...Or reason #7,589 why the Media is hurting America.

This clip is so unfocused that I think it perfectly exemplifies how the media dumbs down the populace so that the average American hasn't a clue what's going on.

Chris Matthews starts the segment by bemoaning that the Obama administration has no really strong spokespeople out there to sell their economic plan. So far, no argument there. The Republicans have been much better in throwing sand in our eyes and giving these easily digestible soundbytes that sound good on the surface. Of course, that's when Matthews goes off the rails a bit and says that the Obama needs someone as clear as Limbaugh to speak for the administration, but as Clarence Page suggests, that's only if you want to convince a very small portion of the citizenry:

MATTHEWS: You know who can talk? You know who can talk? Limbaugh. You don’t have to like the big guy, but you know what he does? He defends capitalism. What he says is, “You, Mr. President, are out there raising taxes and getting rid of deductability and itemization and putting more injury on those of us who are already injured. You’re hurting the people who are driving the truck.”

PAGE: Right, and nobody believes that but dittoheads. The fact is, Bush has already done the same darn thing. That argument isn’t working right now. People know that government is in a spend mode, and by the way, you know we’ve been in….

MATTHEWS: Limbaugh’s numbers are doubled. Barack Obama’s numbers are not doubled.

PAGE: That’s his job, though, look at the numbers. About 18% of the public agrees with Limbaugh. You don’t win elections that way, you get radio ratings. But ever since Reagan, we’ve been on a trend of taxing lower income people and giving breaks to the upper income. Obama has slightly reversed that now, and I don’t see a revolution in the streets.

Nice of Matthews to go ahead and echo the ratings/audience share exaggeration for Limbaugh. Who needs facts?

The panel then admits that Wall Street are looking for immediate solutions with no pain to them. Gosh, that's not an unrealistic outlook at all, is it? The continued focus on the tax increases on the wealthiest 2% of the population is simply intended to scare the rest of us schmoes not making that kind of cash...and as CNBC's Trish Regan admits, won't even come into play until 2011. Rick Stengel has the money quote (literally):

STENGEL: Look, I confess that some of my best friends are investment bankers. You know, I won’t…you shouldn’t hold it against me. But they are… to a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail. They are just looking at the things that help them. They are not looking for the wider economy, the relationship between Wall St. and actual value of companies has never been wider. And by the way, I’d say to Rush Limbaugh, and as he says to his folks, how is capitalism working for you these days? Not very good, right? I mean, these people are hurting and people want to have the government do something.

That's it in a nutshell, isn't it? These "economic experts" like Limbaugh are big WATBs complaining because THEY are hurt. They couldn't care less about the country as a whole. But to further obfuscate the issue, Matthews' Meter Question asks if we should blame the Obama administration for some of the economic doom and gloom:
CMS-Limbaugh-Market2_241b4.jpg
Um, excuse me? Didn't we just agree that all this hand-wringing and pearl-clutching over the stimulus plan is due to economists looking for an unrealistic quick fix that offers no pain to them, even if it's not in the best interest for the country? How's that the Obama administration's fault. Even reliable GOP mouthpiece Kathleen Parker (who voted yes) admits that the stock market performed worse under Bush.

Once again, the Fourth Estate abdicates their responsibility to inform the public.

Does anyone really expect for a bunch of sell-out traitors to "see the light". Everyone of these scum-suckers needs to be living pay check to pay check to see how much they like it, then we will see some truth from them, fuckin skunks.CEO,citizens,eyes,open.

)O(

For this "joke" to work wouldn't they have to admit rash limpballs IS their spokesman, the very thing their trying not to admit without offending his assholiness?

So if FAUX ratings go down do they credit Obama?

For Bush's first 4 years and beyond it was all Clinton's fault. 9/11, recession etc...It would only seem fair that Obama gets at least one year to blame Bush. I agree with Rush on one point. The MSM are a bunch of hacks.

the GOP can have it both ways. they can make excuses for bush for 8 years and then blame obama for all the corruption and fuck ups.

its good to expose limbaugh but they still have 1000 radio stations to enable the hypocrisy and control the flavor of the trad media.

The only one more gutteral, vulgar, and patently evil than Rush Limbaugh is Satan himself.

I think Tweetie's indulging himself way beyond his pay grade here. He's running out of credible things to discuss but wants to keep the Limbaugh "flame" alive because it's tanked the GOP's numbers in the past two weeks like nothing else.

Obama doesn't need a loud-mouthed moron "barker" because he's not running a sideshow like Limbaugh is. Fact is Obama has the populace behind him in huge support. No need to try to polish the turd left behind by George W. Bush.

Thanks to tweetie's continued but faux adulation for Rushbo, there is no "talking head" for the GOP right now. Boehner, the Pedophile and Cantor, the closet perv have all but faded into obscurity, thanks to Rush taking the spotlight.

to document that Rush's ratings went up. More B.S. being pushed by the MSM.

When will Matthews get it? We are tired of this horseshit! Enough about Limbaugh Chris. You have spent a week on that blowhard.

When are you going to say anything about foreign policy? The I/Palestinian conflict, Iran, the Congo

We will keep heading for the Internet, Crooks and Liars, Firedoglake, John Dean, Juan Cole, Salon for our information and critical thinking.

The Peasant

Who knows when these self important tripe meisters will ever get it---with their fixation on trivia and creating controversy where there is none, I would say (with a few exceptions) that the MSM in the US is a lost cause. Or more correctly, a propaganda arm of the Neocon party.

This "discussion" is emblematic of how the MSM has debased and trivialized our political dialogue. Apparently all it takes for them is to get a big salary, and important title, and voila---you can be an instant expert on all matters and arrogantly offer meaningless drivel with impunity. The reality is that this panel is utterly clueless and adds nothing worthwhile to the rebuilding of America. They tear down what those with integrity, patience, and courage seek to rebuild.

...call what they are doing "perception management". A quaint Orwellian euphamism, what? There is nothing accidental about the process. Their specific purpose is to degrade, trivialize and utterly control the national dialog. Members of the panel may be utterly clueless "useful idiots", but you can be assured that the executives who run these propaganda organs are not. They know exactly what they are doing and why they are doing it. The Neocons have no hope of controling this nation if the do not control not only all channels of mass-consumed information but also all or most channels of official information (hence, the CIA's "B" Team). The people who are orchestrating these efforts are playing for keeps.

Here you matthews here is some worthy coverage

Isn't That SCREAMINGLY Obvious !

Who's the babe with the hot rack? Haven't seen her before.

I assume you mean Trish Regan of CNBC.

The other female is Kathleen Parker, who we've featured here a few times before.

)O(

Ooohh yeah babe...do talking head for me....

Chris Matthews is the best in the business. There is no slicker corporate media tool than he is, not even Bill O'Reilly, as most Dems have caught on to Loofaboy's game but still trust Tweety. He may sound liberal at times but he will always betray those principles for the almighty dollar of big business. I've seen this hypocrite in action many times before.

As a lib, I can't stand Matthews. Ever since his homoerotic treatise on Bush in a flight suit, I've liked him even less. Plus he interrupts constantly when interviewing someone.

...a shallow idiot. I'm sorry, but matthews is a shill and a transparent whore. He is the "little limpballs" when it comes to keeping himself "relevent".

He says crap to keep his pathetic name in the blogs and news. He is smart enough to know that if he doesn't act like an ass and stir up controversy, he will be just a boring, hyperactive ex-politician, as shallow of virtue as joe the plummer.

I'm not surprised tweety played stupid today. It comes easy to him.

cris mathis is just another
dumb fucking moron...
sorry to other morons for
insulting you.

where he looks like he has gone off his meds. Seriously, he bounces around so much you just want to scream, stop breathe. After watching Matthews for a number of years it becomes obvious he likes powerful, forceful people. He just can't get enough of them. There is something twisted in his brain, honestly. Look how frequently he has on indicted, disgraced Tom DeLay.

YUP! YUP! YUP!

How disingenuous can you be? He damn well knows taxes are going up for ONLY 2% of the wealthiest Americans, THAT just happens to be HIS team.

Cap the news readers' salaries at $200,000 if you want to hear some truth.

And is there anybody in America who believes Obama is responsible for the market falling, after it dropped 50% BEFORE he stepped into office? %$#@ I'm so tired of that lame meme.

brainstem and vocal cords are in tandem a random word/idea/sentence generator that is fuelled by self-loathing and reinforced by his audience, another variation on the same theme. What comes out of their pie holes is of no value to the concerned citizen.

BOYCOTT MSNBC, FOX and their advertisers. Better yet, cancel your cable service and throw the #$%*@! TV out the window.

He may sound sane now and then but most of the time, as someone already mentioned, it's like he's gone off his meds. In the middle of some Michael Steele rundown a week or 2 ago, he mentioned he thought Steele was a nice guy and that he, Matthews, had even voted for him in 2006 for the Senate. Huh? Against Ben Cardin and for someone even the right-wing Washington Post recalled had failed at every option he tried in life. Is Matthews for real? I pity his wife; she was a wonderful local anchor here for as number of years. How can she put up with him?

(pre-privatization = Nationalization)

Problem I have with Geithner is that he defends not nationalizing banks because government shouldn't be in the business of running banks, which is ideology. I'm not hearing a fact based rationale for why continuing the bailout will get us out of trouble faster than nationalization.

I suppose the $64,000 question, as posed by Blodget is that Geithner ...“Refused to revisit or defend his almost certainly inaccurate view that this crisis is merely a temporary price decline caused by a lack of liquidity, rather than a collapse of a debt-driven economy.”

It's been my view for several years that an unsustainable debt bubble was building.

When Geithner rolled out his solution, the speech was certainly vague. Nothing vague about Limbaugh.

..was an incomprehensible, world-class screwup. That guy is owned, body and soul, by the banking industry. Nothing good can come from that appointment.

Remember Matthews (is?was) a Bush/Reagan republicans until he wanted rating by taking up Obama when the republicans fell into the cellar..

Matthews has a lot of Republicans BS'ers on his program and Patrick J. Buchanan is one of his favorites..

Also Matthews gives Ehrlich the ex-corporate governor of Maryland time on his show exposing him for his coming bid for governor? of Maryland.

Ehrlich and Steele were corporate lovers when they were in office of Maryland and they also pulled some corrupted policies including charges of trying to play the role of democrats and state that democratic leaders were supporting them...

Abramoff Corruption ties to Maryland Governor Ehrlich (R) Office

Matthews knows that Rush's audience numbers are exaggerated by a factor of 10, yet he gives them legitimacy by repeating these hyper-inflated numbers on his show(s). And NO ONE calls him on it!

His misrepresentation of what's going on with the Stock Market is just more of the "Matthews' Method"--he's very good at misdirection by implying incompetence onto the wrong party/individual. Another example is this on-going story line that he won't let go of involving the White House vs. Rush Limbaugh. He keeps stating that the Obama administration is hot & heavy in their attacks on Rush--which is absolute Bullshit! Aside from Rahm's statement on Face The Nation, and Gibbs observation at the W.H. press conference--both of which happened over a week ago--there has been nothing further about Rush out of the White House-zero-yet there's Chris, ranting about the huge Obama-Rush conflict damn near everyday!

He's really a dangerous little tool--his modus operandi is to behave as if he were the annointed voice of populism, just a regular guy among many. He tries to lure in unsuspecting viewers with his faux-pro middle class sincerity, only to then spring his extreme neo-con leanings. It's like watching a too-slick used car salesman at work. For further proof all one need do is watch his obvious (& nauseating) elation whenever he has someone like Tom Delay, or Trent Lott on his show--he damn near wets himself.

Tweety fails the responsible pundit test each time he has Lott or Delay on
his shows.

DISGUSTING......... I expected him to lock lips with these Rethugs and feared it so much, I simply
stopped watching him.

A friend of mine who works for GE very recently told me that the company is in the process of checking the emails and web usage of all of its employees (billions of documents), because too many unflattering things are being said about GE/NBC on blogs. They are unhappy about their "news" operation being criticized from within on blog comment sections as being the anti-American, right wing propaganda apparatus that it mostly is. This person said that GE is planning to fire anybody whom they can prove has criticized NBC/MSNBC propagandizing in general and numbnuts like Tweety, Gregory, Scarborough or the like in particular.

If that is true, to my thinking, such a move would only consolidate and strengthen any charges of conspiracy to defraud the public that may one day be leveled against GE and the other corporations that form the monopolistic cartel that is abusing the public and the public trust through their coordinated, top-down orchestrated propaganda. GE would probably be within their rights to do such a thing, but it would not do their public image any good when word of it went viral on the blogosphere (doubtless, nary a word would be mentioned in the MSM).

Honestly, who give a crap about this? The GOP will lay the blame on Obama. (As if no one could have guessed this.) Can we move on now? This is the kind of tripe that Obama opted not to dignify by acknowledgment. We should too. There are more important issues at hand. Let's stop the hand-wringing and take care of business. Madoff should be in jail, period. Sic the dogs on the raiders who ran their companies into the ground while lining their pockets. Bring Carl Rove and Harriet Miers to frickin testify already! War crimes. Global warming. The financial crisis. Don't we have enough REAL issues to tackle?

Whatever the reason, the Republican failure to either distance or embrace Limbaugh does them no favors at all. In one case they lose the Mainstream vote. In the second they lose their base. The people in charge of tactics at the GOP have failed big time. This only became an issue as Limbaugh was a speaker at Cpac. A keynote Speaker. Of course the Democrats highlighted this. It could be good enough to win them the election in 2012. A good insurance policy in case of period of recession takes longer to recover than is thought of. He's such a fat nism.

Geithner is a Fed crook.
