Ted Cruz's new campaign ad slated for New Hampshire features a horde of bankers crossing the border to seek asylum in the U.S.
TPM:
The ad, titled "Invasion," is scheduled to air statewide in New Hampshire. The cost of the ad buy was unclear.
In the ad, the senator narrates the bizarre, business-casual invasion, saying the immigration debate would be different if those who entered the country illegally were taking office jobs away from journalists or lawyers.
Because facts do not matter to Republicans, it makes no difference to them that Mexican immigration has been a net zero for a couple of years. It also doesn't matter that the jobs immigrants fill are ones most people won't take anyway. Facts aren't something that matter to Republican candidates, and this cycle is notable for its lack of them.
The ad plays into the overarching theme in this year's GOP primary. "Others" are taking your jobs and your security. Be afraid. The people who believe this crap ought to go to a Bernie Sanders rally and learn who is really responsible for that.
I think it would be a clever ad in a different context, even if it is from the smarmiest man running for the Republican nomination. Trump may be a huckster, but Cruz is a schemer, which qualifies him as the slimiest of them all.
