The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Sunday activated its emergency alert system after reports of an armed and dangerous person on or near campus.

Email and text messages sent Sunday afternoon to students, faculty and staff advised those on campus to seek shelter immediately, to close windows and doors and remain inside until further notice.
