LGBTQ+ advocate Sen. Scott Wiener said the second bomb scare at his house this year occurred not long after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Charlie Kirk tweeted homophobic lies about him.

From The Hill:

A person using the name Zamina Tataro in an email sent early Tuesday to The San Francisco Standard said bombs had been placed inside Wiener’s San Francisco home and threatened to open fire on the state senator’s Capitol office.

“Scott Wiener will die today,” the email’s subject line read, according to The San Francisco Standard.

Fortunately, no bomb was found after the police conducted an early-morning search of Wiener’s home. But it’s not hard to see a connection between far-right attacks and the threats. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that one day after Taylor Greene's Twitter account was reinstated, she smeared Wiener as a “communist groomer” - apparently because he spoke out against anti-LGBTQ rhetoric in the wake of the Club Q massacre in Colorado Springs.

Wiener has long been a target of violent threats, the Chronicle noted, including a death threat that caused the police to search his home for a bomb in June. Late last month, Kirk falsely described Wiener’s legislation protecting families of transgender youth traveling to California for gender-affirming care as protection for parents who “kidnap their children” for “gender mutilating surgeries.” Less than 24 hours later, Wiener said he received a threatening voicemail that, among other hateful accusations, said “People like you won’t be able to walk down the streets when light comes to the darkness that you’re fucking providing, you piece of s**t.”

About a week ago, the Department of Homeland Security warned about increased domestic terror threats to the LGBTQ+, Jewish and immigrant communities.
