Some idiot got access to press credentials and got into an Obama campaign rally yesterday in Berea, Ohio and began heckling the candidate, demanding he say the pledge of allegiance. Obama handled it perfectly by quieting the crowd and calling the guy's bluff by leading the crowd in reciting the pledge.

A man sneaks into the press area at a presidential campaign event, interrupts him with heckling and attempts to make him look unpatriotic, and how does FOXNews frame the story? Obama SKIPPED the pledge of allegiance! He hates America, don't you know.

Since when is the pledge of allegiance required to be recited before all campaign events?

This is great. After FOX News altered the images of two New York Times reporters they accused of writing a "hit piece" on the network, Vanity Fair magazine decided to do a little photoshopping of their own.

WARNING: Some readers may find these images disturbing.

And in case you're not on Chris Dodd's email list, a little note from him on FISA:

A Heavy Heart: Yesterday was a sad day for the United States Senate.

It is my hope that the courts will undo the damage done to the Constitution.

But let us stand tall, knowing that by working together we were able to make wiretapping and retroactive immunity part of the national discourse these last number of months.

We came together - all of you, Senator Feingold, bloggers like Jane Hamsher and Glenn Greenwald, organizations like the EFF and ACLU, and untold hundreds of thousands of Americans who simply wanted to make sure that this one, last insult did not happen with ease.

I'm sorry we weren't successful.

I just hope I'm lucky enough to have you by my side in the next fight, whatever that may be.

Thanks for all you've done.

Chris Dodd

Cavuto's Saturday Stock show framing problem

(click on the picture for larger size)

I always have a wonderful time pointing out the favorable push the GOP gets from FOX. I've talked often about their Saturday morning stock line up that's chock full of free market----tax cut---worshipers. On Neil Cavuto's show, he framed two segments in contrasting ways that obviously favor Republicans. In the first segment, he focused on Hillary's new economic stimulus plan and asked if it will boost the economy or just...hint...hint "buy votes."

The last segment of the show featured Rudy's new plan and framed it as a historic proposal and asks if it's the best plan for our economy. Hmmmm, you mean Rudy wouldn't be trying to "buy votes" during primary season? So Hillary just wants to buy your vote and Rudy wants to save your life. Nice! The guests were fairly balanced in their responses, but that's not the point. It's all in the framing and how it leads the discussion on the topic.

Paul Krugman on all the candidates: Responding to Recession

Meanwhile, Rudy Giuliani wants us to go for broke, literally: his answer to the economy’s short-run problems is a huge permanent tax cut, which he claims would pay for itself. It wouldn’t.

------

Last week Hillary Clinton offered a broadly similar but somewhat larger proposal. (It also includes aid to families having trouble paying heating bills, which seems like a clever way to put cash in the hands of people likely to spend it.) The Edwards and Clinton proposals both contain provisions for bigger stimulus if the economy worsens. And you have to say that Mrs. Clinton seems comfortable with and knowledgeable about economic policy.

What a wonderful caption on Cavuto's show...

"Sex with underage Boys: Could it be a Good Thing?"

(h/t Brent for sending this in last week)

Update from Site Monitors: Yeah, yeah it's a fake. Original here, btw. Fox would rather hypothesize that "all out civil war in Iraq" might be a good thing. Geez, you guys are gonna be no fun at all when we do "Blogroll Amnesty - All Malkin, All the Time" on April Fools' Day.

We all know that FOXNews is famous for switching R's to D's when Republicans get into trouble or they don't like what they hear from one, but they changed up their tactics in the case of Senator Lavvy Craig's potty scandal. Instead of assigning him to the bad, naughty, nasty Democratic party, in the below article from their website FOX chose to completely leave out his political affiliation altogether. That's right, nowhere in the article will you see the word REPUBLICAN attached to Senator Larry Craig's name. The article also quotes numerous Republicans stating their disdain for the Senator's actions -- attempting to give the impression they weren't talking about a fellow Republican. Brilliant!

Denying that he did anything wrong and stating emphatically that "I am not gay," Sen. Larry Craig asked the people of Idaho on Tuesday to forgive him for being arrested two months ago in a police sting in a men's room at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Craig, who was taken into custody on June 11 by a plainclothes officer investigating reports of lewd conduct in the restroom, said he pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge in an effort to suppress a story — pursued by his home-state newspaper — that he has secretly engaged in gay trysts.

Meanwhile, back in Washington, Republican leaders announced they will launch an ethics review of the senator.

UPDATE: As Media Matters points out, on August 27th, between 5:00pm and 11:00pm, FOXNews devoted just 3:47 seconds to the Larry Craig scandal as opposed to 8:26 from MSNBC and 20:38 from CNN. Read more...

I've posted the rest of the FOX article below instead of asking our fine readers to link to their site. :)

Fox Chyron Tech Takes A Segment Off

We've covered some of the hackery of the Fox chyron techs labeling Republicans in a scandal as a "D" or just putting up ridiculous headlines. But what do you suppose it means when the Neal Cavuto interviews reporter Laura Ingalls and FOXNews treats her not as a reporter but like a Hooter Girl and suddenly chyron tech decides that titles (including giving her name) are just not that important? (h/t Paddy)

Newshounds has the story....

Remind me again, why was Hillary's cleavage such an important story for FOX?  Three full news cycles on the notion that Hillary might have breasts.  And now this...well, what can you expect from a Murdoch company?  I'm expecting Page 3 Girls in the WSJ any day now....

FOX NEWS labels Arlen Specter a Democrat!

specter-democrat-hume.jpg How dare he grill Alberto Gonzalez like that! The longtime Republican Senator was credited with the Magic Bullet theory of the JFK assassination by the Warren commission.

fox-obamachicken.jpg The entire quote is: "I think that nobody wants to play chicken with our troops on the ground." Why would FOX leave out the first four words? Or why not at least include "nobody"? There's plenty of room. I'd love to say that this was a mere oversight, no malicious intent. Their track record, however, doesn't assuage my suspicion.
