While Donald Trump keeps groping for a plausible excuse for hosting Nick Fuentes for a dinner at Mar-a-Lago, what should be front of mind is that no decent person would want to be within 100 feet of this character, much less break bread with him at one’s presidential residence.
My colleague, Conover Kennard, has already posted some very disturbing aspects of Fuentes’ racist fascism. But Monday night, Rachel Maddow put together a montage from Right Wing Watch that really drove the point home about who and what he is. It also speaks volumes about Donald Trump and the Republican party that hasn’t screamed from the rafters to disavow the guy.
In this case, the whole is definitely more than the sum of its parts.
After decrying the popularity of abortion, gay sex, feminism, sex out of wedlock and contraception, Fuentes declared, “That’s why we need a dictatorship.” He gave a hideous chuckle after that remark, before adding, “We need to take control of the media, we need to take control of the government and force the people to believe what we believe.”
Yes, the racism is terrible, too:
“We have one more election where white people can make the decision,” Fuentes said. He also showed he knows that Trump is one of his own kind: “The white people gotta make the right decision and then Trump’s gotta get in there and never leave. It’s time to shut up, elect Trump one more time and then stop having elections.”
Next, Fuentes described his misogynistic world view: “It looks like a society where women don’t have the right to vote. And it looks like a society where boys and girls get married as teenagers and start having kids and they don’t use birth control and they don’t use contraceptives … and it looks like women wearing veils at church and it looks like women not being in the workforce.”
Fuentes continued describing his utopia: “Banning gay marriage is back on the menu. Banning sodomy is back on the menu. Banning contraceptives is back on the menu. And, basically we’re having something like Taliban rule in America – in a good way! We’re having something like a Catholic Taliban rule in America!”
