President Biden spoke at the DNC headquarters earlier today and drew a drastic contrast between the Democratic party and Republicans trying to destroy our social safety nets.

"Democrats are going to protect Social Security and Medicare. Republicans have been very clear, they've stated boldly that they want to cut Social Security and Medicare," Biden said.

"And to the point that they'll shut down the government, they say, and send the nation into default if we do not cut Social Security and Medicare," he said.

"I ain't gonna do it."

Republicans continue to attack the debt ceiling, and offer drastic cuts to the two staples of our democracy, as well as raising the age for eligibility for American seniors.

The third rail of American politics, Social Security, may go down without a bang if Republicans take over.

It's odd that the MAGA cult, many of whom are on Social Security, care for nothing outside of owning the libs, bashing the LGBTQAI community, and turning America into a Christian theocracy.

In fact, the Republicans are proposing to deny benefits to millions of Americans, all in the name of “strengthening and shoring up” those programs, as House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) described the proposals for Fox News on Oct. 16. More on that in a moment.

In interviews with Bloomberg, the four laid out their vision. Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) said the GOP’s focus on budget cutting has “got to be on entitlements.”

Now let’s examine the GOP proposals for Social Security and Medicare. According to the party’s model federal budget, they include raising the eligibility age for Social Security and Medicare to as high as 70.

This idea is both ignorant and insane. The current full retirement age for Social Security is 67, for those born in 1960 or later, but workers can start collecting as early as age 62. (They get reduced monthly benefits for life if they do so, but higher benefits for life if they wait as long as age 70.)

American life expectancy has DROPPED since Covid-19. The Republican proposals are really "work until you die."
