CNN host Dana Bash called out DHS Sec. Markwayne Mullin for inflating his voter fraud claims in the country by using his own figures, which forced Mullin to lie about a New Jersey computer glitch to make it appear that thousands of noncitizens voted there.

They did not.

DHS Mullin, like every Trump cabinet member, either outright lies when defending the indefensible or conflates actual data to make their case seem plausible.

BASH: And just on the non-citizen voters, your own data, data that we have seen, does not back up the claim of widespread non-citizen voter fraud.

I mean, just in Texas, DHS originally identified 2,724 possible non-citizen voters after running 18 million registrations in your database.

MULLIN: Well, let's just look at what happened in New Jersey.

How many did the governor of New Jersey say that they identified voted in their elections illegally?

Wasn't it over 30,000? And that number is going to grow. So that number right there will tell you what you have is wrong in front of you. Because that was just in New Jersey.

I'm telling you right now.

(A computer glitch caused a problem, but only 400 people voted illegally.)

BASH: It's from your data.

MULLIN: Well, I just, did you also see what the governor of New Jersey put out? Because I know you did, because you guys ran it.

BASH: I did.

MULLIN: It was over 30,000, right? That was just in New Jersey. And I think that number is low.

So when you start talking about the other ones, I just told you we have over 300,000 we're looking into. And that number is growing. We have over 1,620 open cases, and we've made 151 arrests already.

Bash did a good job calling him out on his own data, which didn't support any of the lies he spewed, but Dana did not know the facts about the New Jersey glitch, unfortunately.

If she did, the rest of the interview would have gone much differently.

When a new report uses the word "potential," Mullin treats it as fact so he can mislead the public at large.

The New Jersey Globe reported, "that Mercer County had potentially allowed more than 30,000 voters who received vote-by-mail ballots to also vote in-person on voting machines."

The AP reported that the true number of noncitizens that registered to vote in NJ was 6600.

Gov. Mike Sherrill responded, "A preliminary analysis showed that fewer than 400 of those who registered that way went on to cast ballots."

Markwayne Mullin lied about New Jersey. Mullin repeatedly said during the interview with Bash that 30,000 voted illegally.

They did not.
