When you're the Stupidest Man on the Internet, there's not much farther to fall, but somehow Gateway Pundit Jim Hoft managed to find that lower place.
As Jim Hoft combed through the stolen Wikileaks Podesta emails a couple of days ago, he came across something! Something big! Something worthy of a front page splash headline!
Even Maria Bartiromo thought it was big, though she actually deleted her retweet of a racist Twitter account about it after she realized that the account was a REALLY BAD racist account.
I’ve already been mad once this morning at some bullshit “sand n***er” thing Hillary Clinton supposedly said in one of her Wikileaked emails. (She hadn’t; she had forwarded a newspaper article that used the term, putting it into the mouths of cops who had left a Palestinian man to die in the desert.)
Got that? She forwarded an article. But the Stupidest Man On The Internet just couldn't resist. He went with the story even though it's clearly just someone forwarding an email quoting someone who used a terrible term. We don't need to call anyone sand n----rs, ever.
It galls me that these right-wing sites just slap up whatever they want without actually having any facts. Their dialogue must go like this:
"Look, there's the n-word in her email!"
"She's a racist!"
"Oh, well, it's really from an article that was forwarded and translated Not her saying it or being at all supportive of it."
"WHO CARES, PUBLISH IT ANYWAY. CALL HER A RACIST. IT'S WHAT WE DO. BE SURE TO HAVE FELLOW FROGS RETWEET IT TOO"
The "sand n----r" email was from 2012, when she was Secretary of State. But Hoft smelled blood and dug into the Podesta emails, where he found a vile and disgustingly racist email sent to Podesta from a Netherlands email address. And so the dialogue continues.
"Look at this email from the Netherlands we found in the WikiLeaks dump! IT'S SO RACIST AND WE LOVE IT."
"Publish it and be sure to say that Hillary Clinton is a racist because it was in HER STAFF'S EMAIL."
About that Netherlands email address...
Looking at the disgusting twitter account that Maria Bartiromo had (whoops!) retweeted led to a long, fun (not fun) email in the Wikileaks from a lunatic who had all kinds of bizarre theories about “shopping carts.” (“Shopping carts” is the new “deplorables,” except for black people and Gypsies?) The person writing was, frankly, insane. And really racist! Like whoa racist! Like Donald Trump Nazi-frog supporter racist!
The email address that did the sending was “firstname.lastname@example.org.” It sent screeds to Hillary Clinton adviser John Podesta and a shitload of HuffPo bloggers. If you check the tipline at wonkette.com, you will see a lot of emails just like it! From loons!
We are living in a world where a certain segment of it wants to create a reality that does not exist in order to avoid admitting that they are evil, slimy creatures from a different place.
But here's what's really galling, as Rebecca notes:
The story has been up two days, and plenty of his own commenters have pointed out to Hoft that the Netherlands emailer is not John Podesta, and certainly isn’t Hillary Clinton. Jim Hoft couldn’t care in the slightest.
His website is the 249th biggest in the United States, and he’s laughing all the way to Hell.
I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm going to quote Erick Erickson, who is quite introspective about his prior behavior and politics right now after his wife's lung cancer diagnosis and his own near-death diagnosis of blood clots in his lungs:
My faith and politics are more and more irreconcilable. What matters more to me now is to do what I think is right, not to do what is popular.
Whatever you may think of Erickson, at least he's having a moment where he sees that what he's done in the past just isn't reconcilable with a conscience.
I somehow doubt Jim Hoft will ever find a conscience, much less listen to it.
