At times during Nixon's presidency, Martha Mitchell, wife of the Attorney General, was a more popular face of the administration to Americans than Dick.

She was constantly being interviewed. The AP captured this spot back in 1973, and listening to her it appears every Republican since has adopted her caterwauling and obfuscating whenever they are in serious legal or moral trouble.

During the Jan 6 Select Committee hearings, we've heard mountains of right-wingers cry that the investigation isn't fair, is scripted, has bad ratings, is out to get Trump, and nobody cares except the liberal media.

Let's close our eyes and pretend Martha Mitchell is being interviewed by Maria Bartiromo on Fox News before tonight's prime-time hearing.

And instead of Watergate, she's talking about the Select Committee investigation of the insurrection at the US Capitol.

"The American people don't realize that these Senate hearings are not spontaneous like you and I are sitting here talking. These Senate hearings are as much rehearsed as any play on Broadway," Mitchell said.

Mitchell claimed the Senate staffers interviewed and rehearsed and rehearsed with witnesses before they testified, and then they put it on camera.

Mitchell said most of the people in America don't understand this and repeatedly reiterated that it wasn't spontaneous.

She continued, "The American people are sick and fed up with Watergate, and they don't want to hear about it anymore, and they have cut out all the programs off --- They couldn't care less."

The NY Times reported that over 20 million people tuned in on prime time, and Forbes reported, "The January 6 Hearings Are The Best Television Series Of The Summer."

"There only two cities that are keeping this thing going, plus the press, and that's Washington and New York," Mitchell whined.

East Coast elites. Where have we heard that one before?

Mitchell claimed she was reading Southern letters, and they were saying, "We're sick of the Watergate. Shut the mess up! So what!"

Sound familiar?

Trump and his suckups will be fuming after tonight. You can take that one to the bank.
