happy Hour" in the past few months.

If you check out why Dennis Kucinich just voted against the "Climate Bill" one of the reasons is that coal was given a fast track and not dumped:

in this entire bill that actually is going to help those who need the help the most.

Wow, how did Kucinich ever get elected, anyway? He's far too brilliant and honest and trustworthy!

Hmmm..let's see...working less than 30 hours a week in an industry that normally works 60 at this time of year...check...laying off staff IN JUNE...check....oh but the great news? My bank's loans manager phoned me last week, offering me a home equity credit line at 1% over prime rate interest, to help through these troubled times. Um, isn't that what supposedly caused these troubled times in the first place? Bad thing is, I might have to sign on the dotted line, to stay alive. Can't cut anymore expenses now.

labeling the current economic collapse a 'Recession'. It's not.
It should be called what it is - Engineered Theft through Corporate/ Financial/Bankster Fraud.

You posting from the library, or is home internet access free up there?

I use my computer for job hunting, television, movies, songs, and just about everything. So I should get rid of it too? Hell, you are right. I should have nothing to communicate with anyone.

The internet is de rigeur for a job search now.

One emails resume's and fill out applications on it.

Often job-hunting sites have jobs posted that can't be found in the newspapers.

And wearing out your shoe leather is all you're going to do, when most potential employers simply only refer you to their website.

Many many employers in my neck of the woods, ask you to email resumes, job applications, etc now. I think Andy's point was that because I still have the internet, I don't have any financial problems. Only rich liberals can afford internet?

That sounds like those people in grocery lines who shoot dirty looks at those using food stamps, especially when they might be buying something like a cake, for perhaps some unknown special occasion.

The problem with every Republican is they are sexually frustrated due to the fact that they trying to be the pillar of decency in a world where 99.9999% don't actually givvashit whether you are faithful to your wife or not.

They become judgemental of everyone else around them expecting the rest of the world to be like them, and failing that, they try to impose their facist morality on the rest of us.

Mind your own business. Republi-pukes.

Of course -- it's all that fundamentalist Christianity, which makes sex into a bad thing so that the leadership can rule people by instilling fear and guilt. When you repress a natural urge, rather than channeling it in healthful ways, it builds up pressure and then comes out in bad ways. (Fundie Muslims have the same problem; I don't know about fundie Jews.)

I wonder if Fox will headline that ruling.

This is third hand crap! I followed the links and it's OLD news about A fox affiliate in florida. The court case was decided in 2000 and the appeal was decided in 2003. Why are they bringing this up now? Nothing better to do?

Bill Lumbergh's picture

The story is being reported inaccurately. The reporters who sued the fox station won initially because the jury found that they were fired for threatening to go to the FCC with their charges of news "distortion". The problem is, the jury didn't really decide if "distortion" had occured, only that the reporters believed it had, and that they were fired for disagreeing with it.
The truth of the story is, if you're a reporter, and you're going to claim that your employer is lying, or making you lie; you'd better be able to prove that it's actually a lie. In this case, both the appeals court and the FCC have ruled that there was no actual "distortion" by the Fox affiliate.
Honestly, don't you think CBS, NBC, ABC and CNN would have been pounding this story about Fox if they found the facts to be on the fired reporter's side?
This is bad blogger journalism.

I tried to touch on the coal issue yesterday.
This is a very serious issue. I feel for the people in W Virginia. And all the other people in these affected states.
What are they going to do for income if they close all of the coal mining? And they're screwed if it stays open.
This makes me think of the clear cutting in the Amazon. Ruining bio diverse eco systems is not the way to go about things.

I still believe that this country can do better.
The problem is, bought and paid for politicians.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

Wasn't his mining company found at fault for what happened a year or so back?

Chinese Web News

* [005] An Internet Boycott On July 1st? (06/24/2009) (Ai weiwei) Boycott the Internet on July 1st, Do not make any explanations, do not count any losses. July 23, 2009.

We got into the situation today because there are too many smart people in China. They always say, "What is the use of doing this? So what if we do it?" I suddenly understand a lot. To make any fight here requires confronting not only power and violence, but also these even smarter critics. They show their wiliness, circumspection and calculations everywhere. They often sound lofty, learned, steady and disciplined.

Similarly, they are not good at doing things. They lack imagination and a sense of humor. After questioning everywhere, they go into hiding with their resignation. Resignation and self-deception are the special characteristics under totalitarianism. Without exception, they are self-exiles and self-intimidators. These prophets tell people calmly: "It is stupid to do this because it is doomed to fail." Before they get the premonition of failure and death, they announced first the need to abandon all efforts. They give up before even the tiniest bit of resistance. They go silent before making any sound. Why bother if failure is inevitable? This is their logic. China does not lack such spectators. They are truly the accomplices of the powers that be. It is there sordid cunning and baseness that enabled the powers. Which bloodshed did not occur under the teary well-intended gaze of these smart people?

The Jane Akre v Newscorp is an old story of course, the reverberations are with us still. Always.

Not to mention Monsanto of course.

The world is not what you might think it is, and they are not going to tell you.

Bill Lumbergh's picture

The akre v fox affiliate is an old, misreported story.
If you do a little background reading on the actual verdict(s), you'll see that Akre never had to prove that there was any distortion in the reporting, only that she believed there to be.
The reason the appeal was lost is because the facts weren't on her side. If Akre had been able to prove that the station was including 'lies' in their report, she'd have won the appeal.

Alice X - Chomsky Nader's picture

Your second and third paragraphs contradict each other.

More important than the lawsuit is the failed state of journalism we have.

Probably more important than even that is the fact that our government has allowed genetic engineering of our food, without requiring labeling, thereby precluding liability. It has allowed numerous contaminants and processes without labeling. Further that these have been allowed without adequate testing.

As far as genetic engineering, the entire world becomes the laboratory. The entirety of humanity the guinea pigs.

You are not alone in not seeing the forest for looking at the trees.°
