Delusions of grandeur: Militia video warns President Obama to leave the country by Oct. 15

Rob Waters at Hatewatch happened to catch the above short-lived video the other day:
It advises President Obama and other prominent people (“Our Dear Leader and co.”) to “leave now and give us our country back” and to do so by next week.
“If you stay,” the silent video message continues, “ ‘We, The People’ will systematically dismantle you, destroy you and reclaim what is rightfully ours. …
“We are angry and we are ready to take back the rights of the people. We will fight and We will win. …
“Dead line [sic] for your national response: October 15, 2009
“Thank you to all patriots who support our cause. … Be prepared for when the fateful day of the declaration of war is nationally announced.”
As the post notes in an update, the video was taken down shortly after it appeared on the SPLC site with no explanation. However, we managed to capture it before then and have reproduced it here in its original form, with a C&L tag at the end.
The "National Militia, Soldiers of Freedom" is not a known organization of any kind. Most likely it is some guy sitting in his basement.
This is about 99.99999999 percent certain to be just so much hot air from the "Patriot" movement and its attendant lunatic fringe. It reminds me of the threat to organize a "Million Man Militia" march back in July that never came close to materializing.
These kinds of delusions of grandeur are endemic to the Patriot movement, and are part and parcel of the grand paranoia about a looming New World Order planning to imprison conservatives and the radical communist regime of Barack Obama. That is, not only do they wildly imagine the nefarious conspiracy out to destroy America, but their imaginations similarly run riot when assessing their own breadth and strength -- not mention their abilities to act on their fantasies.
Still, the spread of this kind of rhetoric underscores the violent mindset of the militia units we now see forming at various locales around the country. Eventually, someone competent is going to act on it. And it's clearly being abetted by the wild fearmongering being promulgated by the likes of Glenn Beck and other right-wing pundits.
Indeed, you have to wonder if this is the kind of thing Glenn Beck had in mind in his recent interview with Newsmax:
"I fear a Reichstag moment," he said, referring to the 1933 burning of Germany's parliament building in Berlin that the Nazis blamed on communists and Hitler used as an excuse to suspend constitutional liberties and consolidate power.
"God forbid, another 9/11. Something that will turn this machine on, and power will be seized and voices will be silenced."
Of course, I think we can predict now that if there is another Oklahoma City -- rather than a 9/11 -- Glenn Beck will also be calling it a "Reichstag moment" and claiming it's the product of a government conspiracy to clamp down on civil rights.
This is why he and the rest of the right-wing chorus have been so eager to dismiss the existence of right-wing extremists -- even in the face of obvious evidence that the violent crazies are coming out of the woodwork. We can thank the tea parties for providing the fertile ground for much of this rhetoric.
If you want a sampling of how bad it's getting, check out the video below, which I captured from the same YouTube site as the one that hosted the "warning" video. The owner stocks it up with Alex Jones conspiracy videos, but this profile of the militias caught my eye:
The main militiaman featured in this is a fellow, evidently from Oklahoma, who calls himself "July4Patriot" and is one of the key players in an outfit of veterans who call themselves the "Oath Keepers". They're organized around a batch of wild conspiracy theories involving supposed plans to use the military to begin rounding up American citizens and placing them in concentration camps.
Indeed, you can see "July4Patriot" -- whose real name is Marine Sgt. Charles Dyer -- in action at a July 4 "Tea Party" in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, in the video we snagged earlier this summer. At that event, Dyer ranted at length about the supposed roundup conspiracy.
There's a growing contingent of people out there on the fringes who not only really believe Glenn Beck when he warns that the government wants to destroy America, but think he's being too tame. And of course, the crazier his claims become, the farther out to sea they all go.

Which passed in the House about two years ago almost unanimously I believe got stalled in Lieberman's Senate Homeland Security Committee.
The problem I had with it was that Rep. Jane Harman, who hatched the concept with Lieberman, had a committee hearing with a guy from Rand who declared that "Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth" was an example of a "Homegrown Terrorism Group" because they were questioning the "official" story of 9/11 and the "9/11 Commission Report".
I am almost certain that act passed. I wrote a post on it last year (or the year before). Jane Harmon sucked for that act. It was so broad it could encompass you and me for writing what we are writing now.

I've seen software for sale on the net which when embeded in ads disables adblock's effect.(the "block" tab will not pop up)
What really bothers me, since I never look at the content of ads anyway, is the jumping, spinning, bouncing flash crap that makes it impossible to read.
What is truly beautiful is adblock + flashblock, which covers all flash content. Anything you want to view, like the videos here, is easily unblocked with a single click.

It's not well publicized, but the actual Tea Party movement began as a response to Bush, in either 2007 or 2008. It's just that Glenn Beck et al. hijacked the movement name and spun it into something partisan, and partly changed the message about what they oppose, to equal their caricature of Obama.

I think these so called "real Americans" are vastly underestimating the retaliation they face not just from law enforcement, but from ordinary citizens like themselves who will not tolerate this degree of sedition against a leader who has thus far not destroyed the Constitution, and who has restored hope and dignity to our country. I had to edit to ask another question: Are you sure the second video wasn't done by the taliban?
Was it edited by the youtuber? The reason I ask is because it features some brief commentary by the author and journalist Chris Hedges who is actually quite brilliant. He's also not a conspiracy theorist or a supporter of militia groups. And I think this footage was of him answering questions about his book American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America. I just found it an odd juxtaposition, since it's essentially an investigative journalist warning about the violent rhetoric of the right spliced into a video of the violent rhetoric of the right. If the youuber edited this, then he or she either didn't understand what Hedges' position was, or was intentionally trying to smear him, or perhaps was actually trying to use Hedge's insights to scare people into doing something about the violent rhetoric. I'm not sure.
It would be akin to splicing footage of David Neiwert into the video to drive home the point that militias are really dangerous--an odd thing to do for a militia member.

I would like to say that "We the people" elected Barack Obama to the office of President of The United States by an overwhelming majority. It has become apparant that the republican party cannot in any stgretch of the imagination believe that a full two-thirds of the American voters elected this man to the office of President of The United States. They will do anything, and I mean anything, to remove him from the office that they believe is their god given right to hold. After all, Chimpy was ordained by god now wasn't he?

What I can't comprehend from listening to them is why it's DEMOCRATS and liberals that cause them to be so angry and anti-government rather than REPUBLICANS and conservatives.

• Republicans and conservatives are always on the side of big business, not the individual citizen. Anytime there is a push to advance a cause which will help ordinary Americans but might change the staus quo for corporate America, guess who the Republicans are going to fight tooth and nail for? One is available free, online, simply called "The Authoritarians", and his other work, "The Authoritarian Specter", should be in stores.
Altemeyer, an American working at the University of Manitoba, has spent the last 30 years collecting empirical data, and developing identifying profiles of the Authoritarian mindset, and both these books are a great read. John Dean highlights Dr Bobs' research in his study, "Conservatives Without Conscience.
Simply put, you have two kinds of Authoritarians, RWAs'(right-wing authoritarian), whom are the followers, and the SDO, (social dominator)they are the leaders.
Both are incapable of seeing hypocrisy, both are highly likely to commit acts of aggression and violence toward a perceived (minority)threat, both are attracted to conservatism, for the feel of security.
Not all conservatives are Authoritarian, but most Authoritarians are Conservative.
