Thank goodness John Oliver was on last night.
His review of the Republican Convention could have come sooner, but still, it was just what we all needed. The RNC was "the most apocalyptic thing ever to happen to [Cleveland], and keep in mind, their river has repeatedly caught fire."
John's staff did an awesome job finding clips where various Republican speakers and pundits talked about how people "feel" that America has failed, when in fact those "feelings" are not backed up with facts. Highlighted, as he should be, is Newt Gingrich, whose defense of feelings over facts betrays his role as the founding father of all that is wrong with the Republican Party today.
It's unfortunate HBO did not post his video tribute to departing Fox News President Roger Ailes. If you have HBO and missed last night's show that is worth catching.
Also not covered is John's terrific assessment of the respective running mates for both parties. While Hillary's choice Tim Kaine is "a rice cooker. A plain white machine that cooks plain white rice," Republican Mike Pence "is a rice cooker covered in homophobic slogans which is currently being held by a chimpanzee who could bite your face off.”
“So relax, Democrats, it could have been worse.”
