Republicans have accused Democrats of wanting to defund the police. That irony didn't get past Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) on Wednesday since former President Donald Trump and controversial Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene have called to defund our country's top law enforcement agencies. Rep. Sporkfoot even fundraises off of it.
Swalwell turned the tables during a congressional hearing on Thursday as he pulled up an image of one of Trump's recent posts calling to defund the Department of Justice and the FBI.
"I'm disturbed about a recent tweet from the former president that says Republicans in Congress should defund the Department of Justice and the FBI," he said while holding up the image of the one-term President's post on Truth Social.
"I'm also concerned about people on this committee and their own anti-police rhetoric," he continued while holding up a copy of Greene's fundraising effort with a call to defund the FBI. "This is a defund-the-FBI campaign effort."
"Again, thousands of FBI agents work hard every day to take bad guys off the streets," he said. "In fact, after the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago, someone armed to the teeth went to an FBI field office and tried to kill FBI agents."
And this is pretty rich coming from a woman who has had several adulterous affairs. And there is zero evidence to support what Greene is accusing Swalwell of.
