Go Home

As Think Progress reported yesterday, the full blown descent into McCarthyism within the Republican Party continues. This time, it's Rep. Robin Hayes of North Carolina. At a McCain event, trying to energize the crowd, Hayes dug deep into his blackened soul and said the following:

Representative Robin Hayes, who prefaced his comments by saying it was important to “make sure we don’t say something stupid, make sure we don’t say something we don’t mean.” Republicans, he reminded the crowd, were kind people. Plus, he added, the liberal media had shown itself eager to distort such remarks. With the crowd duly chastened and put on best behavior, he accused Obama of “inciting class warfare” and said that “liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God.”

Good to know he was trying to keep from saying something stupid. Of course, when confronted, Hayes denied it.

Gosh, I guess that makes having the audio a little troublesome for such a bald-faced liar. By the way, this isn't the first time Robin Hayes has said some monumentally stupid things. He's the representative that was still insisting as late as 2005 that Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11 and that the best thing we could do in Iraq to ensure "victory" is to convert them all Muslims to Christianity.

Blue America candidate Larry Kissell is running against Robin Hayes. You can help his campaign here. The Southern Dem at DailyKos has more...

Just as I have no desire to live under Islamic rule, I have no desire to live in the United States of Theology. Your religion may not be MY religion and I resent you forcing your religion down my throat.

Idiot.

Also, when will these right wing idiots learn about electronic gadgets like recording devices? Bunch of liars, every one.

Welcome to the 1950's - Republican-style!

As a refugee from small town America now living in NYC I find it funny that I've had more opportunity to work and achieve in the Big Apple than I ever did in small towns. I mean, working assembly line, auto detailing and cabinetry was fun and all, but now I actually have a career, make more than 7 bucks an hour and have opportunities to grow in my field.

I think small town America is jealous of all the fun we big city types get to have due to our opportunities to work and achieve our dreams.

Oh, and we have plenty of churches to worship God here too that I happily avoid like the plague.

With losers like Lynn Westmoreland from Georgia and this Douchedaddy from N. Carolina, it's no wonder we who live in the South have such a poor rep.

Don't worry, from the outside most appear the same. Even moderate there seems lunatic to the rest of the real world.

the only people I have utter contempt for are those that would shoot a baby bear in the head, staples some Obama campaign signs to it's lifeless corpse, and then chuck the whole thing onto a school campus. I might even hate people who would do such a horrible thing. And maybe you know those that would use words to create a massive crevasse where once there was only a tiny divide.

I am totally with you on this one.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

... any sick f**k who would murder an innocent bear and then defile his/her corpse in such a cruel, depraved and psychotic way.

I would not shed a single tear if such a person were shot in the testicles first, then in the chest, then in the head.

Sorry. No quarter for such a waste of human DNA.

The Republicans are imploding - first from inside the campaign for President, and now the state campaigns. It is kind of funny to hear and watch them as they flounder about trying to sound relevant.

(1) When he was confronted by a journalist he said he did not say it. (2) When the journalist said, "I have witnesses," his campaign said it was "irresponsible journalism," and added that they had more witnesses who would say he did not say it (i.e., more Republican liars). (3) Finally, when someone came forward with a tape recording and actually played the tape for him he said, well I didn't mean what I said.

These people are shameless. How do "values" voters vote for these immoral fools?

Bless his pointy little head.

When will the corrupt bastards and bitches ever get their due?

Have you seen that clip where the Nazi swastika was blown off the top of Nuremberg Stadium at the end of WWII, thus symbolically ending the hoped-for 1000 year reign of terror?

Someone might wanna show that clip to Karl Rove right about now.

To Michelle Bachman and all these other people who call us liberals "unamerican" or "anti-american", I would just like to ask, "Please define Anti-American." Here, I'll help. Would you allow that a proper definition of unamerican or anti-american could be:
"Engaging in actions never before seen in America; even actions historically disavowed by Americans since 1776" Like maybe torture, locking people up for years without charges even being filed against them; preemptive war? Sounds unamerican to me.

Arkansas Anchorwoman Bludgeoned
By STEVE BARNES
Published: October 21, 2008
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., — Aside from its sheer savagery, the crime was all the more startling for its victim and the venue: Anne Pressly, a popular television anchorwoman, bludgeoned almost beyond recognition in her home in the tony Pulaski Heights neighborhood, only three blocks from the prestigious Country Club of Little Rock.

Ms. Pressly, 26, remained in critical but stable condition Tuesday morning in St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center, said Sgt. Cassandra Davis, a spokeswoman for the Little Rock police. Surgery was anticipated on Monday but was delayed, Sgt. Davis said.

Ms. Pressly was discovered in her bed early Monday morning by her mother, who became alarmed when her daughter failed to answer her routine wake-up call and who then drove to the younger woman’s small rented house. The mother, Patricia Cannady, who was visiting Little Rock from her home in Pawley’s Island, S.C., found her daughter bloodied and unconscious in bed and immediately summoned paramedics.

The police said Ms. Pressly’s wounds were the result of “blunt force trauma” but did not elaborate. Her purse was missing from her home, and her two cocker spaniels were found outside the residence by a neighbor.

“Right now we believe the motive to be robbery,” Sgt. Davis said in an interview, adding that no suspects had been identified. She said there were no visible signs of forced entry to Ms. Pressly’s home.

Ms. Pressly appeared on the “Good Morning, Arkansas” program on KATV-TV, the ABC affiliate where she has been employed since 2004. She had attended a party for a coworker on Sunday night at a Little Rock restaurant and was last seen when she left at 10:30 PM.

A native of Greenville, S.C., and a political science graduate of Rhodes College at Memphis, Tenn., Ms. Pressly had lived in Little Rock since high school. She had worked for the station in various part-time technical and editorial positions before joining its news staff as a producer and reporter.

Ms. Pressly is visible to a much larger audience through an uncredited appearance in “W,” the recently released feature film that purports to explore George W. Bush’s presidency. Ms. Pressly was preparing a feature story on the production, filmed largely in nearby Shreveport, La., when its director, Oliver Stone, noticed her physical resemblance to the conservative commentator Ann Coulter and gave her a cameo role.

Blue Lensman's picture

Can you provide a link to info other than the fact she had a small part in "W"?

This is tragic and I hope C&L will follow the story. In light of certain other violent incidents specifically against those who support the Obama/Biden ticket - we would all like - I think - to be reassured as to the nature of the motive in this case.

It does seem that the especially violent nature of the attack goes beyond what was called for in a case of robbery. Whoever this was responsible - I hope they get their f***ing ass nailed to the wall.

My best wishes to Ms. Pressly for a full recovery.

I have said, "monumentally stupid things", many times before. I may just say 1 again, right now;

Liberals," http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberalism ", are not against god. For The People, We the people. Prosperity for every 1.

What I don't like are all the businesses and "high up" positions only seem to be filled with weekly church goers, or a elite group of a few family's. What ever you want to call it. It is very obvious to me.

That is really my only serious "beef" with America.

Skill should equal success, it doesn't.
Not family status.

You're running against Dukakis-voting, tax-and-spend, flag-burning, welfare-loving liberals from nearly twenty years ago. It's been done.

You shoulda slung more shit at W when you had the chance in 2004. Maybe then your campaign against Kerry might have been a little more current. But you never got that far. You didn't have a clue then, and you learned nothing in the meantime, other than to employ the people who slimed you. Different times.

No preznitcy for you.

This is so remarkably ignorant I don't know where to start.

I hope Americans are too diligent to let this happen to our country again. With the blogosphere in place we should be able to hold these egregiously misguided and hate motivated attacks at bay and scornfully relegate them - as appropriate - to the political trashbin. Why do people elect these dunderheads? I know, I know....

This is called the UNITED states of America. Anyone who continues to advocate hate, division and plain dumbness like this clown is actually a TRAITOR to our Democratic ideals.

I say America ... LOVE it or get the heck out of our UNITED States of America!

Church Lady Has Moose Lips's picture

Every time I hear one of these right wing nut jobs going on about god and republicans and telling me how I hate America because my politics are more liberal than theirs, I've just been writing a check to the opposition.

A few months back, thousands of us wrote the DNC begging them to start fighting back with aggressive media campaigns, remembering how polite and gracious Gore and Kerry were in campaigning and in defeat.

I have no idea if this made any impact or not but its obvious something has changed over last 5 or 6 weeks and the media blitz is working (in concert with a collapsing economy). In the perfect good cop/bad cop combination Obama keeps his poise and the media team is keeping the pressure on the Bush regime.

And why not? Its an investment I hope brings me better returns than some fraudulent bank fund run by criminal corporations bailed out by a corrupt government. So, for now while I still have a job... it seems the right thing to do.

Representative Robin Hayes
United States House of Representatives
130 Cannon House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Congressman Hayes:

While I no longer live in North Carolina I was born and raised there, and am proud of that heritage. My mother and siblings still live there, and I love returning home. However, the hatred I have heard you spew recently at a political rally has tarnished my home state, and is an insult to Tarheels everywhere.

You stated, “Folks, there’s a real America. Liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God.” And then you made it all the worse by lying about making the comment. Do you not know that most political rallies get recorded?

Let me be clear about this. I am not ashamed to wear the designation of “liberal.” Quite frankly, most of the best things America has accomplished have been “liberal” programs. As a member of the Republican Party, you sir have no moral authority to question the patriotism, hard work and beliefs of any other American.

I have worked hard and accomplished much. While in North Carolina I served on two legislatively mandated committees and provided testimony on the public records law to the North Carolina Legislature. I have volunteered extensively for several AIDS support groups in North Carolina, and volunteered regularly at the homeless shelter in Winston-Salem. I have received the highest awards of my industry. I have a home, a job, friends and family. I am a life-long active Methodist who believes in God, and I believe in the New Testament message of loving all people…not spreading hate and fomenting divisiveness. I even teach Sunday School, but I’ll bet you rarely even attend church.

Mr. Hayes, you are in no position make a judgment about my character, and I resent the aspersions you have cast on over half the people in this country. I for one have had enough, and I demand that you issue a public apology and resign immediately from the United States House of Representatives. This great country can no longer survive if it continues to aid and abet people such as you.

If you so love God, then I call to your attention his words in Micah 6:8, “He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.” I call on you to live by these words. You, Mr. Hayes, have disparaged people you do not know, and then lied about it. You no longer have the moral authority to be a leader in this Country.

Okay, let's review what we know about "Real Americans," shall we?

Real Americans:
* Work
* Achieve
* Believe in God
* Lie their asses off

Is that about it?

grayforester's picture

Liberals do not hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God. Liberals run such people for President. Conservatives tend to run legacy screw-ups with daddy issues.

Spaghetti Monster's picture

Consider this: with all the hate mongering the Republicans have spread in this country a “perfect storm” opportunity for Al Qadea arises to bring this country to the brink of a civil war, and bring Charlie Mansons Helter Skelter to fruition.

If Obama gets elected, an opportunity will arise for a covert behind the scenes Al Qadea Obama assassination and leave “foot prints” pointing to some red neck or KKK. The probability such an action would cause nationwide riots would be just too good to pass up. They could bring the United States to its knees with one bullet.
